Darlington 44, Union Grove White 43

With Jack Bell missing, Darlington (2-2) was able to fend off Union Grove White (0-4) getting a lift from Szymon Paluch in his debut. The Polish national scored 7 points, including five in the second half to go with his 4 rebounds. Joe Womack led Darlington with 10 points, going 5-6 from the foul line in the second half to help ice the game. The wiry lefty subtly changes speeds when attacking defenses and has a nice handle.  Asa Shepard was a crucial 3&D contributor, knocking down a pair of straight away threes to go with 3 steals and 1 block. Caleb Samples carried Union Grove with 15 points, 6 rebounds and 2 blocks. His versatility caused problems, scoring from beyond the arc and using his length and athleticism to finish at the rim. Myles Wilson made a difference with his energy, scoring 8 points. Hayden Hamilton collected 5 steals, moving him into third-place in the League at 3.2 per game.

Lithia Springs 41, Allatoona 36

The backcourt of Tayshaun Buford (12), Kisean Robinson (11) and Ziair Finch (8) combined for 31 points and 7 threes as Lithia Springs (1-3) collected their first win of the season. Buford caught fire in the second half, netting all four of his threes in the frame. Finch’s pair of triples came over the final 20 minutes as well. Robinson was the straw that stirred the drink, filling up the box score as a rebounder, facilitator and defender. Allatoona (1-3) received 15 points from Cole Smith who netted 3 threes and added 7 rebounds and 6 steals. Landen Pitts used his graceful athleticism to glide his way to 8 points and 9 rebounds.

Paulding County 54, Osborne 51

Javonne Williams was unstoppable in Paulding County’s signature win, moving the Patriots to 4-0 heading into the Labor Day break. Williams got to his spots at will, drawing foul after foul when attacking the basket. Javonne went 11-14 from the line en route to 27 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal and 1 block. Williams hit tough contested pull-ups and scored through contact at the rim. He got help from Ny’Trez Philpot and Keen-Yean James who scored 7 points apiece, Philpot also adding 12 rebounds. Osborne (2-2) trailed 26-25 at the half and found themselves down 45-37 at the 7-minute mark. Justin McCarter scored from all three levels with 3 threes on his way to 15 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists and 1 block. Kevin Hicks scored 13 points and Farrell Suber netted 8.

East Paulding 42, Marietta 39

The gritty defensive effort and white-knuckle play of East Paulding (4-0) led to yet another last-second victory as the Raiders were able to hold off Marietta (2-2) without Carter Pengelly. East Paulding led 20-19 at the half as Ja’Bryan Smith and Jaiden Mann traded buckets. Smith would finish with a game-high 15 points, 4 rebounds, 5 steals and 1 block while nailing 3 threes. Mann scored seven of his 9 points in the first half, held in check following his explosive 23 points last week. Jackson Bourgeois helped Marietta take a lead in the second half with his 7 points, but East Paulding would answer and regain the lead for good at the 3:43 mark up 38-37. The Blue Devils had a final possession to try and tie the game, but Taj Jordan ended their hope with a late steal.

Four players reached double digits for the Woodstock Hawks (2-2) in their nail-biting win over Central-Carrollton (0-4). Kalil Humphery paced the Hawks with 13 points followed by 12 apiece from Victor Julio and Stefan Jovanov. Pau Verges double-doubled with 11 points, 15 rebounds and 3 blocks. Central-Carrollton buried 7 threes. Maxx Williamson and Khaven Cochran each had 11 points while Jay Harding compiled 9 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals.

Christian Heritage (2-2) used the three-point shot to overcome a monster performance from Ethan Carter. The Lions blasted 8 threes, led by Isaac Plavich’s six. The sophomore finished with 24 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals. With Jax Abernathy sidelined, Plavich has emerged as a go-to scoring option and now ranks in the Top 5 in scoring at 15.8 points per game. Carson Simuro had a breakout performance in the backcourt with 20 points, 5 rebounds and 4 steals, netting two threes to help stretch the floor. Cash Hare posted 8 points, 16 rebounds, 7 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks and now ranks second in the League in rebounding at 11.8. Arlington Christian (0-4) rode Ethan Carter to 26 points, 13 rebounds, 2 steals and 3 blocks. The 6-foot-6 sophomore buried 6 threes. Noah Henderson did a little bit of everything with 15 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 steals and 1 block.

In a battle of unbeatens, Carrollton (4-0) used their three-headed backcourt monster to overcome Union Grove Black (3-1). The trio of Keshaun Pace (20), Eli Pippins (12) and O’Brien Watkins (10) combined for 42 points. Pace’s season-high got the Trojans off to a hot start, leading 30-18 at the half following his 12 points. Carrollton attacked the rim, going 17-34 from the foul line. Eric Garcia powered Union Grove with 14 points and 17 rebounds while Caleb Johnson netted 12 points. Nile King finished with 7 points and 7 rebounds.

Tied 21-21 at the break, Jeremiah Taylor’s 12 second half points helped keep South Paulding (4-0) unbeaten. Taylor finished with 19 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals. David Williams scored 8 points and Randy Harris netted 6. Hayden Hall was aggressive for Kennesaw Mountain (1-3), collecting 15 points and 5 assists as he went 10-11 from the foul line. Jake Whitaker recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds while Gabe Jackson pitched in 7 points.

It all came together for Alexander (1-3) in their convincing win over Marietta (1-4). Isabella Italiano had another big game, the freshman collecting 14 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Italiano is deceptively good off the dribble and brings infectious energy on defense. Nevaeh Clophus provided veteran leadership with her inside-out play, adding 9 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals. Katlin Gould and Rachel Porter scored 7 points apiece while Meghan Ritchie was effective with 6 points and 5 rebounds. Kayla Day led Marietta with 6 points and 7 rebounds. Adison Branch hit a three and blocked a pair of shots. Kyann Senior converted a baseline And-1.

River Ridge 38, Hillgrove 32

In a physical game between the League’s only two unbeaten teams, River Ridge (4-0) hit free throws late to pull away from a scrappy Hillgrove (3-1) team that never relented. The Knights went on a 4-0 run out of the break to extend their lead to 21-12, putting Hillgrove on the ropes but a pair of threes from London VanArsdale later tightened the gap to 27-20. Amaya Harris got hot in the second half, scoring eight of her team-high 12 points including a three that trimmed the lead to 35-32 with 16.2 seconds left. An intentional foul took the wind out of Hillgrove’s sails and allowed the Knights to gain separation at the foul line. River Ridge held on to win after Sophia Pearl fouled out with four minutes remaining. Mataya Gayle tallied 13 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists while Kayla Cleaveland netted 11 points. Joy Tchamabe brought a rugged presence to the interior, scoring 8 points. Aryelle King had 6 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals for Hillgrove.

The Wolfpack (3-1) got 10 points and 8 rebounds from Andrews while Jackson netted 10 points herself.  Hadara King came off the bench to add 7 points from the perimeter. Ijeoma Ozurumba scored 9 points. Marketta Adams led East Paulding with 4 points. Cora Barger grabbed 5 rebounds.

Hohl nailed 3 threes and scored 15 points in the second half. Madison Ray has climbed her way onto Top 5 leaderboards with 7 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 blocks.
