Inclement weather caused a handful of Saturday games to be either canceled or postponed, but there was still enough basketball played throughout the week shuffle up the rankings.

Two regions are going in different directions in the Class 7A poll. Region 8 has continued to surge while Region 2 has struggled to find momentum. No. 2 Shiloh blew past No. 8 Newton 80-65, dropping the Rams three spots. Newton also fell to No. 6 Archer, who is at their high mark following wins over Rockdale County (73-49) and the Rams 65-57 in Covington. Brent Smith had 24 points and 7 rebounds while CJ Hines had 17 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists in the win over Newton.  No. 5 Wheeler looks like the official front-runner in Region 2 after knocking Pebblebrook (9-8) from the Top 10 with a 66-53 win and then a 60-52 victory at No. 10 East Coweta, dropping the Indians two spots. Wheeler dominated inside against East Coweta after freshman Isaiah Collier broke a bone near his shoulder socket, ending his season early. Denver-signee Sam Hines and Ja’Hiem Hudson carried the Wildcats. Hines finished with 17 points, 10 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and 1 block while Hudson posted 16 points, 11 rebounds, 2 assists and 5 blocks. Outside of Region 2 and Region 8, No. 3 Norcross held on to beat Berkmar 54-52 while No. 4 Milton erased an early 30-19 deficit to race past West Forsyth 84-66 behind Bruce Thornton’s 31 points and 7 assists. No. 9 Cherokee falls two spots after a 55-48 loss to Roswell but holds tight in the rankings after a bounce-back 46-36 win at Etowah. Returning to the poll is No. 7 McEachern. The Indians don’t have the services of 6-foot-11 Dylan Cardwell yet and its looking decreasingly likely that he will become eligible, but All-State move-in 6-foot-5 junior Chance Moore comes over from Holy Innocents’ and adds another scorer with length. He had 10 points in his debut off the bench in a 91-75 win at Kennesaw Mountain.

For the first time all season, Class 6A has a new No. 1. No. 3 Tri- Cities drops two spots after a 72-56 loss to returnee No. 6 Langston Hughes – one of three new teams in this week’s rankings. Peyton Daniels was ejected in the loss. Campbell-signee PJ Carter went for 31 points and Kennesaw State-signee Kasen Jennings scored 17 for the Panthers. Rising to the top is No. 1 South Cobb, winners of 17-straight. The Eagles are led by 6-foot-7 Illinois State-signee Emon Washington (23.2 ppg, 9 rpg, 2.5 spg, 1.2 bpg) and super sophomore Zocko Littleton Jr. (18 ppg). South Cobb visits No. 5 Sequoyah on Tuesday. The Chiefs have the third longest winning streak in Class 6A at nine-in-a-row. South Cobb won their first meeting 78-68, never trailing. The second longest winning streak in 6A belongs to debutant No. 9 Valdosta. The Wildcats have won 13-straight under first-year Head Coach Darrell Lockhart who helped Upson-Lee to back-to-back state titles in 2017 and 2018. Valdosta is coming off wins over Northside-Warner Robins (63-53) and Houston County (63-51).  Seniors Ricky Brown (19.4 ppg) and Allin Floyd (13.4 ppg) pace the attack. Another Region 1 team from South Georgia also debuts in the poll in No. 7 Lee County. The Trojans cracked Coffee 58-32 in a statement game. Senior Damien Favors averages 12.6 points while 5-foot-8 junior MJ Taylor pitches in 12.4 points to lead Lee County. No. 8 Evans is down four spots following an 80-57 loss to Heritage-Conyers. Falling completely out of the poll is Region 7 teams Chattahoochee (12-7) and North Atlanta (10-5) along with Region 2’s Effingham County (11-4). Region 7 has proven to be hard to rank as now four teams are tied for first-place at 7-3 while North Atlanta is 6-3. Chattahoochee had a strong 76-50 revenge win over No. 10 Pope, but couldn’t keep momentum and lost focus in an 89-85 overtime loss to Centennial. North Atlanta didn’t handle their Top 10 spotlight well and lost to Johns Creek 65-42 and Class 3A No. 8 Westminster 61-50. Effingham County was defeated by 12-7 Brunswick 51-50. The Pirates now hold first place in Region 2 at 4-0.

The long-awaited showdown in Region 4-AAAAA did not disappoint as No. 2 Eagle’s Landing outlasted No. 3 Dutchtown 87-80 in overtime. Presbyterian-signee Kirshon Thrash dumped in 31 points while Stetson-signee Keith Lamar netted 26 to power the Eagles. The Bulldogs received a game-high 32 points from Cam Bryant and 18 from Gardner-Webb-signee Jamaine Mann. No. 4 Cedar Shoals got the monkey off their back in Region 8 with a 67-61 win over Buford (13-5). Quincy Canty went for 29 points and 5 rebounds. The Jaguars knocked the Wolves from the Top 10 and now have their sights set on No. 10 Walnut Grove, who they visit on Tuesday with a chance to gain separation atop Region 8. The Warriors sink three spots after a 74-66 loss at Clarke Central, who quietly has put themselves in the region championship picture at 9-4 overall and 3-1 in region play, their only loss a recent 58-57 defeat at rival Cedar Shoals. Outside of Region 8, No. 7 Veterans won their anticipated Region 1 battle with No. 8 Warner Robins 73-65, getting 19 points from Jalyn Williams and 16 and 15 from DeAngelo Hines and Horace Johnson, respectively. No. 5 Kell didn’t look sharp in a 75-67 win over East Paulding. Game Elite Big 5 teammates Parrish Johnson and 6-foot-8 All-State sophomore Joyful Hawkins both transfer in from Decatur to join travel ball teammate Scooter Henderson. Hawkins moved from Brunswick over the summer to follow Johnson. Hawkins was ineligible at Decatur and likely won’t be cleared to play at all this season. If Hawkins can get his schoolwork in line, he will put Kell as a frontrunner to win state whenever he gets himself eligible. Speaking of Region 7, don’t look now but No. 9 Carrollton is finally healthy. Back in the poll, the Trojans have won 11-straight and passed three big tests this past week beating Villa Rica 68-65 in overtime, Hiram 57-54 and Paulding County 68-55. Unsigned 6-foot-3 guard Marcellious Lockett has been outstanding. He hit a falling out of bounds turnaround three to force overtime against Villa Rica. He forms the best duo in west Georgia along with 6-foot-6 UNCW-signee Melvin Edwards who missed time early in the season due to an ankle injury.

No. 1 Woodward Academy continues to roll in Class 4A. They won the Battle of College Park against returnee No. 8 North Clayton 79-65 behind 61 combined points from UNC-signee Walker Kessler (22), Davidson-signee Emory Lanier (20) and Will Richard (19). The Eagles bounced back after the loss with a 65-64 overtime win over McDonough to get into the Top 10, Derrius Martin hitting the game-winner as time expired. Sticking in Region 4, No. 5 Eastside is down a spot after an upset loss at Druid Hills 45-43. Rising one spot is No. 4 Chapel Hill. The Panthers showed well in Region 5 play, losing 77-68 to No. 2 Sandy Creek before edging Central-Carrollton 46-43 on the road and surviving Cartersville at the Storm Center 82-79 in double overtime, KJ Doucet leading the way with 21 points followed by Kelvin Hunter (17), Mikai Valentine (16) and Micah Bell (14). At the bottom of the poll, LaGrange (17-1) did nearly everything they had to stick in the Top 10 but their week ended on a sour eye-opening note. The Grangers beat Cartersville (71-56) and rival Troup County in front of a sold-out crowd in Troup’s new gym, the first game played there, 58-54. But on Saturday, LaGrange faced their biggest test of the season and did not do well, getting rocked at home by Sandy Creek 75-45. Jabari Smith posted 19 points and 18 rebounds while Destin Jenkins added 16 and 10. The Grangers depart the Top 10 for now as does Baldwin (9-6). The Braves went 0-2 losing to debutant No. 9 Burke County 64-54 and to Class A-Public No. 7 Wilkinson County 64-59. The Bears are led by 6-foot-3 junior Bobby Little who averages 16.5 points per game. Seniors Roderick McBride (14.5 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 4.7 apg) and Dexter Jones (14.2 ppg, 6.7 rpg) round out the offense.

The Top 5 sees major changes in Class 3A. No. 1 Pace Academy holds serve following an 84-71 win at rival Lovett (12-5) dropping the Lions from the poll. Up to the second spot is No. 2 Dawson County after No. 5 Johnson-Savannah tumbles three spots following a 61-60 loss at Beach. Dawson County scored two blowout wins over East Hall (87-52) and Fannin County (90-41). The Tigers used a 43-1 run against Fannin County as four players finished in double figures led by Campbell Reed’s 17 points. No. 3 Windsor Forest is up two spots after No. 6 Hart County suffered their first loss of the year to No. 4 Franklin County 64-55 in Hartwell. Micah Roebuck led the Lions with 22 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists while Keylan Rutledge chipped in 13 points and 9 rebounds and Titus Brown tallied 11 points and 7 boards. No. 7 Westminster rises two spots after a 61-50 win over last week’s Class 6A No. 8 North Atlanta. Replacing Lovett in the Top 10 is No. 10 Central-Macon. The Chargers finally have some momentum, winning four-straight. First-place in Region 4 is on the line as they host Westside-Macon on Tuesday, also winners of four-straight and both sitting at 6-1 in region play.

In Class 2A, No. 2 Swainsboro’s assault of Region 2 continued with wins on the road against Metter (89-47) and Toombs County (92-53). No. 4 Jeff Davis is up two spots after surviving Bacon County 78-76 then bashing Woodville-Tompkins with a statement win 70-39 as Murray State-signee Ja’Queze Kirby erupted for 24 points, 14 rebounds, 6 assists, 5 steals and 4 blocks. Over in Region 4, No. 5 Glenn Hills climbs two places and finally has some breathing room atop the standings sitting at 10-1 after beating No. 6 Butler 81-71. The Bulldogs bounced back however with a 61-57 controversial overtime win over No. 8 Laney. Treyveyon Perry scored 16 points and Richard Visitacion had 14 in the win. No. 7 Spencer broke the scoreboard in back-to-back games, smashing Bremen 105-29 and Lamar County 106-60. No. 9 Dublin won their Region 3 bout with No. 10 Washington County 46-44.

No. 1 St. Francis blew out No. 2 Walker 80-59 in Class A-Private but the Wolverines move up a spot after No. 3 Greenforest fell to Class A-Public No. 4 Drew Charter 69-66 even after the addition of All-State guard Chase Cormier. Xavier-signee Dwon Odom ran wild against Walker with 22 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists while Jusuan Holt had 18 points and 8 rebounds. Chase Ellis posted 17 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists. Seth Hubbard hit 5 threes en route to 17 points. No. 8 Galloway is down two spots after a 50-46 loss to Holy Innocents’. No. 9 Christian Heritage falls two slots as well thanks to a 75-73 loss at Bowdon. Up to No. 6 is Wesleyan. The Wolves defeated previously ranked WD Mohammed (11-4) 47-34. No. 7 First Presbyterian Day scored a nice 70-64 win over Howard to climb three spots. Debuting in the Top 10 is No. 10 Riverside Military. They have played a robust schedule and are coming off a 60-53 overtime win against Athens Academy. Shad Dabney led the way with 21 points followed by Areeb Ahmad’s 15. The Eagles now visit 17-1 Providence Christian Academy who lost 54-49 to Athens Academy on Tuesday.

No. 4 Drew Charter’s 69-66 win over Class A-Private No. 3 Greenforest skyrockets the Eagles up four spots and are now the highest ranked team in Class A-Public that isn’t undefeated. Going in the wrong direction is No. 9 Hancock Central, down four spots after a 57-56 loss at Lincoln County. No. 7 Wilkinson County beat last week’s Class 4A No. 9 Baldwin 64-59 on the road. Region 7 is trying to sort itself out as now No. 10 Warren County joins the mix following Turner County (12-4) exiting the poll after hard-fought losses to Macon County (55-54) and No. 2 Wilcox County (71-63). The Screaming Devils blasted Lincoln County 80-50 to earn some Top 10 validation.
