The final regular season week of another GHSA season is upon us. Please make sure to email finalized region brackets and All-Region Teams to [email protected]. The Region Tournaments Master Schedule is already being compiled, so please help with any missing brackets.

In Class 6A, No. 1 North Paulding edged a scrappy Etowah team 47-38 after the Eagles pushed No. 8 Cherokee to the brink, the Warriors winning 67-64 in double overtime at Etowah. No. 5 Carrollton slips a spot with a 46-43 loss at Lakeview Academy. No. 6 Newton topped No. 10 Archer 59-51 on the road to avenge an earlier loss and push the Tigers down three spots. London Smith dropped in 20 points in the win. Lowndes (17-3) slips out of the poll following a narrow 54-49 win at Colquitt County and a 57-55 double overtime loss at home to 9-12 Tift County. No. 9 Buford bounces back in after a one-week hiatus, handling Mill Creek 70-58 behind Lydia Ledford and E’Miah Fields’ 28 points apiece to atone for their loss earlier in the season.

Class 5A No. 1 River Ridge took care of No. 9 Pope 59-33 in Marietta. No. 2 Langston Hughes hammered No. 5 Morrow 62-40 while No. 3 Woodward Academy held off No. 8 Tri-Cities 74-63 on the road, forcing the Bulldogs down two slots. No. 7 Creekview demolished Sequoyah 65-33 and Sprayberry 80-31 as Kailyn Hamby averaged 24 points and 5.5 assists.

Class 4A No. 7 Dalton won 42-34 at Calhoun while No. 8 Midtown finally beat region rival No. 9 Maynard Jackson 59-50 as Hailey Wortmann posted 20 points, 10 rebounds and 6 blocks, tumbling the Jaguars down three spaces. Stockbridge (18-4) exits the Top 10 with a 54-52 loss at Woodland-Stockbridge. For the first time since Week 1, No. 10 Harris County finds themselves back in the rankings. The Tigers hung a 4-0 week highlighted by a 58-43 win at Starr’s Mill who they lost to 57-51 in early January. 5-foot-8 senior Ja’Niya Broome is pouring in 20.2 points, 6.9 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 3.5 steals per game.

There are subtle changes in Class 3A. No. 1 Baldwin is back at full strength, beating last week’s Class A D-I No. 4 Washington County 49-34 on the road. No. 2 Fayette County got 13 points apiece from USC Upstate soccer-commit Deyla McCoy and BriAnn Freeman in a 61-53 win at No. 6 Sandy Creek who rises one spot after a 62-48 win at Trinity Christian who they lost to 71-70 in their first meeting. No. 3 Jefferson defeated No. 8 Oconee County 39-33 while No. 4 Pickens won 56-48 at Private No. 9 GAC before toppling No. 7 White County 54-48 to move up a spot over No. 5 Luella who needed overtime to win at 13-10 Stephenson 54-52. White County also lost 45-39 to Dawson County to start the week, slipping a spot in the poll but recorded a 50-39 win at debutant No. 10 Chestatee who breaks into the poll due to their strength of schedule and a 40-31 win at Dawson County. The Lady War Eagles have gone 6-6 against teams that have been ranked this season including a come from behind 44-42 win over current Class A D-I No. 1 Banks County. Chestatee has swept Private No. 9 GAC and briefly ranked Dawson County and hold a Lanierland title thanks to a 49-47 victory over No. 9 Cherokee Bluff who defeated East Hall 62-57 this past week and has monster showdowns with No. 8 Oconee County and No. 3 Jefferson to close the regular season. Slipping out of the Top 10 is Heritage-Catoosa (18-5). The Generals lost 56-48 at Calhoun after beating them 68-46 in early January. Heritage has played a strong schedule as well, recording a 3-4 mark against teams that have touched the Top 10.

There is no movement in Class 2A as the rankings held firm. No. 1 Thomson won 46-42 at No. 3 Butler. Butler then lost 54-46 to No. 2 Josey. It took a wild rally for No. 4 Murray County to win at No. 10 Union County 75-72 in double overtime, erasing a 17-point deficit as Callan Ledford exploded for 34 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists to outduel Ariel McCarter’s 28 points. Even with a subsequent loss at Ringgold 58-41 who Murray County beat 59-42 to close the week, Union County remains in the Top 10 due to their ability to push top teams to the limit. No. 5 Hardaway crushed Carver-Columbus 69-39 on the Hill while No. 6 Sonoraville beat Class A D-I No. 10 Model 57-43 in the Furnace.

Class A D-I continues to evolve. No. 5 Elbert County falls three spots with a 54-42 loss to newly ranked Private No. 10 Providence Christian. No. 4 Heard County rises two spaces with a 51-37 win at Temple while No. 6 East Laurens elevates two spots as well following a 56-49 win against No. 8 Washington County, the Golden Hawks tumbling four positions with a three-loss week, defeated by Dodge County 60-57 and Class 3A No. 1 Baldwin 49-34. No. 7 ACE won at Bleckley County 56-44 while No. 9 Lamar County beat Putnam County 61-55. No. 10 Model slides following a 57-43 loss at Class 2A No. 6 Sonoraville.

Class A D-II has movement as No. 2 Bryan County moves up with a 57-56 win against No. 9 Screven County. No. 3 Taylor County slips a spot with a 48-32 loss to returnee No. 8 Macon County. No. 4 Seminole County helped knock Early County (13-7) out of the rankings with a 49-42 win in Blakely after the Bobcats also lost 55-52 at Stewart County. No. 10 Randolph-Clay drops four spaces due to a 50-43 loss to Early County.

In Class 3A-1A Private, the top eight remain unchanged. Greenforest (10-9) slides out of the Top 10 with their fourth-straight loss, beaten 37-36 at Jasper County. Christian Heritage (18-5) departs after one week, losing 58-53 at Armuchee and beaten 63-55 at home by 9-10 Darlington. No. 9 GAC resurfaces after losing 56-48 to Class 3A No. 4 Pickens but earning a 58-47 win at Dawson County.
