Huey Blalock2026 5-9 PG Huey Blalock – Rabun County
With football players missing, Huey Blalock continued to stamp Rabun County as his team. The super sophomore dazzled in an 80-59 blow out of Towns County, bursting open a 32-27 halftime lead into a 64-43 advantage heading into the fourth after combining with Reed Burrell for 29 points in the stanza. Blalock poured in seven threes, erupting for 35 points, 1 rebound, 3 assists and 3 steals. Though undersized, Huey plays with immense confidence and emotion. He’s a high-energy creative playmaker. Blalock wraps around flashy behind the back passes and is a skillful drive-and-kick distributor that looks to get the ball to his shooters. Blalock provided offense of his own inside the arc, finishing with his left hand, scoring on three transition buckets, netting a floater, converting a putback and hitting a one-dribble pull-up. Huey does a good job using his body to shield the ball from shot blockers on his drives. Expect Blalock to be a frontrunner for Region 8 A D-I Player of the Year as the high-octane Wildcats seem like a logical favorite to win the region title once at full strength.

2027 6-0 G Reed Burrell – Rabun County
Part of a healthy pipeline that will continue to pump out young impact players through at least 2029, Reed Burrell is the latest freshman difference maker. Blessed with a compact stroke, Reed is a dangerous perimeter scorer that can put up points in a flash. He exploded for 13 points in the third quarter to bury Towns County, scoring from all three levels using a floater, a mid-range jumper, a three, two buckets in transition and netting a pair of free throws. In total, Burrell finished with 15 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 steal and 1 block.

2024 6-2 G Brentis Schaeffer – Langston Hughes
I loved what I saw from Brentis Schaeffer in Langston Hughes’ commanding 58-37 win over River Ridge. The wiry southpaw sprung the Panthers to an early 11-0 lead that was never in question. Brentis was in complete control throughout the night, getting to wherever he wanted to go with ease. Schaeffer used a burst of speed downhill to slice to the basket and elevate for above the rim finishes. Brentis scored in a variety of ways from inside the arc, dropping in two floaters, converting three times in transition including a dunk off a steal, showed the ability to drive baseline and finish through contact and also peppered in a pull-up jumper. In total, Schaeffer poured in 20 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals and 1 block in three quarters of work. The high academic 30 ACT 3.7 GPA student holds offers from Maryville, Gordon State, Pfieffer and Albany State.

2026 5-10 PG Addison Dyer – Langston Hughes
In a game that quickly got out of hand, Addison Dyer had some impressive moments as a promising young playmaker. The sophomore sank a pair of threes, but it was everything else that stood out. Dyer has a well-rounded floor game. He plays with pace and sees the court, able to squeeze in assists through tight spaces. Addison rotates down to rebound and in turn ignites transition opportunities. Dyer finished with 6 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals.
