No. 3 Cherokee dispatched of Roswell 70-61 behind Limestone-signee Ashlyn Andrus’ 23 points, Furman-commit Kate Johnson’s 22 and Navy-signee Sydne Watts’ 14 points. No. 4 North Forsyth blew out county rivals South Forsyth (65-37) and Forsyth Central (56-23). No. 7 Tift County is down two spots after losing to Colquitt County 64-56. No. 6 Campbell rose one position following their 44-42 win over No. 10 Pebblebrook. Rockdale County (18-5) is out after a 58-54 loss at Newton. Back into the poll is No. 8 McEachern. The Indians won at North Paulding 76-67 before losing to Marietta 61-57 then bouncing back with a 69-54 win over No. 9 North Cobb.

No. 1 Lovejoy remains atop Class 6A after losing two games to out-of-state competition, 47-41 to Hoover, AL and 46-44 to National Christian Academy, MD. The Wildcats finished up their trip to New York with a 50-44 win over St. Laurent (Manitoba, Canada).  No. 6 Dacula is down two spots after losing to a surging Lanier 46-27 without Lazaria Spearman. Nyla Rose Moore went down with a shoulder injury late in the game and could potentially miss time depending on the severity of the injury. No. 9 Mt. Zion-Jonesboro notched a big win over No. 10 Stephenson, holding off the Jaguars in overtime 66-64.

Class 5A almost saw a new team take the perch following No. 1 Buford’s 45-43 loss at Class A-Private No. 4 Wesleyan but the Wolves hold onto their top spot even after No. 2 Kell blasted Villa Rica (19-4) out of the rankings 76-51 and then survived No. 6 Carrollton 54-52 on two Amaya Moss free throws with 2.7 seconds left. The Trojans climb four spots with their strong showing and also after trouncing Rome 48-31 earlier in the week. No. 5 Wayne County won their rematch with No. 9 Statesboro 40-33 to sink the Blue Devils two spots. Entering the Top 10 for the first time this season is No. 10 Loganville. The Red Devils scored wins over Walnut Grove (67-28) and Clarke Central (64-46) and now visit Buford on Tuesday looking to atone for an earlier 49-42 loss.

In Class 4A, No. 5 Troup County remains as the classification’s lone unbeaten after surviving against Sandy Creek (44-43), Cedartown (47-37) and LaGrange (45-29). No. 4 Woodward Academy jumps back over the Tigers after whipping North Clayton 66-38.  No. 6 Luella outlasted Eastside in overtime 75-69. No. 8 Stephens County won at St. Pius X 58-56 behind Ranajah Verdell and Kiki Howard’s 16 points apiece. No. 9 Baldwin edged Burke County 53-51. Central-Carrollton (19-4) falls out of the rankings after a 51-44 loss to Chapel Hill and is replaced by No. 10 Madison County, who is back in the poll for the first time since opening the season ranked No. 8, falling out in the Week 1 edition. The Red Raiders are finding their rhythm, winners of six of their last eight games including wins on the road over Oconee County (69-44) and North Oconee (58-54) this week to move into second-place in Region 8 trailing Stephens County by half a game. Reigning Sandy’s Spiel Ms. Basketball 5-foot-7 junior Kayla McPherson has been unstoppable this season, adding to her lore. She’s averaging 36.3 points, 7.1 rebounds, 7 assists and 6 steals while shooting 43% from the field. She fell one-point shy of tying her career-high against Stephens County on January 17 when she poured in 63 points on 25-of-53 shooting.

There is plenty of shuffling in Class 3A below No. 1 Johnson-Savannah who went on the road to beat Sequoyah 73-54 as Jaida Burgess went for 18 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists and 7 steals. No. 3 Beach struggled against Islands 33-29 but moves up a spot after No. 5 GAC was upset by Lumpkin County 67-35 to fall two places. Into the four spot is No. 4 Ringgold. Legendary Head Coach Margaret Stockburger has her team peaking at the right time for a second straight season, winning nine-straight games. No. 9 Coahulla Creek falls four spots after losing for the second time to No. 8 Sonoraville 62-48 before bouncing back with a big 60-59 win over Northwest Whitfield. No. 6 North Hall leaps three spots thanks to a convincing 66-50 win over Dawson County. No. 10 Cedar Grove is the hard-luck drop in this week’s poll, slipping two spots after drilling Lovett (69-44) and Stone Mountain (70-27). They will have a chance to shoot back into the middle of the pack as they visit 17-6 Westminster on Friday for the Region 5 regular season title. Both teams are 9-1 in region play with Cedar Grove winning their first meeting 57-52 back in early December.

Down in Region 8-AA, it is a huge week for No. 4 Putnam County. After winning at No. 10 Union County 58-47, the War Eagles now control their own destiny on their road to securing the number one seed heading into the region tournament. They play a tough young 15-8 Elbert County team before traveling to No. 5 Rabun County for the regular season region championship. The War Eagles won their first meeting 58-54, but Rabun has won five-straight since their lone loss of the season to Putnam County and just this past week defeated Elbert County 69-55 and drilled Union County 72-39, dropping the Panthers four spots. Over in Region 3, No. 7 Southwest-Macon beat Washington County (17-4) for the second time this year, 49-31 in Sandersville to drop the Golden Hawks from the poll. The Patriots have a chance to secure the number one seed if they can defeat East Laurens – the only team in region play to beat them this season. Following Washington County out of the rankings is Bryan County (19-4). For the second time this season, returnee No. 8 Vidalia handled them with relative ease, 52-32. Debuting in the Top 10 is No. 9 Chattooga. The Indians beat Gordon Central 55-51 and are on the verge of locking up the top-seed heading into the Region 7 tournament. Freshman Makiya Parrish has been a game-changer adding another lethal guard to Coach Alvah Beasley’s backcourt which has been led by junior Faith Ann Foster.

Class A-Private sees movement at the bottom of the poll but at the top No. 1 St. Francis held off No. 6 Mt. Paran 75-70, withstanding 26 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists from star sophomore Kara Dunn. No. 3 Holy Innocents’ picked up big wins over West Forsyth (55-34) and Spain Park, AL (55-40). No. 4 Wesleyan fell to Class 7A No. 2 Collins Hill 71-50 but rebounded by beating No. 9 Galloway 71-49 and Class 5A No. 1 Buford 45-43 as Georgia Tech-signee AC Carter had 16 points and 9 rebounds. The Scots of Galloway sink two spots after also losing to No. 8 Darlington 47-42.  No. 5 Greenforest destroyed Paideia 72-43, who knocked ELCA (14-5) from the poll with a 54-51 win over the Chargers.  ELCA also lost to returnee No. 7 Trinity Christian 58-55.  Stratford Academy (18-3) is out after a 47-44 loss to Elite Scholars Academy making way for No. 10 Calvary Day.

No. 1 Central-Talbotton blew past No. 9 Macon County 53-27 in Class A-Public. No. 6 Bowdon lost on a buzzer-beating three to Christian Heritage 44-42, but earned a 47-44 win over Class A-Private No. 8 Darlington behind birthday girl Dasia Wyatt’s 21 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals. Dooly County (14-7) is out after a 60-57 loss to Marion County. Entering the poll for the first time since Week 9 is No. 8 Pelham who had a perfect 4-0 week including wins over rival Mitchell County 57-40 and 52-45.
