Walton/Jefferson Team Camp Top Performers

Jacalyn Myrthil2025 5-5 PG Jacalyn Myrthil – Mt. Paran
It’s not often you see the defensive tenacity Jacalyn Myrthil brings to the table. Only a rising freshman, Myrthil has a chance to be special. She’s an absolute pitbull, picking up the length of the floor and harassing ball handlers to no end. Jacalyn has great speed with a smooth handle. She can make plays off the dribble for herself and others. Myrthil had 9 points, 1 rebound, 3 assists and 2 steals. She scored on a pull-up off the dribble, a eurostep floater and a three-pointer. The backcourt of Myrthil and Katelyn Dunning may be small, but they will be a nightmare to deal with due to their quickness and scrappiness.

Jessica Fields2025 6-0 F Jessica Fields – Mt. Paran
Mt. Paran will look like a completely different team this upcoming season. After falling short in the Sweet 16, Coach Stephanie Dunn returns nearly everybody and has help on the way with an impressive freshmen class. Jessica Fields will make an immediate impact. Already with an Ole Miss offer in hand before even playing a varsity game, Fields has the makings of becoming a blue-chip prospect. She has outstanding length that allows her to get to every rebound in her area, battling through traffic. The wiry forward may not look overly strong, but she converts through contact with relative ease with either hand. Fields has good instincts on defense. She alters shots and earns deflections and steals. Jessica is a threat on offense with her ability to clean up misses and her quick feet when attacking from the high post. Fields posted 17 points, 4 rebounds, 5 steals and 1 block in a 58-19 win over Walton.

2022 6-0 W Kara Dunn – Mt. Paran
The reigning Class A-Private Player of the Year makes everything look easy. She’s never rushed and always does what she wants on the floor. Dunn had a smooth and efficient 11 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 steal. She scored on a pair of And-1’s, a putback and a corner three. Dunn’s ability to pass makes everyone around her better. Expect the four-star swingman to rack up the assists on high-low feeds to Jessica Fields and Kaylynn Kirklen this season.

Gracie Deetz2022 6-0 F Gracie Deetz – Rabun County
In Class 2A, size and length are a key factor, many times rare to find. Gracie Deetz has both, coupled with a versatile skill set. At 6-foot, Deetz is capable of playing inside and out. She is long combo-forward that can play some on the wing and has a finesse game on the low block. She likes to get to her turnaround jumper in the post and can stretch the floor from the mid-range. Deetz had 14 points and 1 block in a 62-20 win over North Murray.

Lucy Hood2024 5-9 PG Lucy Hood – Rabun County
The Class 2A Freshman of the Year was sharp on Wednesday. Hood looked a little taller, pushing 5-foot-9 and of course, as agile as ever. She’s a confident ball handler that can drive and kick. She finished with 11 points, 1 assist and 3 steals as her three-point shot was locked in, burying three deep balls.

Ellie Southards2024 5-8 G Ellie Southards – Rabun County
Ellie Southards can play all over the floor with her strength and skill set. She finished with 14 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 4 steals and 1 block.  Southards scores at all three levels. She’s tough enough to score in the paint able to finish through contact. Ellie is a very good three-point shooter that has a 3&D vibe to her, a physical on-ball defender that can guard multiple spots.

2022 5-7 G Sophie Woodard – Rabun County
Before rolling her ankle, Sophie Woodard was the straw that stirred the drink. She made hockey assists to help set up scoring chances and played with energy. Woodard is a dangerous jump shooter. She hit two mid-range pull-ups and sank two threes en route to finishing with 12 points. Even when on the bench, Woodard served as a vocal leader that helped keep the team loose.

Jillian Bretz2022 5-10 SG Jillian Bretz – Forsyth Central
With a large 2021 class graduated, Jillian Bretz will have a heavy scoring burden to shoulder – she is more than capable of carrying the load. Bretz is a talented scorer that excels in transition. Jillian does a great job weaving through traffic and going coast-to-coast where she finishes with difficult scoop layups and kisses off the glass. When Bretz is at her best, she is capable of scoring at all three levels with an accurate jump shot. Improving her lateral quickness on defense will help her at the next level, but when she gets downhill on offense, she has no issue getting to the hoop. Bretz shines as a playmaker as well. She can deliver bounce passes off the dribble to open teammates. Jillian stuffed the stat sheet with 18 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals and 1 block in a loss to Sequoyah, scoring nearly half of her team’s 38 points.

2022 5-10 C Tafton Barber – Sequoyah
I’ve been calling for a larger role in the offense for years when it comes to Tafton Barber and it looks like her time is here. Barber was great in a 45-38 win, posting 11 points and 8 rebounds. She’s a powerful post presence that eats up space and can physically dominate opponents. Her seal and power dribble both push defenders underneath the basket, making it easy for her to score up close.

Susanna Rogers2022 5-9 PG Susanna Rogers – Sequoyah
The crafty long-armed playmaker found her offense in the second half, scoring nine of her 11 points after halftime while also finishing with 3 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 steals.  Rogers is a high IQ guard that sets the table as well as anyone. Her pocket passing is impressive. Rogers has great length and can help out in a variety of ways. Over the course of her career, she’s proven to be a solid rebounder and an active defender that can get in passing lanes and knock away steals. Rogers found her offense on drives to the basket and the mid-range.

Ashlynn Bleisath2025 6-1 F Ashlynn Bleisath – Creekview
A highly touted frontline is coming to Creekview in the 2025 class. Ashlynn Bleisath may be a unicorn. At 6-foot-1, Bleisath has the size of a post but the scoring touch of a guard. She shot lights out, hitting 4 threes on her way to netting 18 points. Bleisath spends the majority of her time on the perimeter and can shoot over contests. She has some ball skills as well, able to go coast-to-coast in transition. Once Bleisath is able to fully mix in post play with her outside shooting skills, she will be a handful to stop. She projects as a high ceiling stretch-four.

2025 6-3 C Amilya Taft – Creekview
What first stood out about Amilya Taft other than her great size was her outstanding hands. Taft caught some extremely difficult post feeds on high-low looks and used her soft paws to gather the ball and score inside. Taft was effective as a rebounder and shot blocker, totaling 7 points, 4 rebounds 1 steal and 2 blocks in a 46-25 win over Etowah. Creekview has reason to be excited with their twin tower freshmen who have their own unique skill sets.

2024 6-0 C Becca Newman – Etowah
Becca Newman was a bright spot for Etowah. She played a physical brand of basketball in the paint and was able to fight for rebounds and score through defenders. Newman looks much more comfortable and aggressive in the low post from when I saw her last month.
