Denmark 53, North Hall 44

Without leading scorer Emma Hempker in attendance, Denmark (1-4) was able to secure their first win of the season behind Hannah Lopez’s 24-point eruption. Lopez scored from all levels. She excelled at getting to her spots and changing speeds. Hannah netted three threes and got downhill consistently, able to finish with both hands. To hold off North Hall (1-4), Avery Huffman had another hot shooting night, moving her to second-place in the league with 10 made threes after drilling four more on Saturday. Zara Gosse anchored North Hall with the best performance of her young career, compiling 17 points, 13 rebounds and 2 steals, converting three And-1s as she finished with both hands inside.

Dawson County 43, Redline 42

In what could be considered the game of the year, Dawson County (6-0) rallied from down 24-10 at the half to knock off Redline (3-2) in thrilling fashion. Kindra Coker scored all 12 of her points in the second half on threes including the go-ahead bucket with under 2 minutes to play to surge ahead 43-40. Eva Bishop asserted herself in the second half using her size and physicality to score all 8 of her points. Abby Slaton reached double figures in scoring for the fourth-straight game. Redline built an early lead behind Carib Morris, who finished with 18 points and moved into the league lead in points per game. Leah Bryan had her strongest game of the season and has continued to improve as the year has gone on, sinking three threes.

Union County 30, Lanier 21

Defending league champ Union County (4-1) continues to quietly climb up the standings. Paula Robertson had another strong game, aggressively attacking the basket to draw fouls. She went 6-10 from the line while mixing in a pair of pull-up jumpers. Hope Taylor is trending in the right direction. She may be a sneaky target for small schools looking for size. Taylor keeps it simple inside, scoring on strong drop steps with a soft touch. Lara Turner’s impact was felt defensively, picking off passes and blocking shots. Speaking of blocked shots, Michelle Ezumah extended her lead atop the blocked shots leaderboard, swatting away four more, bringing her average to 3.5 per game to anchor Lanier (0-5). Asja Howell sank a pair of threes and Jordan Johnson scored all 7 of her points in the second half before leaving at the 9-minute mark to attend a showcase camp.

East Forsyth 35, Fannin County 32

Led once again by their tough-nosed defense, East Forsyth (4-1) ripped off their fourth-straight win, holding off a late surge from Fannin County (2-2) and Courtney Davis. Down 23-9 at the half, Davis scored nine of her 11 points in the second stanza to get the Rebels back in it. Reese Lewis was effective inside with 7 points, but the Broncos had too much balance to overcome. Addison Rouse went 4-4 from the line and led all scorers with 12 points including two threes. Abby Smilnak had her best game of the season, posting 4 points and 5 rebounds.

South Forsyth 34, Jefferson 31

The triumvirate of Amelia Brown, Allie Meyer and Berkley Bennett scored 8 points apiece as South Forsyth (2-3) rallied from down 25-18 at the half to beat Jefferson (2-3). Brown had all of her points in the second half including a clutch corner three. Meyer was strong on the block, patiently getting to her left hand with baseline drop steps, clearing out space with her elbows. The natural righty has a great touch with her off-hand, scoring three buckets with her left. Chloe Quinn sank a three and a mid-range jumper in the first half to keep South within striking distance. A goggle-less Emeri Billings drilled two threes and led Jefferson in scoring. Bailey Jones, ZyDiah Hunter and Delaney DeWitt all joined in with three-pointers of their own.

Athens Academy 39, Oconee County 35

Sally Swann double-doubled and exploited Oconee County’s lack of size to end Athens Academy’s three-game skid. Swann’s size and activity caused issues for Oconee County (3-2). She went 4-6 from the line, scored on a drive and found points on the offensive glass while providing impactful defense on the other end. Kendall Lawson scored three buckets in transition and netted her fifth three of the season. Sally Bullard nailed a three herself while Millie Pugmire sank a pair to pace Athens Academy (2-3). Julie Azeltine and Eliza Oechsle had 8 points apiece for the Warriors, Oechsle hitting her second and third threes of the year. Kylie Wilson returned to action and spent significant time handling the ball.
