Three of last week’s number one ranked teams suffered losses over Thanksgiving Break.

A new number one emerges in Class 6A as No. 1 North Paulding toppled No. 2 Newton 63-53 to take over the top spot, part of a busy week which also saw the Wolfpack hold off Class 3A No. 2 Sandy Creek in overtime 72-61 on the road. Newton quickly bounced back however, beating Class 3A-1A Private No. 2 St. Francis 73-72 at Hoops4Hunger. No. 4 Marietta climbs three spots with an 84-69 win against Class 5A No. 6 Woodward Academy. No. 5 Buford sinks three spots following a 60-40 loss to South Carolina powerhouse Westside at the Jackson EMC Tip-Off Classic. The Wolves closed their week with a 75-31 rout of Class 2A No. 1 Josey at Hoops4Hunger. No. 3 Grayson climbs three spots with a 72-27 win over Dutchtown at the Parkview Tip-Off Classic while No. 6 Archer slides a position following an 0-2 showing at the Insider Exposure Thanksgiving Classic in Florida. No. 7 Etowah survived Class 5A No. 10 Sprayberry 46-45 behind Jaiden Graham’s 23 points and 6 rebounds. No. 8 Hillgrove went 2-0 at the Insider Exposure Thanksgiving Classic, welcoming the return of Tori Thompson. No. 10 Cherokee sinks six spots with a 60-38 loss to Class 3A No. 2 Sandy Creek at Hoops4Hunger. Westlake (6-1) is the hard-luck drop out this week, beating Stephenson 59-53 and South Forsyth 55-42, but replaced in the poll by No. 9 Carrollton who went 4-0 highlighted by a 45-36 win over Class 4A No. 1 Creekside to end the Seminoles’ 35-game winning streak.

In Class 5A, No. 2 Milton went 2-0 at the Insider Exposure Thanksgiving Classic with a pair of blowouts. No. 3 New Manchester pulled away from No. 9 Lanier 62-48 at the Parkview Tip-Off Classic, Devin Furgess piling in 27 points. No. 6 Woodward Academy is down one spot after losing to Class 6A No. 4 Marietta 84-69 at the AEBL Thanksgiving Showcase. No. 10 Sprayberry hangs onto their position after a narrow 46-45 loss to Class 6A No. 7 Etowah.

Class 4A No. 1 Creekside saw their state-best 35-game winning streak come to an end, losing to Class 6A No. 9 Carrollton 45-36, but the Seminoles retain their position atop the poll. No. 3 Kell won at No. 4 North Oconee 55-51 as Maliyah Gilbert scored 14 points. No. 6 Dalton moves up a space with a 64-44 win against Wheeler at Hoops4Hunger, Aubriyana Camp double-doubling with 25 points and 10 steals. No. 9 Starr’s Mill held off Lumpkin County 44-38 at the Truett McConnell ProSports Showcase, Ava Glover netting 12 points while Lindsey Kopacek double-doubled with 11 points, 14 rebounds and 4 blocks.

There is movement in the Top 5 of Class 3A. No. 2 Sandy Creek rises a spot after a hard-fought 72-61 overtime loss to Class 6A No. 1 North Paulding and a blow out of last week’s Class 6A No. 4 Cherokee 60-38. No. 3 Monroe is up a spot with a 51-38 win against Brookwood at Hoops4Hunger while No. 4 Luella also climbs, going 2-0 at the Insider Exposure Thanksgiving Classic beating Andrew Jackson, FL 40-32 and San Jose Prep, FL 45-36. No. 5 Jenkins slips three slots with a 2-1 week against Florida competition at Insider Exposure. No. 8 Heritage-Catoosa held on at the Ridgeland Thanksgiving Classic, knocking off Class 2A No. 2 Murray County in double overtime 55-51 after holding a large double-digit lead of nearly 20 points. No. 9 Pickens lost 52-49 to Woodstock but knocked rival Gilmer (1-5) out of the Top 10 with a 42-35 victory, the Bobcats also losing 44-34 to North Cobb. No. 10 Dawson County sneaks into the Top 10 for the first time buoyed by strength of schedule, coming off a 67-38 win over Roswell at the Raider Classic.

Class 2A No. 1 Josey went 0-2 at Hoops4Hunger, losing to Class 6A foes Campbell 57-38 and last week’s No. 2 Buford 75-31. No. 2 Murray County rallied against Class 3A No. 8 Heritage-Catoosa to force double overtime at the Ridgeland Thanksgiving Classic but fell 55-51. No. 3 Columbia lost 43-30 to undefeated Athens Christian at Hoops4Hunger while No. 4 Thomson earned wins against Greenbrier 55-49 and last week’s Class A D-I No. 9 Washington County 56-47. No. 6 Morgan County lost 54-33 at St. Pius X. No. 10 Hart County sinks three spaces with a season-opening 48-46 loss to Madison County. Carver-Columbus (0-4) and Union County (2-2) exit the Top 10, the Tigers beat by Alexander 61-49 and Langston Hughes 67-34 while the Panthers ran out of gas at Class A D-I No. 4 Fannin County 66-49. No. 8 Laney enters after a 52-48 win against Greenbrier while No. 9 Sonoraville jumps into the fray following a 4-0 start, most recently beating Calhoun 66-49.

In Class A D-I, No. 1 Model slogged their way to wins against Cass 50-38 and Adairsville 49-42. No. 4 Fannin County defeated last week’s Class 2A No. 10 Union County 66-49. No. 6 Putnam County went 3-0, highlighted by a 61-46 win against Baldwin. Washington County (1-2) falls out of the poll after losing to Hancock Central 47-43 and Class 2A No. 4 Thomson 56-47. No. 10 Bremen debuts after a 3-0 showing at the Cleburne County Thanksgiving Classic.

Class A D-II saw No. 2 Washington-Wilkes get drilled at Commerce 57-29. No. 4 Taylor County knocked off Upson-Lee 34-32 while No. 6 Clinch County, up a spot, defeated Brooks County 45-43.

Class 3A-1A Private No. 2 St. Francis hangs onto their position following back-to-back losses at Hoops4Hunger, beaten by Hoover, AL 71-58 and last week’s Class 6A No. 1 Newton 73-72. No. 3 Holy Innocents’ is rounding into form, scoring a pair of wins at the Insider Exposure Thanksgiving Classic.  No. 7 Whitefield Academy went 2-0 at Insider Exposure while No. 8 Mt. Paran lost 63-42 against Pope and barely beat 0-5 North Gwinnett 44-39 at the Raider Classic to drop a spot.
