The 2025-26 GHSA Basketball season officially tipped with a number of showcase events pitting early season Top 10 teams against one another.

Class 6A was busy thanks to the Georgia Elite 8 Tip-Off Classic as No. 2 Grayson pulled away from Class 4A No. 3 Pace Academy after leading 30-28 at halftime to win 77-56 behind MJ Curry’s 27 points (5 threes), 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 steal. Freshman Austin Leonard added 12 points, 7 rebounds and 2 blocks while Donaven Thomas scored 12 points off the bench and Byron Lee double-doubled with 10 points and 10 rebounds. No. 3 Pebblebrook outlasted Class 5A No. 4 Decatur in overtime 72-70 behind Kennesaw State-commit Zyree Brown’s 25 points, Alex Jones’ 20 and DJ McMillan’s 14. No. 4 McEachern pounded Newton 79-53 with Chase Lumpkin dumping in 28 points followed by Emmanuel Alofe’s 12 and Zion Williams’ 10. No. 6 Hillgrove sinks a spot, losing to Class 5A No. 6 Dutchtown 72-71, spoiling Bryson Jatta’s 23 points and Landon Grundy’s 18-point outburst. Away from the GE8TOC, Norcross (0-1) was drilled by debutant No. 5 South Gwinnett 80-55 at the DoubleTrouble Invitational and replaced in the rankings. Freshman JaCody Terry exploded for 24 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals and 1 block.

In Class 5A, No. 3 Woodward Academy pulled away from Westlake at Hoops4Hunger as Jarvis Hayes Jr. went for 26 points, 5 rebounds and 4 steals in a 73-62 victory. Vernon 49-46 at the Battle in the Peach State. Chris Oliver and Eston McDow scored 18 points apiece in the win over Tucker while Ryan McCord added 17 points and Octavius Gresham chipped in 14.

Georgia Southern-commit Hayden Clay scored 13 of his team-high 17 points in the first half. The storylines off the court are most interesting in Class 3A. No. 6 East Hall was idle this week, but star guard Jamarcus Harrison is now rumored to not be playing basketball this season in order to enroll early at Kennesaw State for football and Braydon Langston is likely out till late January due to offseason ankle surgery, zapping the Vikings of their two best players. In strictly basketball news, No. 8 Westover and No. 9 Douglass swap spots as the Patriots beat Monroe at the Tip-Off Classic while the Astros fell to Morrow 66-57 at Hoops4Hunger.
