North Georgia Showcase

North Georgia Showcase Top Performers

Shone Webb2021 6-4 W Shone Webb – Hart County
D-I schools dropped the ball on Shone Webb. The long-armed lefty swingman was the best player at the North Georgia Showcase with his ability to do more than just score as a true two-way star. Sure, he dumped in 26 points, but he added 1 rebound, 2 assists, 3 steals and 5 blocks. Webb is the best defender in the state of Georgia. He is an elite stopper that locks up opposing teams’ best players. He took the assignment of James Madison-signee Andrew McConnell and made him look average, holding him to 9 points before fouling him out by drawing an offensive foul late in the game. Webb is an Emmanuel-commit. If he signs and stays close to home, he will be a perennial All-Conference player. If Webb played on a bigger travel team in Georgia or was at a household school in Gwinnett, Cobb or Fulton, he would be a Mid-Major prospect.  He’s a solid playmaker and uses a sharp crossover to get into the lane with good body control. He has elite defensive instincts and can snatch balls before opponents know what hit them. Webb erases shots at the rim and can guard 1-4 at the high school level. Through three games, he is averaging 28 points per game. Webb is good enough to carry the Bulldogs to another state title appearance.

Jadon Yeh2023 6-1 G Jadon Yeh – White County
For a young player, Jadon Yeh is extremely polished. He is meticulous when attacking the rim, knowing how to use angles and exploit defenders’ weaknesses. Yeh’s footwork gives him an advantage when getting downhill. Once he gets into the lane, he’s got a pretty pull-up and a variety of skillful finishes at the rim. He shined when locked up with Garrison Powell of Holy Innocents’ and produced 20 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal and 3 blocks. Yeh has a terrific future ahead of him and will be a name many colleges know.

2021 6-9 C Corey Thomas – Cherokee Bluff
Back from a broken leg, Corey Thomas needs to be back on D-I radars. Still growing into his body and with room to pack on some muscle, Thomas has the skills inside and out to dominate a game. He’s an exceptional rebounder that can high point caroms and protect the ball when he snags it. He contests every shot in his area. Thomas looks like he may be a little knock kneed, but he is very mobile and can run the floor like a gazelle, so no issue there. He showed the ability to even push the ball and start his own fast break. When anchored on the block, Thomas likes to turn to get to his right hand for baby hooks and short turnaround jumpers. He has a nice touch inside and can do damage when facing up. Corey has no problem playing above the rim and finishing through contact. Thomas’ range extends to the three-point line where he can consistently knock down open looks, but he doesn’t overly float to the perimeter like some big men do and understands that when he has a size advantage, he’s best served in the post. Thomas was unguardable against Mill Creek with 21 points, 16 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal and 6 blocks. It’s rare to find players with size, length and skill like Corey Thomas. He and Isaiah Nelson-Ododa (Winder-Barrow) are two post presences with great ceilings at the next level.

2023 6-1 G Johnathan Taylor – Mill Creek
In a 59-49 loss, Johnathan Taylor made a very good first impression. He is an athletic slasher that gets downhill in a hurry. Taylor has a quick first step that can put him at the rim in no time. He showcased some good hands on defense and earned steals and deflections throughout vs. Cherokee Bluff.  Taylor will need to add a consistent jump shot to his arsenal, but his aggressive style of play will do wonders this season. He finished with 16 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 steals. Johnathan Taylor is a name to check back in on in a few years.

Robert Reisman2021 6-2 G Robert Reisman – Gainesville
Robert Reisman had a great summer with the Atlanta Timberwolves and it carried over into the high school season on Saturday. Reisman has grown as a constant playmaker and an offensive threat that can do a little bit of everything. He tallied 21 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists, 1 steal and 1 block in an 80-75 loss to Collins Hill. He did a nice job handling the Eagles’ aggressive pressure defense and used their over eagerness to trap and go for steals against them. Reisman pushes the ball with purpose and has above average speed with the ball in his hands. He had a smoothness to his game when getting to the rim, able to unfurl finger rolls. What separates Reisman is the chip on his shoulder he plays with. Robert is a tough competitor that won’t back down to anyone. He should be high on D-II wish lists.

Brookes Kahlert2021 5-11 PG Brookes Kahlert – St. Pius X
The slick passing showtime performance of Brookes Kahlert is well worth the price of admission. He dazzled in a 69-44 win over Duluth, posting 18 points, 1 rebound, 7 assists and 4 steals.  Kahlert looked like he added muscle since I last saw him during the travel ball season. He’s got the physicality to handle on-ball defenders and can manipulate defenses to get what he wants. Aside from his sensational passing, his three-point shooting and quick instincts on defense really make him a complete point guard. He could add some more slashing scoring to his repertoire, but the Rollins College-signee is an expert when it comes to his strengths.
