Class 7A No. 1 Westlake saw its 54-game winning streak snapped at the Art Turner Memorial, losing to host Paul VI, VA 67-58. The Lions retain their hold of the top spot however.

No. 3 Cherokee scored big wins over No. 6 North Cobb 51-43 in overtime, Class 6A No. 10 Creekview (50-43) and South Forsyth (71-46). No. 4 North Forsyth stayed hot, beating Class 3A No. 2 Jefferson 53-41 and Lanier 48-36, getting 17 points from Caroline Martin. No. 7 Pebblebrook is up one spot after surviving No. 10 Campbell in overtime 44-43. The Spartans bounced back after the tough loss and beat Marietta 48-46 to stay in the rankings. No. 9 Roswell tumbles four spots following a 46-42 overtime loss to Forsyth Central.

In Class 6A, No. 3 Glynn Academy took care of Class 5A No. 6 Statesboro 49-35 on the road. The Red Terrors have a massive game this Friday as they host No. 5 Valdosta, who picked up a pair of wins over Tift County (55-51) and Lowndes (61-47). No. 8 Grovetown sinks two spots after a 58-57 loss at Class 2A No. 9 Butler. No. 10 Creekview falls three positions after losses to returnee No. 9 Harrison (47-34) and Class 7A No. 3 Cherokee (50-43). Making way for the Hoyas is Richmond Hill (7-2), who departs following a 50-38 loss at Statesboro.

Region 7 has five teams with legitimate arguments to be in the Class 5A Top 10, but just three represent the grouping. The cannibalism has begun as No. 2 Villa Rica defeated No. 3 Carrollton 49-43. The Wildcats however, ended their week with an upset loss at Hiram, 50-47 while the Trojans quickly got back on track with wins over Hiram (58-36) and Paulding County (98-11). The next two weeks will tell a lot about young No. 7 Kell. Hiram, Villa Rica and Carrollton all loom. Outside of Region 7, Jones County (7-1) was a Region 4 casualty, replaced by No. 10 Eagle’s Landing after the Eagles won 60-56.

Storylines are changing in Class 4A. No. 5 Woodward Academy blasted No. 8 Druid Hills 69-34 behind Sydney Bowles’ 30 points, 21 rebounds, 3 assists and 5 steals. Druid Hills will go down as one of this year’s biggest “What-if” teams. Leading scorer and rebounder Jayla Thompson transferred over Thanksgiving Break to Tri-Cities, zapping Coach Ro Rice of one of his toughest players. Star sophomore Kyia Craft will be asked to push the Red Devils through adversity. Out of the poll is Flowery Branch (5-4). The Falcons lost 60-55 at Class 3A No. 5 Dawson County. They are replaced by debutant No. 10 St. Pius X. The undefeated Golden Lions are off to their best start since 2014. They won at Class 3A No. 4 GAC 40-31 to clinch their spot in the poll.

The bottom of Class 3A is turning into a spin cycle as new teams are breaking through while others shuffle up and down the poll. No. 4 GAC sits at 3-7 but their win over No. 5 Dawson County 54-47 proves they are still the team to beat in Region 7. The Spartans have played the toughest schedule in the state in Class 3A and if they continue to take care of business against other 3A opponents, its hard to drop them any further in the poll.  No. 6 Lumpkin County had a chance to climb, but instead falls a spot following a 46-43 loss to East Hall. Joining GAC, Dawson County, Lumpkin County and No. 9 Fannin County as the fifth team from the juggernaut Region 7 is No. 8 North Hall, who beat Fannin County 50-36 behind Lauren Swanson’s 12 points and 10 rebounds. Out of the rankings are Region 6ers Sonoraville (4-3) and Ringgold (3-3). The Phoenix beat Darlington 65-43 but were crushed by Ringgold 66-30. The Tigers couldn’t keep the momentum however and were trounced themselves by No. 7 Coahulla Creek, who enters the Top 10 after a 53-29 win at Ringgold. In middle Georgia, Rutland (2-2) exits following a 69-59 loss at Jackson. No. 10 Cedar Grove creeps into the poll after wins over Westminster (57-52) and Pace Academy (36-32). Sophomore Rickayla Johnson is making a case for region player of the year, averaging over 20 points per game.

It was the same old song and dance in Class 2A as No. 10 Josey lost for a 32nd straight time to No. 2 Laney 55-44. Cracking the Top 10 from Region 4 is No. 9 Butler who upset Class 6A No. 8 Grovetown 58-57. Outside of the CSRA, No. 7 Southwest-Macon continues to roll. Four players average double figures in senior Ja’Khyla Johnson (15 ppg, 4.9 rpg, 3.7 apg, 5.9 spg), 6-foot senior Avrie Grayer (12.4 ppg, 7.6 rpg, 2.6 bpg), senior I’Vraneik Williams (11.4 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 3 apg, 3.1 spg) and junior Stangious Alford (11.3 ppg, 7.9 rpg, 3.3 spg, 1.4 bpg).

No. 2 Hebron Christian continues to take no prisoners in Class A-Private, annihilating No. 7 Trinity Christian 71-27 after the Trinity Christian had knocked ELCA (4-2) from the Top 10 following a 68-47 drubbing. No. 1 St. Francis overpowered Lakeview Academy 81-42 while No. 4 Wesleyan handled Class 3A No. 4 GAC 59-44. No. 8 Calvary Day sinks two spots after losing to Hilton Head Christian Academy, SC 48-37 before edging Class A-Public No. 2 Wheeler County 53-48. Reappearing in the rankings is No. 10 Greenforest. The Eagles beat Class 7A Central Gwinnett 72-34.

Class A-Public has been lacking results but Wilcox County (0-1) and Pelham (0-0) both drop out to make way for No. 9 Macon County and No. 10 Montgomery County. The Bulldogs earned wins over Hawkinsville (54-12) and Brookstone (51-39) while the Eagles took down Telfair County 58-55 and are off to a 7-0 start.
