2022 6-1 W Claire Davis – Justus League – Cass
Monday’s Game 1 performance proved to be an outlier as my second look at Davis on Tuesday stamped her legitimacy as a future D-I prospect. Lined up against three other forwards with High Major futures, Davis stole the show and dominated in a true statement game. She showcased her all-around value, posting 19 points, 13 rebounds, 3 assists, 4 steals and 3 blocks, hitting a three and going 4-4 in the process. Davis came out of the gates hot, scoring five straight points to open up her battle with the ballyhooed front court of Hoop Dreams Athletics. Davis was locked in. She knocked down jumper after jumper but didn’t settle for perimeter shots like some of her competition did. She took the ball to the basket and used her size and strength to force the issue. Davis is a playmaker from the point-forward position and truly can play every spot on the floor. In the press, she was the perfect safety valve to flash middle. She would catch and then attack the defense, pushing the ball making good decisions with when to back it out or when to dish off to open shooters. Davis used that same comfortability in the half court as she was adept at working the high post. Again, she probed the defense looking for teammates but also could turn around, take one dribble and knock down the mid-range. On defense, Davis wasn’t afraid of contact and had a physical approach to rebounding and defending. She grabbed caroms in traffic and swatted away shots of those who tried to score around the rim. Davis has swagger and confidence. She’s the complete package on the floor and holds a 3.8 GPA in the classroom. At the next level her skill set likely plays best on the perimeter. She could play either forward position and would be a major threat in 1-4 sets or against a zone as a player that can bounce both in and out of the high post. She averaged 19.6 points, 8.7 rebounds, 2 steals and 3.1 blocks as a sophomore. If Davis continues to steadily improve, she could end up being one of the most well-rounded players in the state and a major boon for whichever school lands her.
2021 5-6 SG Amaya Johnson – Justus League – Sprayberry
In Justus League’s 58-46 win over Hoop Dreams Athletics, Johnson was able to space the floor with her outside shooting and take advantage of transition opportunities. She finished with 13 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist and 1 steal. Johnson did a good job of being at the right place at the right time on defense and knocked down jumpers when open. On Monday, she scored 8 points against EOTO Black. Amaya is a reliable guard and the perfect fit at Sprayberry alongside slasher Flau’Jae Johnson and post Anna Vereen to stretch the court and open up scoring lanes for the two stars.
2022 5-10 PG Dayuna Colvin – Justus League – North Cobb
With All-State guards Azonya Austin (Alabama A&M) and Sydney Thomas (Kentucky State) headed out the door, the reins of the North Cobb program will be handed over to Dayuna Colvin. A big guard with big experience already under her belt, Colvin has learned alongside two of the program’s best and is ready to put her stamp on the Warriors. Colvin can play at multiple speeds. She can play slow and nurse the ball in half court settings or she can get out and run, able to start her own fast breaks and push the ball. Colvin is comfortable playing on and off the ball and can be moved around the perimeter to find a mismatch she can take advantage of. She does a nice job getting to the foul line and has a soft touch from the mid-range. She had 10 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals vs. Hoop Dreams Athletics. Adding a consistent three-point shot well help Colvin round out her offense. Defensively, her length gives her upside as an above average defender.
2021 5-7 PG Isabel Davenport – EOTO Black – Lumpkin County
A savvy floor general that has been making plays since Day 1 as a freshman at Lumpkin County, Isabel Davenport continued her solid play on Tuesday. On Monday against Justus League she hit two threes and finished with 6 points, 1 rebound, 2 assists and 2 steals before posting 13 points (3 threes), 2 rebounds and 2 steals in a heartbreaking loss to Team Elite Dave 45-44. When the ball is in Davenport’s hands, good things usually happen. She stays under control and can handle pressure without getting flustered. She’s a lethal three-point shooter that doesn’t need much space to fire and plays good on-ball defense. Davenport could improve on her isolation creativity when attacking the hoop, but she’s a true point guard that plays within the flow of the offense and doesn’t force much one-on-one action. The high IQ guard should have D-II schools following her every move.
2021 5-9 F Makenzie Caldwell – EOTO Black – Lumpkin County
Every team needs a grinder and glue guy. Makenzie Caldwell is that for EOTO Black and Lumpkin County. Caldwell’s impact usually goes deeper than the box score. She is as strong athlete that serves as a defensive stopper and overall dirty work doer. Caldwell gets after it with her on-ball defense and has both the footspeed and length to harass ball handlers. She consistently is earning deflections and flying around the floor. She uses her activity to help out on the glass and occasionally slash to the hoop. On Tuesday she finished with 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals.
2021 6-1 C Jada Session – Team Elite Dave – Luella
The strong physical rebounder came away with a steal at half court and a pull-up jumper with 4 seconds left to stun EOTO Black. Session isn’t a flashy player but she knows her role and excels at it. She is an enforcer in the paint that sticks her nose into rebounding opportunities and blocks shots on defense. She had 9 points, 8 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 blocks on Monday followed by 7 points, 6 rebounds, 3 steals and 4 blocks Tuesday.
2022 5-9 F Aliyah Washington – Hoop Dreams Athletics – North Paulding
The pit bull I got accustomed to watching at the CTC Fall League carried over her non-stop production to the Shutdown Showcase. She finished with 18 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals. All she does is produce, produce, produce. Washington has an uncanny nose for the ball and toughness to outmuscle opponents. While her rebounding wasn’t quite there against Team Elite Hubbard, her scoring was. She knocked down a three-pointer and went 7-9 from the line. Her patented short jumper in the lane was on full display. At some point, college coaches have to stop looking at height and potential and have to place more value on consistency, production and winning. Washington is only entering her junior season so there’s no need to sound the alarm that she doesn’t have offers piling in, but it would behoove colleges to get on her early or at least have a set of eyes on her over the next two years.
2023 5-10 W Kanija Daniel – Hoop Dreams Athletics – Carrollton
Kanija Daniel is well on her way to becoming a highly sought-after prospect. After averaging 13.8 points, 7.1 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 2.7 steals as a freshman playing in Class 5A’s toughest region, the athletic swingman showed more promise on Tuesday. Daniel has a quick first step, especially when attacking baseline. She can elevate once she gets to the rim and finish in traffic. Daniel is a strong rebounder and can ignite her own fast break once she gets the ball off the rim. On Tuesday, while her scoring wasn’t there, her playmaking was. She had 5 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals and 1 block. Developing an outside shot and working on her handle will expand Daniel’s offensive arsenal. She’s more of a slasher right now and does a good job doing so. Defensively, she has a chance to be special with the ability to guard multiple positions. She has the foot speed and wing span to trouble positions 1-5.
2025 5-6 PG Hailee Swain – Team Elite Hubbard
Playing up didn’t faze the extremely talented young guard. She showed poise and used her speed to impact the game. Swain’s advanced feel for the game was apparent with how easily she handled pressure and how she could make smart decisions and get the ball where it needed to go. She hit some pretty jumpers off the bounce and had crafty finishes. She could deliver big varsity minutes right now. Swain finished with a team-high 13 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals against Hoop Dreams Athletics.
2024 6-0 G Brooke Suttle – Team Elite Hubbard – Holy Innocents’
The next in a long line of Suttles from Holy Innocents’, Brooke has great size and a well-rounded floor game. Suttle affects the game in a multitude of ways thanks to her versatility. She proved that she could rebound, set up the offense and defend different positions. On Monday she had 7 points, 4 rebounds, 3 steals and 1 block before posting 6 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and 1 block on Tuesday.
2022 5-6 G Anna Gliatta – North Georgia Magic – North Forsyth
Gliatta was comfortable playing both on and off the ball. She torched the defense on ball rotations hitting three of the Magic’s eight threes in a 54-32 win over Team Elite Hubbard Kiki. Gliatta handled the ball well and set up the offense. She has a solid frame that can deal with defenders trying to get physical. Improving her dribble drive game when getting to the basket will help diversify her offensive attack.
2022 6-0 F Keimarya Rivera – North Georgia Magic – Cherokee
An agile post that can run the floor, Rivera has a nice future ahead. Aside from being able to beat her man down the floor, Rivera showed a good understanding of how to use her body to seal defenders and give her guards good angles for post entries. Rivera provided good effort on the glass and looks suited to be able to play in an up-tempo system. She had 6 points, 5 rebounds and 1 steal.
