Osborne 54, Arlington Christian 51

A 10-minute delay waiting for players to arrive put Arlington Christian (0-5) in a precarious position, but the shorthanded Eagles battled, playing possibly their best game of the year with six players in a narrow loss to Osborne (3-2). Noah Henderson served as the heart and soul of Arlington Christian, the feisty playmaker using his blinding speed to breakdown defenders and get to his spots. Henderson scored 15 points and dished out 5 assists while Cameron Catholic totaled 16 points and 6 rebounds, the wing scoring from all three levels. Osborne turned to Keshawn McPherson to carry the load. Playing in his first game since Week 1, McPherson was dominant in the paint with 22 points and 7 rebounds, using his physicality to explode for baskets inside and stepping out to drill a pair of threes. Nehemiah Stowers (8) and Donovan Herron (7) combined for 15 points.

The return of Jax Abernathy was worth the wait as the star guard dumped in 26 points, 5 rebounds and 2 steals on 9-12 shooting. Abernathy scored in every way imaginable leading Christian Heritage (3-2) to another win. Dontae Crowder shined with his ability to absorb contact around the rim, scoring on drives and putbacks. Isaac Plavich extended his lead in the hunt for the three-point title, knocking down a pair to bring his season total to 15 made over five games. Cash Hare didn’t score, but he now ranks second in rebounds per game (11) and leads the League in assists per game (4) after collecting 8 rebounds and 5 assists.  Levi Gonzalez (2-3) led the Woodstock Hawks with 14 points and 6 rebounds in his first registered game. He nailed 4 threes. Victor Julio scored 13 points while Kalil Humphery paced the Hawks with 15 points and 7 rebounds.

Ziair Finch had his breakout game of the season, pumping in a game-high 19 points to lift Lithia Springs (2-3) to their second consecutive win.  Finch exploded in the second half with 17 points, nailing a pair of threes to mix in with jumpers and floaters. Kisean Robinson was steady again with 11 points and 4 rebounds. Allen Suber led a balanced Union Grove White (0-5) attack. Suber tallied 9 points followed by 8 apiece from Caleb Samples and Austin Hillsman.

A plucky Central-Carrollton (0-5) finally ran out of steam in the second half against Union Grove Black (4-1) who led just 22-18 at the break. The athleticism and size of the Wolverines eventually wore on the Lions. Tony Colley scored 12 points followed by Nile King’s 11 and Eric Garcia’s 8. Chance Whitfield did damage from the perimeter with 9 points.  Khaven Cochran’s emergence continued for the Lions, drilling 4 threes and finishing with a game-high 18 points. Isaiah West added 8 points and 4 assists in support.

East Paulding (4-1) tempted mojo and was burnt, playing their first game in their black uniforms, losing a nail-biter in sudden death overtime. Kennesaw Mountain (2-3) led 15-13 at the half as the home team on the scoreboard. Forwards Thomas McBride (13) and Jake Whitaker (11) posed problems with their activity, combining for 24 points. East Paulding received 12 points from Ja’Bryan Smith, evenly dispersed throughout the game. The Raiders led 38-36 with 18.3 seconds left in regulation and had a chance to further extend their lead but missed the front end of a one-and-one and allowed Hayden Hall to race down the floor and get fouled with 5 seconds left where he calmly sank both free throws to force overtime. In the extra period, the Raiders found themselves down two, but instead of taking a quick shot, Taj Jordan decided to wind the clock down before finding Smith for a short baseline floater at the buzzer to send the game to sudden death double overtime tied at 40. Kennesaw Mountain delivered the decisive blow when Elijah Ford created off the dribble and found Hall for a wing three to win it. Ford made big plays late as a facilitator while Hall showed his cool in crunch time with his free throws to force overtime and his shot to win it in double overtime.

Main attraction Mataya Gayle totaled 14 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals and 1 block. Sophia Pearl pitched in 11 points and 5 rebounds while Kayla Cleaveland put up 7 points, 5 rebounds and 2 blocks. Marina Sippola rose to the occasion for North Paulding, finishing with 13 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and 1 block. She impressed with her all-around floor game and balanced scoring. Sippola is a high energy player with a strong final two seasons ahead.  Ava Andrews posted 8 points, 7 rebounds and 2 steals.
