With Thanksgiving Week upon us, tournaments across Georgia and out of state will pit Top 10 teams against one another, meaning there will be plenty of movement in the polls in the coming days.

In a tight-knit Class 7A, you have to win to stay in. Defending state champion Marietta (0-1) was unable to do so in their 51-46 loss to Class 5A No. 5 Warner Robins at the HypeSouth Hardwood Invitational. Makayah Harris led the Blue Devils in scoring with 15 points, but last March’s hero Chloe Sterling was held to 2 points, but did rack up 10 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals. While by no means was Warner Robins a bad loss, it is currently the “worst” loss out of any team in the Top 10. No. 1 Campbell stood tall and proved why they are ranked atop the classification, holding off No. 3 Archer 48-42 at Carrollton’s Girls Night Out. Habitual producer Laila Battle got the job done again, pouring in 25 points and 5 steals. Even with the loss, Archer rises one spot in the rankings thanks to their earlier 67-57 win at No. 7 South Forsyth. Taniya McGowan was the difference, finishing with 21 points and 8 rebounds. As stated in the Preseason Poll, No. 2 Brookwood could climb quickly and now the Broncos already find themselves nipping at the heels of Campbell. The Broncos picked up a pair of Top 10 wins, beating Class A-Private No. 5 Wesleyan 63-57 on the road and edging Class 6A No. 9 Rockdale County 55-51. Diana Collins posted 29 points and 9 rebounds against the Wolves before tallying 32 points, 6 rebounds, 5 steals and 2 blocks vs. the Bulldogs. No. 4 Grayson is up two spots after a pair of blowout wins over Shiloh (69-10) and Discovery (75-47). No. 5 Cherokee slides two places with a 61-59 loss to Class 6A No. 4 River Ridge, down as many as 17 points in the third quarter before storming back. Sophomore Toni Warren had 21 points and 10 rebounds in the loss. No. 8 Woodstock got 21 points from Central Michigan-signee Bridget Utberg and 19 from Karson Martin in their 58-51 win over North Paulding at the Wolverine Classic. Entering the poll for the first time is No. 10 West Forsyth. The Wolverines kicked off their season with a bang, beating Class 5A No. 4 Greenbrier 45-39 at the Sandy’s Spiel Tip-Off Classic last Saturday, leading by 23 heading into the fourth. First-Year Head Coach Mallory Ranfos’ team kept their momentum in Week 2, scoring wins against Mill Creek 59-25 and Banks County 59-46 at the Roger Slaton Memorial Holiday Classic. Tennessee Tech-signee Cayla Cowart recorded 18 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 7 steals in West Forsyth’s season-opener.

It’s extremely early, but no one has a better resume in Class 6A than No. 4 River Ridge, who still waits for a loss or an unimpressive result from the three teams ahead of them so they can climb the rankings. The Knights handled Class 7A No. 5 Cherokee with relative ease for the first 25 minutes of the game, leading by 17 points in the third quarter before clinging on to a 61-59 win. Mataya Gayle put on another show, racking up 15 points, 5 rebounds, 8 assists and 3 steals. Freshmen Kayla Cleaveland and Sophia Pearl continue to elevate River Ridge into the discussion as being a legit state title contender. The 5-foot-11 Cleaveland scored 15 points and grabbed 5 rebounds while Pearl finished with 11 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals. Above River Ridge, No. 1 Kell got back on track with a season-opening 68-39 win over a rebuilding Southwest DeKalb. No. 2 Lovejoy showed no mercy in a 100-9 win at North Clayton while No. 3 Buford dissected Lithia Springs at the Jackson EMC Tip-Off 72-40, Kirby Wallis (20), Ava Grace Watson (17) and Tamori Plantin (13) combining for 50 points. No. 5 Carrollton blasted Class 5A No. 8 Maynard Jackson 71-43 at Girls Night Out, Western Carolina-signee Kehinde Obasuyi collecting 18 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals. No. 6 Sequoyah is up a spot after beating Rome 59-40 at the Raider Classic, Elle Blatchford posting 15 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 steals.

In Class 5A, UGA-signee Sydney Bowles exploded in No. 1 Woodward Academy’s season-opening 77-67 win against No. 9 New Manchester at the Parkview Tip-Off Classic. Bowles poured in 40 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals while New Manchester received 13 points and 13 rebounds from Auburn-signee Kharyssa Richardson. No. 2 Forest Park slipped by Harrison 66-60 at the Parkview Tip-Off Classic. Sophomore Yasmine Allen scored 27 points to lead the comeback, the Panthers down 47-31 at the half before holding Harrison to 13 second half points. No. 5 Warner Robins lost 46-40 at Houston County but earned wins over Jones County (44-39) and last week’s Class 7A No. 2 Marietta 51-46 at the HypeSouth Hardwood Invitational, moving the Demonettes up two spots. Jada Morgan double-doubled with 17 points, 10 rebounds and 3 assists against Marietta while Tasia Agee netted 16 points. No. 6 St. Pius X fell 51-42 at Class A-Private No. 2 Holy Innocents’ while No. 7 McIntosh polished off a 3-0 week highlighted by their 45-37 win over Union Grove.

Class 4A had an interesting week. No. 1 Luella survived No. 3 Baldwin 55-54 as Ariana Dyson posted 17 points and 8 rebounds to combat 6-foot-3 freshman Janaye Walker’s 19 points and 18 rebounds. The Bravettes are up three spots after outlasting Northside-Warner Robins at the HypeSouth Hardwood Invitational 51-49, freshman Kassidy Neal finishing with 13 points and 15 rebounds including the game-winning jumper at the buzzer. No. 7 Arabia Mountain sinks four places following their 67-57 loss at Union Grove. No. 5 Carver-Columbus is down one spot after a tough 57-50 defeat to Class A-Private No. 3 St. Francis. Ashlyn Mesidor led the Tigers with 12 points. No. 6 Marist notched a 48-44 double overtime win against Class A-Private No. 7 Trinity Christian.

Drama is afoot in Class 3A. No. 1 Lumpkin County blitzed Flowery Branch 52-31 and Morgan County 65-22 heading into today’s showdown with Class 6A No. 3 Buford, but the Indians will be a rudderless ship with the shocking resignation of Coach David Dowse who built the program up from nearly scratch. Unfortunately, distractions will be aplenty the rest of the season for a team that is favored to win the state title. For those involved, you don’t know how good you have it until it’s gone. No. 2 GAC made a statement with a 57-55 win over Class A-Private No. 4 Galloway behind Xavier-signee Kaleigh Addie’s 18 points and Jaci Bolden’s 14. No. 3 Pierce County climbs three spots with a 50-42 win over Glynn Academy at the Hugh McBride Classic. No. 7 Westminster drops four spots after losing 69-43 at Class A-Private No. 6 Hebron Christian, the Wildcats still awaiting the return of recent Stanford-commit Courtney Ogden. Maci Shelnut scored 10 points in No. 5 White County’s 54-44 win vs. Tallulah Falls. No. 6 Cross Creek took down Class 2A No. 2 Josey 41-34 on the road, Michaela Bogans scoring 15 points including the final 10 to ice the game. No. 8 Sumter County is down three places with a 54-41 loss to Lee County while No. 9 Redan holds on tight after a 48-40 loss to Class 2A No. 5 Washington County at the HypeSouth Hardwood Invitational, Jayla Cook recording 15 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals and 2 blocks.

No. 1 Elbert County has shown no ill-effects of having the target on their back in Class 2A. The Blue Devils romped Heritage-Conyers 63-31 and Thomson 70-43. Niya Moon (22), Aaniyah Allen (17) and Terrace Hester (14) carried the load against the Bulldogs. No. 2 Josey lost 41-34 to Class 3A No. 6 Cross Creek. No. 7 Lamar County sinks two spots following a brawl in their game against Spalding which led to a forfeit against Houston County. No. 5 Washington County beat Class 3A No. 9 Redan 48-40 at the HypeSouth Hardwood Invitational. Alabama State-signee Ashley Gray hung 23 points, 9 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 blocks in the win. No. 8 Heard County earned wins over Newnan (63-28) and Starr’s Mill (53-34) while No. 10 Woodville-Tompkins held their own against bigger schools but still lost, slipping three spots after losing 45-35 at Richmond Hill and 56-53 to Woodland-Stockbridge at the Sweet South Classic.

Class A-Private is getting tight but No. 1 Mt. Paran has held up their end of the bargain, beating Class 6A No. 9 Rockdale County 57-41 at Girls Night Out. Georgia Tech-signee Kara Dunn finished with 25 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 blocks. No. 2 Holy Innocents’ is up two spots after beating Class 5A No. 6 St. Pius X 51-42 and Flowery Branch 75-38. No. 3 St. Francis beat Class 4A No. 5 Carver-Columbus 57-50 on the road at the GWC Tip-Off Classic. No. 4 Galloway slides two spots after a 57-55 loss at Class 3A No. 2 GAC. The Scots bounced back but not in resounding fashion, beating Collins Hill 56-48 at the Parkview Tip-Off Classic. No. 5 Wesleyan dropped 63-57 to Class 7A No. 2 Brookwood but retains their spot. No. 6 Hebron Christian got 14 points and 10 rebounds from Wofford-signee Jessie Parish in their 69-43 win against Class 3A No. 7 Westminster. No. 7 Trinity Christian suffered a pair of losses, 48-44 in double overtime to Class 4A No. 6 Marist and 47-43 to Denmark. Athens Academy (1-1) is out after a 48-41 loss at Oconee County. In is Region 8 foe No. 10 Prince Avenue who won 56-51 against Brookstone and beat Madison County 46-39.

No. 1 Montgomery County takes over the poll in Class A-Public after beating Ware County 50-44. Makayla Bell had 23 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals while Marley Bell chipped in 14 points, 12 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals. No. 2 Mt. Zion-Carrollton was hammered by North Cobb at the Patriots Hoopsgiving Classic 71-29 after beating Haralson County 50-34. No. 3 Claxton is up one position thanks to a 61-47 win at Long County. No. 5 Lake Oconee Academy picked up wins over Stratford Academy (42-37) and Westminster Christian Academy (66-29). No. 7 Trion dispatched of Unity Christian 57-29 while No. 8 Commerce fell 49-38 to Cherokee Bluff.
