As football season winds down, teams are slowly getting their units at full strength. More early season tournaments have allowed for Top 10 battles to take place across classifications in the Jared Cook Classic, Roswell Rotary Honor Air Classic and Tabo’s Tip-Off Classic before Holiday Hoopsgiving sets the stage this weekend.

No. 2 McEachern survived a scare in Class 7A, heading into the fourth quarter tied at 37 with No. 7 Pebblebrook before pulling out a 56-46 victory as Bobby Moore emerged with 18 points while Auburn-signee Sharife Cooper was held to just 13. No. 3 Norcross held off a reeling Berkmar, 63-57 on the road. Lambert (3-1) exits the poll after a 75-46 loss to Class 4A No. 1 Woodward Academy at the Jared Cook Classic. They are replaced by No. 9 Campbell, who scored an 87-83 win over No. 5 Wheeler last week. No. 10 Archer slips two spots after losing 53-50 to Alexander at the Jared Cook Classic.

The middle of Class 6A sees some shuffling around and some new faces as No. 4 Chattahoochee lost to debutant No. 10 Pope 67-61 as Will Kolker went for 20 points and 8 assists while Ross Shepherd posted 17 points and 15 rebounds in the win. No. 7 Sequoyah drops two spots after Shiloh outmuscled them for an 86-74 win at the Rotary Honor Air Classic. No. 8 Lanier is down one position after losing to Peachtree Ridge 48-45 but rebounding with a 60-41 win over Class A-Private No. 8 Holy Innocents’ 60-41 as Iajah Phillips netted 14 points. No. 6 Allatoona climbs three spots after wins over River Ridge (67-55) and Creekview (77-48). No. 9 New Manchester bursts into the Top 10 after beating Class 5A No. 10 Lithia Springs 88-71 behind Dee Topps’ 24 points and a career day from Benjamin Raspberry who went for 20 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists, 6 steals and 2 blocks. The Jaguars also ripped Mays 100-48 to wrap up their successful week. Making way for New Manchester and Pope are hard-luck exiles Douglas County (1-2) and Evans (1-0). The Tigers lost to Class 5A No. 7 Hiram 80-69 and Class 5A No. 1 Eagle’s Landing 63-54 before beating Lithia Springs 96-88 in a shootout.

No. 1 Eagle’s Landing looks comfortable as the team to beat right now in Class 5A after picking up wins over Buford (68-52), Douglas County (63-54) and Houston County (84-50). Presbyterian-signee Kirshon Thrash posted 26 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists in the rout of the Bears. No. 2 Kell kept pace by smacking Marietta 78-44 as Najhae Colon had a historic night going 8-of-9 from three for 30 points. No. 4 Lithonia beat Statesboro 66-51 as Frank Champion hung 27 points and 10 rebounds while Eric Gaines chipped in 13 points and 6 assists. No. 7 Hiram looks like the real deal so far, moving up a spot after an 80-69 win at Douglas County. Fayette County (1-4) is out of the rankings after losses to Class 7A No. 4 East Coweta, newly ranked No. 9 Jonesboro (48-39) and Class 6A No. 2 Tucker (66-34). The Cardinals of Jonesboro will be a team to track as their first 14 games are on the road before opening up their new gym on January 7 vs. Whitewater. Quinn Thomas has averaged 21.3 points and 5 rebounds to lead the Cards.

Class 4A No. 1 Woodward Academy has shined with the target on their back. They scored two more wins against ranked opponents, beating No. 5 Eastside 63-50 and last week’s Class 7A No. 9 Lambert 75-46 at the Jared Cook Classic. The interesting action in Class 4A has come at the bottom of the poll as Dougherty (0-2) and Baldwin (1-2) have been early disappointments under new leadership. Bakari Bryant’s Trojans lost 80-79 at Columbus, who finished 0-23 a season ago, while Anthony Webb’s Braves were drilled at his old stomping grounds of Hancock Central, 73-45. No. 8 Marist and No. 9 Howard replace the two. The War Eagles’ best two wins have come against Pinecrest Academy (49-45) and Shaw (54-44). Coach Jay Lunce’s Huskies have come to fruition after taking their lumps as a young program. Howard hosted their first playoff game since 2012 last season and now lean on an experienced senior class led by Leon Pitts (23 ppg) and Collin Tarver (21.5 ppg). The Huskies knocked last week’s Class 3A No. 2 Westside-Macon out of the polls with a 65-49 win, taking advantage of a dinged-up Seminole team.

From No. 2 to unranked, Westside-Macon (1-2) has fallen out of the Class 3A Top 10 as now both star players, Javian Mosley and Kowacie Reeves Jr., are out with injuries. Reeves will be in a boot for at least two weeks. Westside lost to Class 4A No. 9 Howard 65-49 before scrapping together a 48-45 win over Northeast-Macon. No. 2 Johnson-Savannah jumps three spots behind the play of Emondre Bowles and Derek Edwards who combined for 51 points in a 76-61 win over Beach. No. 4 Dawson County could have moved up, but it took a 28-11 fourth quarter to rally past Creekview 70-59 at the GetMickey Raider Classic. No. 6 Windsor Forest and No. 8 Jefferson both move up two spots. The Knights beat up on Islands 109-56 while Jefferson defeated Mill Creek (81-63) and Flowery Branch (60-44). Replacing Westside-Macon is No. 9 GAC. The Spartans beat Class A-Private No. 4 Trinity Christian 60-53 but faltered against Class A-Private No. 8 Holy Innocents’ 63-55. GAC closed out the week on a high note however, getting 24 points from Clifton Baskerville and 21 from Lamarr Randolph in a 62-48 win over Monroe Area at the Tabo’s Tip-Off Classic.

There is shakeup near the bottom of the poll in Class 2A as Laney (0-1), Woodville-Tompkins (1-1) and KIPP Atlanta (2-4) all exit the rankings. Laney was blasted at home by debutant No. 9 Butler 71-47. The Bulldogs followed up with a 61-57 win over Salem, getting 17 points from Trayveyon Perry and 16 and 14 points respectively, out of Adrian Hatcher and Richard Visitiacion. Earlier in the week, Butler lost 62-61 to No. 5 Glenn Hills. Woodville-Tompkins suffered their first regular season loss since December 18, 2017, falling to a young Buford team 69-47 at the Gladiator Showcase.  KIPP Atlanta couldn’t handle the target on their back and lost all three games this week: Washington (66-56), newly ranked No. 8 Douglass (76-71) and Decatur (55-48). The Astros of Douglass come surging into the poll behind a talented nucleus consisting of 6-foot-6 junior Jamichael Stillwell, 6-foot-2 junior JaCorye Favors, 6-foot-1 senior Angelo Grimes and All-Region senior guard Jamarious Pledger, who averaged 25 points per game last season. Favors is averaging 16.5 points per game so far. Back into the rankings is No. 10 Jeff Davis, who beat Glynn Academy 56-52 in their season opener as Murray State-signee Ja’Queze Kirby had 14 points, 14 rebounds and 9 blocks while sophomore CJ Parker netted 14 points.

Class A-Private No. 1 St. Francis slayed Class 3A No. 1 Pace Academy 69-57 at the Jared Cook Classic, as Xavier-signee Dwon Odom posted 21 points and Jordan Brown scored 19. No. 2 Greenforest blasted ELCA 80-26 and Class 2A No. 5 Glenn Hills 78-48. Drexel-signee Lamar Oden scored 19 and 17 points in the two games. No. 3 Walker had a great week with wins over No. 4 Trinity Christian 77-68 and Class 5A No. 6 Carrollton 78-66. Omar Cooper scored 20 points apiece in the two games. Just like last year, No. 8 Holy Innocents’ has struggled to find a groove, now sitting at 1-3 with one of the best backcourts in the state. They beat Class 3A No. 9 GAC 63-55 but lost momentum in a 60-41 loss to Class 6A No. 8 Lanier at the Jared Cook Classic. Christian Heritage (0-0) drops out of the poll without playing a game, making way for No. 9 Mt. Paran who beat No. 10 Galloway 39-37. 6-foot-4 senior Alex Elliott has been their go-to guy, scoring 17 in the win over Galloway and dumping in 29 in a 60-54 win over Hebron Christian.

No. 1 Treutlen passed an early test in Class A-Public, beating No. 4 Wilkinson County 78-69 behind Kamron Jordan’s 26 points and 19 rebounds. Wilkinson County also lost to Veterans 72-71, but maintains their grasp on No. 4. Defending state champ No. 3 Calhoun County tipped-off their season with an 88-54 drubbing of Randolph-Clay as All-State guard Tykevious Curry totaled 17 points, 3 rebounds and 9 assists.
