West Georgia Showcase

West Georgia Showcase: New Names

2021 6-3 W Gilbert Croley Jr. – East Coweta
Gilbert Croley had a terrific weekend, starting off at HoopSeen’s Elite Preview camp and then finishing strong at the West Georgia Showcase. Croley can always be counted on for effort. He’s been a glue guy in years past but looks ready to take the leap as a scorer and defender. Croley is at his best when he’s attacking the basket. He had some strong takes to the hoop and even showed an improved mid-range shot. Croley will eventually need to expand his range to the three-point line at the next level. On defense, Croley has good length and is active. He helps defends multiple positions and finds himself in the right spot often. He went for 25 points, 10 rebounds, 1 steal and 3 blocks in his first game at the West Georgia Showcase. Small schools may want to put Croley on their radar as a legitimate option.

2021 6-2 SG Spencer Hallead – East Paulding
A seldom used bench player a season ago, Spencer Hallead was a revelation at camp with his quick trigger. The good-sized guard fired away from deep every time he had an inch of space. Hallead has a pretty stroke and was able to find the bottom of the net thrice and shot the ball well from the mid-range as well. He put up 15 points, 1 rebound and 3 steals in Game 1 at camp. Hallead will need to work on ball handling, getting to the basket and shot selection, but he’s a confident shooter that can stretch the floor for teammates.

2021 6-2 PG Jamisen Winters – Chapel Hill
Jamisen Winters has impressed each and every time I’ve seen him over the summer. He’s a big guard that plays with pace and purpose. Winters likes to attack the rim with a euro step and can draw fouls while doing so. His strength gives him an advantage at the point guard spot, able to use his physicality to get past defenders and defend at a high rate himself. He has a solid all-around floor game and can contribute in a multitude of ways this upcoming season as he takes over for transfer Micah Bell. He posted 13 points, 10 rebounds and 1 assist in his first game at camp.

2021 5-11 CG Nate Jones – Carrollton
The best shooter in the gym, Nate Jones was lights out from deep. He buried 6 threes to open the day, going for 26 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. The athletic lefty was near automatic when he got his feet set. Even with his three-point shot locked in, Jones still provided effort as a passer and rebounder. With his leaping ability, Jones plays bigger than his size. He’s mainly been a specialist over the course of his career, but Jones has loads of big game experience and has started to impact games in more ways than just with his three-point shooting.

2021 6-4 W Javon Brown – LaGrange
Javon Brown provided excitement with his vertical leap. Brown has big bounce and can explode to the rim. He had a monster poster dunk on the break and showed the ability to come from the weakside and swat away shots. He’s got active hands defensively and can swipe away steals. He put up 14 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists in his first game of the day.

2021 6-5 W Xavier Adams – Central-Carrollton
Playing in his home gym, Xavier Adams found the range in the second half of his opening game. The sizable wing drilled 3 of his 4 threes in the frame and finished the game with 14 points, 3 rebounds and 1 assist. Adams is a quality shooter from distance for his size. He showed the ability to drive the ball from time to time and can finish in traffic with his length. He’s not an elite athlete, but he’s got enough quickness to beat his man when needed and can help defend multiple spots. He has the tools to be a solid contributor at the next level.
