Layla Brinson2028 5-4 PG Layla Brinson – Academy Elite – Grovetown
Consistency was Layla’s calling card in a 3-1 weekend. Brinson set the tone with her playmaking ability, balancing when to score and when to distribute. Layla was routinely able to slither her way to the rim with quickness and great body control to evade charge attempts. Brinson finished with scoop layups with both hands and found success with floaters. While penetrating was her greatest skill, Brinson also hurt the defense with her facilitating out of pick-and-rolls. Layla filled up the stat sheet every game and many times found steals by shooting into gaps as she played the passing lanes. Over three games, Layla averaged 8.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, 3 assists and 3.7 steals per game.

Janiyah Quiller
2028 5-4 G Janiyah Quiller – Academy Elite – Evans
Janiyah’s defense sparked her offense all weekend long. Quiller thrived in transition, living in the open floor as her quick defensive instincts resulted in steals. The southpaw loved getting downhill but also sank a few threes when open in the halfcourt. In the three games I saw, Quiller put up a robust stat line of 13.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 4 steals per game. She showed toughness when slashing through the heart of the defense and effort as a rebounder and on-ball defender.

Ellie Beck
2028 5-9 W Ellie Beck – Peak Performance ATL – Sherwood Christian
A hidden gem tucked away in the 229, Ellie was extremely impressive in a loss. Beck has good size, functional strength and agility. The tallest player on her team, Ellie handles the ball very well against pressure. She holds inside-out versatility. Beck has great hands and a nose for the ball which she puts to use when crashing the offensive glass. She finishes through contact with a power dribble when squaring her shoulders. Ellie collected 12 points, 12 rebounds and 1 assist, shooting a perfect 8-8 from the foul line in a 39-31 loss to Underrated Academy. While it may be hard to get out and see her during her high school career, Ellie is certainly one to track in the GIAA.

2028 6-0 F Emerson Reese – Redline 16U – Lumpkin County
I like EK’s upside. Her size alone catches your eye, not just her height but her strong frame as well which is even more impressive considering how young she is for her grade. Emerson is mobile. She runs the floor well and uses that same footspeed to put herself in advantageous guarding positions. Reese is effective in the paint when it comes to rebounding and finishing with both hands. Emerson posted 6 points, 10 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 steals in a win over Peak Performance before closing her weekend with 6 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals and 1 block in a 44-38 win over Academy Elite. Reese is a substantial building block for a rebuilding Lumpkin County program that is far from being void of talent.

Haley Ryczek2028 5-7 G Haley Ryczek – Redline 15U – Buford
Known for her hustle and willingness to do the little things, Haley flashed her scoring ability in a 61-24 win, filling up the box score with 15 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist and 4 steals. Haley converted two steals into transition layups. In the halfcourt, Ryczek managed to move without the ball to find open spaces in the defense and even snuck in for putbacks.

Gracen Holbrook
2028 5-7 G Gracen Holbrook – Redline 15U – East Forsyth
Every time I see Gracen, she gets bigger and better. Holbrook’s strength is becoming a weapon. She shows toughness when attacking the rim getting to her floater and when defending multiple spots. Holbrook is a reliable three-point shooter and a good decision maker. She racked up 11 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals in a blowout.

Jaucelyn Smith
2028 5-5 G Jaucelyn Smith – Only Us Legends 17U – Gainesville
Playing up in 17U, rising sophomore Jaucelyn Smith was a bright spot for the Only Us Legends. The wiry combo guard was the most consistent source of offense all weekend for the Legends. Smith scored at multiple levels, sinking five threes in three games while mixing in floaters and slashes to the rim. Her aggressiveness got her to the foul line where she shot 6-8. Smith averaged 10.3 points per game, scoring close to 37% of her team’s total points.
