Class 6A is unmoved. No. 1 Newton topped Wheeler at Hoops4Hunger 61-42 behind London Smith’s 17 points. No. 5 Grayson trounced Osborne 59-15 at the Meadowcreek Tip-Off Classic while No. 9 Hillgrove protected homecourt at their Forever 14 Showcase, defeating South Gwinnett 71-55 as Savannah State-commit Kierra Jackson dumped in 26 points.
Class 5A had some key results in weekend one. No. 1 River Ridge survived a shorthanded Class 3A-1A Private No. 3 Holy Innocents’ 61-60 as UNC Greensboro-commit Kyla Cantey drained a three with 3.9 seconds left to give Coach Jason Taylor his 300th win. Finley Parker (22), Reagan Mulligan (18) and Samford-commit Makayla Roberson (13) combined for 53 points. No. 6 Woodward Academy moves up a spot after knocking off Alexander (0-1) 55-44 at Hoops4Hunger, dropping the Cougars from the Top 10. Lauryn Cooper led the way with 17 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 6 steals while Nimah Ibidunni powered Alexander with 21 points and 5 rebounds. No. 7 Creekview blasted Preseason Class 3A No. 5 Gilmer 59-35 at the Roger Slaton Tip-Off Classic. No. 10 Lee County dispatched of Dougherty 60-25. Into the poll is No. 8 Pope. After a contentious offseason the Greyhounds are at full strength. Pope beat McEachern 52-44 at Forever 14 as Preseason First Team All-State selection Abbey Bensman dominated with 30 points and 17 rebounds.
There is no movement in Class 4A. No. 4 Kell defeated Campbell 59-51 at Hoops4Hunger as Howard-commit Kennedy Deese recorded 14 points and 8 rebounds. No. 6 Midtown cruised by North Atlanta 52-30, Devin Bockman piling in 27 points, 3 rebounds and 7 steals.
There are slight changes in Class 3A. No. 4 Monroe beat Westover 67-24 at the Tip-Off Classic, Kie’Aundria Acree posting 29 points and 12 rebounds. No. 5 Luella is up two spots with a 71-21 win over Hampton. Freshmen Jade Jones (22 points, 4 assists) and Imari Thompson (11 points, 7 rebounds) leading the charge. No. 7 Gilmer falls two positions with a 59-35 loss to Class 5A No. 7 Creekview at the Roger Slaton Tip-Off Classic as Paula Robertson did not play, still working her way back from knee surgery.
Class 2A sees two results but no changes. No. 3 Columbia survived Tri-Cities 51-47 at Hoops4Hunger while No. 5 Hardaway escaped Woodland-Stockbridge 46-44.
Class A D-I was dormant except for No. 6 Banks County losing at home to Lakeview Academy 52-47 at the North Georgia Report Showcase.
No one played in Class A D-II.
Class 3A-1A Private saw No. 2 St. Francis hold off Norcross 50-40 at the DoubleTrouble Invitational. No. 3 Holy Innocents’ is waiting to be at full strength but competed well against Class 5A No. 1 River Ridge at the Forever 14 Showcase, losing just before the buzzer 61-60. No. 8 Whitefield Academy got 16 points from Amelia Newman to knock off North Cobb Christian 58-41 at Forever 14. Trinity Christian (0-1) is out of the rankings after a 55-28 loss to Northview but more importantly, the transfer of Preseason Second Team All-State pick Elyse Norris to Whitehaven, TN. No. 10 Providence Christian slides into the Top 10.
