In Class 6A, No. 3 McEachern thumped Class 5A No. 1 Tri-Cities 87-67 at the Hawks-Naismith Tip-Off Classic to climb in the poll as Chase Lumpkin poured in 30 points, 11 rebounds, 3 assists, 4 steals and 2 blocks. No. 4 Pebblebrook survived Kell in overtime 92-87. No. 6 Buford tipped off their season at the Jackson EMC Tip-Off Classic, beating last week’s Class A D-I No. 6 Towers 77-56. No. 7 Westlake falls two spots after losing 67-51 to Class 5A No. 7 Langston Hughes and taking overtime to knock off Therrell 67-62 at the HBCU All-Star Challenge. No. 9 Cherokee suffered a 59-54 loss against Class 5A No. 2 Alexander at the Jared Cook Classic after leading through three quarters behind Sean Hamilton’s 21 points.
Class 5A No. 1 Tri-Cities hangs onto their spot narrowly after an 87-67 loss to Class 6A No. 3 McEachern at the Hawks-Naismith Tip-Off Classic, Georgia Tech-signee Jalan Wingfield with 18 points, 13 rebounds and 4 steals. No. 2 Alexander remained perfect without Colorado State-signee Pops Dunson, rallying to beat Class 6A No. 9 Cherokee 59-54 at the Jared Cook Classic behind Torian Greene’s 15 points. No. 3 Woodward Academy lost at the buzzer to Private No. 1 Holy Innocents’ 64-63 at Hawks-Naismith, spoiling Myles Hayes’ 19-point performance. No. 5 Gainesville trounced Kell 76-43 at Hawks-Naismith as Troy-signee Quintin Mansfield posted 21 points and 8 rebounds. No. 7 Langston Hughes topped last week’s Class 6A No. 5 Westlake 67-51 on the road. No. 8 Milton saw Solomon Bratton score with eight seconds left to knock off Class 3A No. 1 Cross Creek 56-55 at Hawks-Naismith, Bratton collecting 13 points and 6 rebounds. Chamblee (3-2) departs with a 70-64 loss to North Atlanta. No. 10 Houston County debuts after a 74-66 win against Howard and the return of football players expected this week.
Class 4A No. 6 Westminster blew past Class 2A No. 4 KIPP Atlanta 78-61 while No. 7 Mays edged Class 3A No. 8 Douglass 73-70 at the HBCU All-Star Challenge as Jack Sparks scored 22 points. Warner Robins (1-2) drops out after losses to Jones County 58-54 in overtime and newly ranked Class 3A No. 10 Baldwin 67-54. No. 10 Marist debuts coming off a 63-55 win over Clarkston.
No. 1 Cross Creek saw a lead slip away against Class 5A No. 8 Milton at the Hawks-Naismith Tip-Off Classic losing 56-55 but the Razorbacks remain atop Class 3A. Frashad Tisby recorded 21 points and 9 rebounds in the loss in support of Dontrell Jackson who finished with a game-high 22 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 6 steals. Earlier in the week, Cross Creek defeated Class 2A No. 2 Butler 68-49. No. 4 Cherokee Bluff blasted Valdosta 87-60 at the PRO Movement Showcase as Any Quirarte netted a school-record eight threes en route to 31 points. No. 8 Douglass fell 73-70 to Class 4A No. 7 Mays at the HBCU All-Star Challenge. East Hall (0-3) exits the poll with losses to North Hall 60-59 and Archer 73-47. No. 10 Baldwin breaks through after beating last week’s Class 4A No. 10 Warner Robins 67-54 on the road.
Class 2A No. 2 Butler fell 68-49 at Class 3A No. 1 Cross Creek while No. 4 KIPP Atlanta lost 78-61 at Class 4A No. 6 Westminster. No. 5 South Atlanta saw North Carolina Central-signee Duor Duor go for 29 points and 9 rebounds in a 60-50 win against Maynard Jackson at the HBCU All-Star Challenge. Morgan County (0-2) drops out following an 81-80 loss at Class A D-I No. 1 Putnam County, replaced by No. 9 Kendrick who went 3-0 this week highlighted by a 70-53 win at Jones County.
Class A D-I No. 1 Putnam County survived last week’s Class 2A No. 9 Morgan County 81-80 before hammering Class A D-II No. 7 Hancock Central 78-58. No. 4 Toombs County beat Bacon County 58-44 as Cornelius Bullard scored 16 points at the Hugh McBride Tip-Off Classic while No. 6 Vidalia received 31 points from Rashad Brown in a 62-43 win against Long County. No. 8 Towers has played the toughest schedule in the classification by a long shot, but slips two spots with an 82-41 loss to Private No. 2 Walker and a 77-58 loss to Class 6A No. 6 Buford at the Jackson EMC Tip-Off Classic.
In Class A D-II, No. 4 Randolph-Clay beat Stewart County 64-44 as Nekevious Josey scored 17 points and Tyrion Smith netted 16. No. 6 Turner County is up four spots with wins at Miller County 84-29 and Jeff Davis 56-54. No. 7 Hancock Central lost 78-58 at Class A D-I No. 1 Putnam County.
There is no movement in Class 3A-1A Private. No. 1 Holy Innocents’ stunned Class 5A No. 3 Woodward Academy 64-63 at Hawks-Naismith as Belmont-signee Devin Hutcherson scored at the buzzer to put a cap on his 30-point, 13-rebound outburst. Jaden McCullough had 23 in the win. No. 2 Walker drilled Class A D-I No. 8 Towers 82-41. No. 3 Mt. Vernon beat No. 8 Hebron Christian 59-56 at the Jared Cook Classic, Darrell Dickens III posting 22 points and 9 rebounds.
