Two weeks into the season, the number one spot in multiple classifications has been up for grabs. Two top ranked teams fell this week but maintain their position due to a myriad of reasons. Carrollton’s Girls Night Out gave us a great gauge as to where teams are early in the year.

The top of Class 6A is getting tight as the top two teams are now a combined 0-3, albeit against elite competition. No. 1 Carrollton fell at home at Girls Night Out against Class 5A No. 1 River Ridge 59-44. No. 2 Norcross held their own but fell short against Private No. 1 Hebron Christian 58-42. No. 3 North Forsyth is getting dangerously close to leap frogging both teams. The Raiders secured their second win over a Class 6A Top 10 opponent, blowing out last week’s No. 9 Archer 64-31 to drop the Tigers (1-1) from the poll. No. 4 North Paulding edged Class 2A No. 2 Hardaway 56-48 at Girls Night Out. No. 5 Cherokee had a busy week with a trifecta of nice wins, beating Woodstock (67-48), Class 5A No. 10 Sequoyah (64-51) and Alexander (72-56), Madison Moody averaging 21.7 points per game over the span. Lambert (2-1) falls out of the Top 10 after losing 73-64 at Walton, but rebounding with a 63-45 win at Dawson County in the 400 Showdown. Into the poll is No. 9 Campbell fresh off a 62-42 win against last week’s Class 4A No. 9 Cartersville, Saniya Binion and last-second transfer freshman Gabby Parish from New Manchester recording 15 points and 9 rebounds each. No. 10 Grayson breaks into the rankings after routing Chapel Hill 80-24 and playing Cherokee close last week. Newly minted Jacksonville-commit Tatum Brown is averaging 26.5 points through two games.

It was a banner week in Class 5A as No. 1 River Ridge defeated Private No. 5 Galloway 74-58 and Class 6A No. 1 Carrollton 59-44 both on the road, Georgia Southern-signee Kayla Cleaveland averaging 22 points per game. No. 2 Langston Hughes toppled last week’s Private No. 2 Holy Innocents’ 62-55. West Georgia-signee and Class 5A Player of the Year candidate Parris Parham opened her senior season with 26 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists and 7 steals in No. 6 Bradwell Institute’s 74-16 win at Liberty County. No. 8 New Manchester moves up a spot with a 59-47 win against last week’s Class 4A No. 7 Harris County at Girls Night Out, Clark Atlanta-signee Kyara Lawrence with 19 points and 9 rebounds followed by Devin Furgess’ 17 points. No. 9 Tri-Cities slips a spot with a 69-36 loss at Class 4A No. 1 Marist while No. 10 Sequoyah holds tight following a 64-51 loss to Class 6A No. 5 Cherokee.

Class 4A No. 1 Marist rolled by last week’s Class 5A No. 8 Tri-Cities 69-36. No. 5 Dalton saw Aubriyana Camp make her GHSA debut at Girls Night Out, leading the Catamounts to a 63-19 win over McEachern while providing 32 points, 5 assists and 6 steals. No. 6 North Oconee picked up a win at the Sandy’s Spiel Tip-Off Classic without Kendall Wells, beating a shorthanded Cherokee Bluff 51-34 as freshman Leah Pollack recorded 17 points, 9 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals and 1 block while Laura Frances Willis added 15 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists and 1 steal. No. 7 Kell rises a spot with a 76-42 win against Mill Creek, Kennedy Deese with 25 points, 10 rebounds and 2 blocks. No. 8 Warner Robins moves up two positions following a 54-38 win against Veterans. Harris County (0-1) and Cartersville (0-1) drop out of the poll after losses at Girls Night Out, the Tigers losing 59-47 to Class 5A No. 8 New Manchester and the Purple Hurricanes defeated 62-42 by Class 6A No. 9 Campbell. No. 9 Southwest DeKalb debuts following a 61-42 win against Arabia Mountain while No. 10 Ware County slides in with a 46-42 triumph over Tift County.

Class 3A No. 2 Fayette County got back on track at Girls Night Out, cruising past Class 2A No. 6 Carver-Columbus 60-34. No. 5 Pickens beat Rome at the Wood Elite Tip-Off Classic 50-44 while No. 6 Oconee County pulled away late from Jackson County 72-55, Emmanuel-signee Julie Azeltine with 21 points before hurting her ankle. No. 9 Sandy Creek rises a place with a 54-41 victory at Starr’s Mill. No. 10 Monroe is down after a 62-47 loss to Class 2A No. 5 Butler.

There is no change to the Class 2A Top 10. No. 1 Josey eked out a 43-39 win over Grovetown at the Evans Girls Only! Tip-Off Classic. No. 2 Hardway fell to Class 6A No. 4 North Paulding 56-48 at Girls Night Out, New Orleans-signee Mikayla Johnson with 20 points and 13 rebounds while Rhianna Boynton added 12 points and 10 rebounds. No. 5 Butler topped last week’s Class 3A No. 9 Monroe 62-47. No. 6 Carver-Columbus lost 60-34 to Class 3A No. 2 Fayette County at Girls Night Out while No. 7 Morgan County was upset at Union Grove 44-41 in the Southside Showdown.

Although there is no movement, Class A D-I is up for grabs. No. 1 Central-Macon suffered a surprising 41-31 loss to North Clayton at the Southside Showdown but maintain their position due to a largely idle field below them. No. 6 Lamar County holds tight after losing 58-48 to Woodland-Stockbridge at the Southside Showdown. No. 8 Rabun County bounced back after losing 53-47 at Highlands, NC, beating Lanier 48-42 at the Sandy’s Spiel Tip-Off Classic. Battling a fever, Adelyn Thompson powered the LadyCats with 26 points and 4 assists as they await the return of AddyBeth Owens.

Class A D-II has some early season shuffling with No. 4 Warren County climbing two spots with a 41-30 win against Strom Thurmond, SC at the Girls Only! Tip-Off Classic. No. 6 Bryan County rises three places after also winning at the event, beating Greenbrier 49-36 as Ashanti Brown collected 27 points, 11 rebounds and 2 blocks. No. 7 Early County tumbles three spots with a 59-28 loss at Bainbridge, Jacorra Russell not playing in the defeat. No. 8 Atkinson County lost 64-40 to Brantley County to fall one position.

Class 3A-1A Private had some big-time showdowns this week. No. 1 Hebron Christian defeated Class 6A No. 2 Norcross 58-42 on the road. No. 4 Holy Innocents’ slips two spots with a 62-55 loss to Class 5A No. 2 Langston Hughes at Girls Night Out. No. 5 Galloway lost 74-58 to Class 5A No. 1 River Ridge. Whitefield Academy (2-1) departs from the poll with a 52-41 loss to North Cobb Christian while Wesleyan (0-1) is also erased following a 47-37 loss at newly ranked No. 9 GAC. No. 10 Athens Academy debuts with a 65-58 win at Loganville Christian.
