Melody Ashford2030 5-10 G Melody Ashford – Northview
Melody cracked the 20-point plateau again, this time needing every one in order to escape Cherokee 50-49 in sudden death double overtime, Ashford sinking the game-winning free throw. The freshman shot 10-11 from the foul line, hit two pull-up threes, a left-handed floater and scored on a drive to finish with 20 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals and 1 block. Melody influences both sides of the ball with great consistency. She uses her height to attack rebounds and looks to push in transition. She’s an aggressive halfcourt scorer but doesn’t force bad shots. Ashford keeps her dribble alive with her head up to find weaknesses in the defense. Melody seems like a current front runner for league MVP with Northview undefeated, tied atop the standings with Milton at 4-0.

2030 5-7 G Yosola Balogun – Northview
Yosola might not be as highly touted as Melody Ashford, but Balogun has serious talent which keeps flashing more and more consistently as the season wears on. Yosola quickly catches your eye with her athleticism and effort. She has upside to become a gnatty full court defender capable of turning ball handlers multiple times. Balogun was thrown into the fire with the assignment of guarding Ansley Dunn, gaining invaluable reps against one of the state’s best before the regular season even starts. Balogun creates offense. She does well pitching the ball ahead to the open man but she’s also extremely confident in her jump shot, pulling-up off the bounce when defenders least expect it. Yosola sank a transition three off the dribble and hit another pull-up from beyond the arc as part of her 8 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists and 1 block against Cherokee. Balogun looks like her stock could steadily rise over the course of her career.

Ansley Dunn2028 5-4 PG Ansley Dunn – Cherokee
Ansley showcased her takeover ability in spurts before Cherokee ultimately fell 50-49 in sudden death double overtime to Northview in a battle of unbeatens. Down 26-15 at the half, Dunn stepped on the gas to get the Warriors back in the game. She patiently manipulated defenders, using ball screens to set up switches to get matchups she liked as Dunn buried pull-up threes and got downhill to finish with both hands. Ansley expertly exploits angles with jabbing probes before deciding how to attack, whether hunting her own shot or creating open looks for others. Dunn finished with three threes en route to 21 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals and 1 block. She drew the assignment of guarding Melody Ashford, giving up size but using her tenacious pitbull mentality to aggressive get up under the star freshman to make her work on the perimeter. Even with the loss, Dunn’s MVP candidacy is certainly still intact.

2030 6-0 W Kynlee Polk – Cherokee
Back in from Valor Christian, Kynlee Polk will make a major impact in Year 1 in the GHSA after averaging 10.5 points, 2.7 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 4.3 steals playing varsity as an eighth grader in the GAPPS. Polk has great versatility with her length and robust skill set. She’s fluid on the wing, a catch-and-shoot threat with long strides to get to the hoop when needed. Against Northview, Kynlee drilled a pair of threes including an And-1 during the Warriors’ second half surge. Polk ran the floor for a pair of layups, scoring one with her left hand. She went 4-5 from the foul line and showed poise under pressure, converting a putback at the buzzer to force overtime. Kynlee recorded 15 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks in the 50-49 loss. Her talent and upside will draw D-I recruitment.

Ella Casing2027 5-2 PG Ella Casing – Sequoyah
In a 56-31 win over North Forsyth outscoring the Raiders 30-14 in the second half, Ella provided a major offensive spark, leading all scorers with 13 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 steals. Casing was aggressive. The smallest player on the floor was able to use her low center of gravity and quick first step to get to the rim on no-nonsense straight-line drives. Ella exploded to the basket, finishing with her left hand twice. Casing cashed in with floaters and sank a straight away three. Her downhill pressure with the threat of kicking out to multiple shooters put North Forsyth in a difficult position. The high energy hustler has earned offers from Bryan College and Piedmont and is in contact with other D-III programs.

Abigail Tinella2029 5-9 W Abigail Tinella – Sequoyah
The sophomore enjoyed a breakout performance, drilling three threes against North Forsyth as she finished with 11 points, 4 rebounds and 1 assist. Tinella is another floor spacer with size for the Chiefs. While she may not be quite as tall as Harper Cofer, she has similarities in her game with how well she shoots the ball off the catch and the physical sturdiness she possesses to be able to rebound and defend inside the arc. As Tinella earns more minutes at the varsity level and continues to broaden her game off the bounce, her sneaky nice ceiling will come into reach.

Sofia Horata2030 5-5 PG Sofia Horata – Sequoyah
Sofia is a high-end athlete who makes plays on both sides of the ball. Horata is fast, bouncy and strong for her size. She’s dynamic with how she can pressure the ball defensively and how she sees the floor as a distributor offensively. Right now, penetrating and play making are Sofia’s most effective weapons. The consistency of her outside shot is still improving but is capable of drawing out defenders to set up blow-by driving lanes. Horata’s easiest impact as a freshman could be made on defense with her speed covering ground and multiple efforts. In a 25-point win against North Forsyth, Sofia tallied 4 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals and 1 block off the bench.

Leah Bryan2028 5-11 W Leah Bryan – North Forsyth
The 3&D wing has stepped up her defense during the fall league, routinely tasked with defending opponents’ top perimeter scorers. Bryan has nice size on the wing and chops her feet well when closing out and moving laterally to keep the ball in front of her. With her reach, she contests shots effectively. Leah has a competitive mean streak which is starting to show more and more. In a loss to Sequoyah, Bryan provided 9 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist, 1 steal and 1 block, netting three threes. Leah utilizes one-dribble pull-ups to free herself from beyond the arc and the mid-range with a quick release. When she’s mixing in slashes to the basket as well, that’s when Bryan’s at her best.

Blakely Reed2031 5-7 G Blakely Reed – Lions
Blakely hustles and sticks with it extremely well. In a 54-46 win over River Ridge, Reed could be found streaking down the floor for transition layups and putbacks, cleaning up her own and others’ misses. Blakley uses her left hand very well, scoring three times including an And-1 putback to get her day started. Reed went for 18 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals, all eight of her field goals coming in the paint.

Mia Lumpkin2031 5-6 G Mia Lumpkin – Lions
The eighth grader erupted for 18 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist and 3 steals in a win against River Ridge. Lumpkin used her strength to her advantage, a physical guard with the ability to throw her weight around on the glass when needed. She drew tons of fouls against the Knights and converted at the line shooting 8-9. Mia had a left-handed layup off the tip to open the game and found success with her downhill attack, scoring on a pair of drives including an And-1.

2031 6-0 F Emily Green – Lions
The third of the 2031 triumvirate, Emily Green tacked on 8 points, 5 rebounds and 1 steal in the win. Green has an intriguing upside. She’s tall with an athletic frame and quick feet. Emily has good form on her jumper, willing to shoot from the mid-range and the three-point line without hesitation. She was effective rolling to the rim out of high ball screens and was able to get on the offensive glass to score with her left hand. Emily has the makings of a inside-out stretch forward with the agility and shooting touch to potentially play on the wing full time. Shorter has already offered.

Reagan Mulligan2028 5-3 PG Reagan Mulligan – River Ridge
Working double duty in a back-to-back Reagan posted 19 points, 1 rebound, 2 assists and 3 steals with two threes in a 38-18 win over the Titans before tallying 21 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal with three threes in a 54-46 loss to the Lions. Mulligan had her bag of tricks on full display showcasing nifty finishes with both hands in traffic, deep threes and deft floaters. Reagan’s fireworks came in front of Young Harris.

2028 5-9 W Myles Mansell – River Ridge
I really like how hard Myles plays. Listed at 5-foot-9, Mansell is a wing who loves to compete around the rim. She crashes the offensive glass extremely hard to haul down rebounds with two hands. Mansell does the dirty work and is a glue guy on offense who doesn’t need a ton of shots to stay engaged in the game. Myles keeps the ball moving and when her number is called, can score on putbacks, cuts and short drives. She converted a pair of And-1s on the day, finishing with 6 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals against the Titans before adding 5 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 1 block against the Lions.
