With 2025 upon us, two classifications see no changes in the polls. A new number one has emerged in the state’s largest classification while other fields remain competitively fluid.
Class 6A sees No. 1 North Forsyth rise atop the poll, the lone unbeaten left. The Raiders won the Whataburger Black Division Championship at the Innisfree Hotels Beach Basketball Tournament beating Arlington, TN 68-42 behind Chattanooga-signee London Weaver’s career-high 36 points. No. 2 North Paulding slips a spot after a hard-fought 45-38 loss at Class 5A No. 2 Langston Hughes at BMCD. No. 3 Grayson escaped with a 67-64 win against No. 7 Archer who lost Jacksonville State-signee Meme Whitehead to an ACL tear this past month. No. 5 Newton won at last week’s Private No. 4 Galloway 53-50. No. 6 Campbell rises a spot with wins over Sparkman, AL (62-32) and Class 2A No. 7 Columbia (56-44) at BMCD. No. 9 Buford knocked Carver-Columbus out of the Class 2A poll, winning 61-44 as Lydia Ledford scored 19 points and Cybelle Forbes added 13.
There are no changes in the Class 5A rankings. No. 1 River Ridge defeated Bob Jones, AL 80-71 at the She Got Game Classic as five players reached double figures led by Kyla Cantey’s 17 points. No. 2 Langston Hughes toppled last week’s Class 6A No. 1 North Paulding 45-38 at BMCD. No. 3 Woodward Academy lost 52-49 to Southridge, FL at the Junior Orange Bowl Classic before coming back home to lose 69-67 to Private No. 3 Holy Innocents’ 69-67 at the She Got Game Classic, marking four-straight losses. No. 6 Tri-Cities pounded last week’s Class A D-I No. 5 Lamar County 60-31 on the road to win the Oscar Wimberly Classic as Paris Shelton poured in 29 points. No. 7 Bradwell Institute defeated last week’s Class 4A No. 10 Ware County 59-56 at Hoopin’ at the High. No. 8 Creekview won the Buzzer Beater Classic, topping Auburn, AL 55-52 while No. 9 Pope scored a 48-38 win at Cartersville at the Wood Elite Showdown as Abbey Bensman recorded 17 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists.
Multiple Class 4A teams had strong showings at out of state tournaments. No. 3 Marist won the Andrew Johnson Bank Classic Championship, beating Webb, TN 42-39. No. 4 Warner Robins rises a spot after winning the Pre-Holiday and Holiday Tournament Championship, beating Bishop Eustice Prep, NJ 37-36 before returning home to knock Ware County (14-3) out of the rankings with a 59-44 win. The Gators also lost 59-56 to Class 5A No. 7 Bradwell Institute earlier in the week. No. 7 Midtown defeated Cardinal Mooney, FL 82-79 at the She Got Game Classic, Devin Bockman exploding for 43 points to eclipse the 1,000-point mark in her career. No. 8 Jones County won at Class A D-I No. 6 Putnam County 52-42. Back in the Top 10 for the first time since Week 4 is No. 10 Dalton. The Catamounts got 25 points from Aubriyana Camp in a 59-44 win over Northwest Whitfield before topping Northview 66-56, Camp, Wisdom Kent and Alexia Gonzalez all scoring 14 points.
In Class 3A, No. 2 Fayette County won the Treasure Island Bracket at the Tampa Bay Christmas Invitational beating Seacrest Country Day, FL 59-24 before returning to Georgia to win 80-44 at Private No. 10 Trinity Christian. No. 4 Luella won the Davis Island Bracket in Tampa, beating Colonial, FL 68-48. No. 5 Pickens shoots up three spots, winning 50-46 at No. 6 White County and avoiding disaster against Class 2A No. 10 Coahulla Creek, outscoring the Colts 13-0 in the fourth quarter to rally for a 43-33 victory. Monroe (8-5) drops back out of the rankings with a 69-67 loss at Dougherty. For the first time this season, No. 10 Heritage-Catoosa breaks into the Top 10. The Lady Generals are coming off a 68-46 rout of Calhoun and have seen three of their four losses come against ranked opponents, two via Class 5A No. 9 Pope.
Class 2A No. 4 Murray County pulled away from Private No. 7 Greenforest at the St. Francis Holiday Shootout 61-45 as Callan Ledford dumped in 24 points, 5 assists and 8 steals. No. 7 Columbia lost 56-44 to Class 6A No. 6 Campbell at BMCD. No. 9 Union County clings onto their spot after winning Battle of the States by beating Polk County, TN 56-48, but losing 59-52 to Ringgold and 48-44 at Class A D-I No. 4 Fannin County. Carver-Columbus (3-6) drops out after a 61-44 loss at Class 6A No. 9 Buford and a 52-27 loss to Rockdale at BMCD. No. 10 Coahulla Creek floats back into the poll and could have risen higher, but were shutout on the road in the fourth quarter, losing 43-33 at Class 3A No. 5 Pickens after leading the majority of the game.
There are a lot of teams vying to enter the Top 10 in Class A D-I as certain pockets of the state are packing the poll. No. 3 Washington County rises three spots after winning at Northeast-Macon 51-35 but more so due to losses ahead of them. No. 4 Fannin County slips a spot after losing at Gilmer 57-38, but rebounding with a 48-44 win over Class 2A No. 9 Union County as Izzie Jabaley scored eight of her game-high 15 points in the fourth quarter. No. 5 Model sinks a spot with a 51-40 loss to McEachern in the Adairsville Christmas Clash. No. 6 Putnam County lost 52-42 to Class 4A No. 8 Jones County. No. 8 Lamar County tumbles three spots with a 60-31 loss to Class 5A No. 6 Tri-Cities in the Oscar Wimberly Classic Championship. No. 9 Bleckley County hangs onto their position, knocking East Laurens (5-4) out of the Top 10 with a 50-47 win but losing to Dodge County 49-45. Debuting is No. 10 Heard County, now the third team from Region 6 behind No. 5 Model and No. 7 Temple. The Lady Braves walloped Newnan (80-52) and Greenville (82-56) with their only losses coming against Model 46-44 and at Class 3A 9-3 Troup County 61-54.
There is no movement in Class A D-II. No. 2 Taylor County survived a scare with Marion County 45-43. No. 3 Seminole County lost 60-37 to Lanier and 46-39 to Bainbridge but holds their spot due to playing larger competition.
In Class 3A-1A Private, No. 2 St. Francis defeated Bob Jones, AL 75-58 at the She Got Game Classic while No. 3 Holy Innocents’ beat Class 5A No. 3 Woodward Academy 69-67 at SGGC. No. 5 Galloway slips a spot with a 53-50 loss to Class 6A No. 5 Newton. No. 7 Greenforest lost 61-45 to Class 2A No. 4 Murray County at the St. Francis Holiday Shootout. No. 10 Trinity Christian still has a grasp on the final spot even after an 80-44 loss to Class 3A No. 2 Fayette County. Whitefield Academy (10-6) drops out, defeated twice at the She Got Game Classic, losing to Grace Christian Academy, TN 64-34 who lost to No. 8 GAC 57-52 and beaten 89-67 by Westlake. Back in the Top 10 is No. 9 Athens Academy.
