The Parkview Tip-Off Classic nearly single-handedly shifted the state rankings in every classification by itself. Six out of the state’s number one ranked teams were in action with numerous other high-profile programs locking horns in Top 10 duels. It was an early season litmus test to see where some teams were and where others need to get before we head into the new year.In what could have been a true Class 7A state championship preview, No. 1 Collins Hill outlasted No. 2 McEachern 52-51 at the Parkview TOC to earn the top spot in the poll. Old Dominion-signee Eden Sample was errantly fouled on a defensive rebound with 1.2 seconds remaining and split a pair of free throws to seal the game. Delaware State-signee Sianny Sanchez-Oliver hit a shot from half court, but it was slightly after the buzzer. Purdue-bound big Sacha Washington had 10 points, 14 rebounds, 2 assists, 4 steals and 4 blocks while battling McEachern’s Jillian Hollingshead, the Georgia-signee going for 15 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 blocks in the loss. Freshman Paris Fillingame played key minutes down the stretch for Collins Hill and gave the Eagles 8 big points. The following day, Collins Hill defeated last week’s Class 4A No. 1 Troup County 40-30 in a game that was tied going into the fourth. No. 3 Woodstock got 26 points from Bridget Utberg in a 56-42 win over two-time defending Class 2A state champion Douglass. No. 6 West Forsyth slides two spots to no fault of their own as No. 4 Cherokee and No. 5 Grayson rise with strong wins. The Warriors won their annual meeting with North Forsyth in the GetMickey Raider Classic championship 38-34. Grayson jumps two spots by winning the Dacula Tip-Off Classic. The Rams edged Class 4A No. 3 Luella 56-54 before beating No. 7 Archer 50-37 in the title game, Tylia Kemp scoring 12 points to go with 6 rebounds and 3 assists while Tournament MVP, South Alabama-signee Nadia Howard tallied 9 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists. No. 8 Campbell drilled Opelika, AL 87-59 before losing to Class 5A No. 1 Forest Park at the Parkview TOC 57-38. Out of the poll are Norcross (1-2) and North Paulding (2-1). The Blue Devils lost 60-52 in double overtime to Class 5A No. 7 Loganville to seal their fate while the Wolfpack just haven’t quite clicked yet, beating 0-3 North Gwinnett 44-39 and South Cobb 55-38, who lost by 48 against Marietta. No. 9 Parkview debuts after an impressive showing at the Tip-Off Classic. They hammered Class 2A No. 4 Josey 63-41 showcasing a deep attack led by Birmingham-Southern-commit Lilly Hart’s 18 points. Samford-signee Sussy Ngulefac had 12 points and 8 rebounds while battling foul trouble. Nadya McCown (12), Mayah Watson-Casimir (9) and Joze Baker (7) combined for 28 points. Earlier in the week the Panthers competed as well as one could hope to against Class 6A No. 1 Westlake, losing 74-57. Up next is a tilt with Class 6A No. 2 Buford, another great test. Also into the poll is No. 10 Marietta. The Blue Devils won their Thanksgiving tournament beating Class 5A No. 8 Hiram 60-49. 5-foot-6 junior Chloe Sterling has lifted Marietta to another level with her move to the states. She’s averaging 17.3 points, 8 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 5.8 steals. The Blue Devils host rival No. 2 McEachern on Tuesday before an upcoming murder’s row of games.

Class 6A No. 1 Westlake dominated Harrison at the Parkview TOC, 76-35 as the starters played only half the game if that. South Carolina-signee Raven Johnson threw multiple lobs to Ta’Niya Latson throughout the game as the Lions feasted in transition. Latson had 19 points while Johnson finished with 12 points, 3 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals. Virginia Tech-commit Brianna Turnage stayed aggressive on offense as a slasher and poured in 15 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 blocks.  No. 2 Buford won the Tabo’s Tip-Off Classic, beating Class 3A No. 7 Lumpkin County 53-40 before holding off host Class 4A No. 1 Jefferson 57-54, the Wolves getting 13 points from Georgia College-signee Ashyia Willis in the win. No. 4 Kell took care of Class A-Private No. 4 Holy Innocents’ 70-58 while No. 5 Langston Hughes slides one spot after a busy week saw the Panthers beat last week’s Class 4A No. 1 Troup County 49-43 at the Parkview TOC as Ta’Mia Stargell and Autumn Phillips scored 11 apiece. Langston Hughes then fell 46-41 to Class A-Private No. 2 St. Francis before winning at Hardaway 57-51. No. 6 Lovejoy moves up after a 57-54 win at Class 4A No. 4 Carver-Columbus. No. 9 Rockdale County is off to a hot start. 5-foot-9 freshman Danielle Carnegie is averaging 16.5 points, 6 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 4 steals per game. Out of the rankings is Sprayberry (0-1). With 6-foot-2 post Anna Vereen out with a broken finger, Flau’jae Johnson hasn’t been able to carry the load. She was held to 8 points in a 66-41 loss to No. 7 Sequoyah. Cracking the Top 10 is No. 10 Cambridge. The Bears play an aggressive style of full court pressure defense and an open four-out offense with a lot of perimeter passing. 5-foot-11 sophomore Jordynn Dudley is a premier slasher. She had 29 points, 3 rebounds, 6 steals and 1 block in a 51-47 win over Walton while Angelina Cofrancesco added 15 points and 5 steals.

No. 1 Forest Park is humming along in Class 5A. The defending Class 6A state champs looked good at the Parkview Tip-Off Classic, hammering Class 3A No. 1 GAC 59-36 and Class 7A No. 8 Campbell 57-38. South Carolina-signee Sania Feagin recorded a triple-double against Campbell with 10 points, 13 rebounds and 10 blocks. No. 2 Woodward Academy was upended by Class A-Private No. 4 Holy Innocents’ 76-69. No. 7 Loganville used double overtime to erase last week’s Class 7A No. 9 Norcross 60-52, Lenior-Rhyne-signee Rose Bone beating the buzzer in overtime to keep the Red Devils alive. No. 8 Hiram is up one spot after wins over Pebblebrook (50-43) and Pope (56-34) before losing to Class 7A No. 10 Marietta 60-49 in the Marietta Thanksgiving Tournament championship.

The top four teams in Class 4A all suffered losses as they challenged themselves in non-region play. No. 1 Jefferson rises to the top of the poll after a second-place finish at the Tabo’s Tip-Off Classic. The Dragons beat Franklin County 84-50 before dropping 57-54 to Class 6A No. 2 Buford. North Georgia-signee Livi Blackstock scored 16 in the loss. No. 2 Troup County is off to an 0-2 start playing stiff competition at the Parkview TOC. They lost 49-43 to Class 6A No. 5 Langston Hughes and 40-30 to Class 7A No. 1 Collins Hill after entering the fourth quarter tied. No. 3 Luella is up a position after rebounding from a 56-54 loss to Class 7A No. 5 Grayson to beat Dacula 51-48 at the Dacula TOC. No. 4 Carver-Columbus, much like Region 2 foe Troup, is off to an 0-2 start. The Tigers fell 57-54 to Class 6A No. 6 Lovejoy.  No. 7 Marist creeps up another space after two more methodical wins. They beat Jones County 33-24 and Northview 59-12. Horrible news came down the pipe as two-time reigning Miss Sandy’s Spiel Kayla McPherson, a North Carolina-signee, has injured her knee and is out for the season, meaning Madison County (1-0) must drop from the rankings even after a 64-53 win over Commerce. McPherson is best known for her 64-point outburst her sophomore season against Hart County. Taking the Red Raiders’ place is No. 10 Baldwin who is scheduled to open the season on Tuesday. Junior Tamia Smith and freshman Madison Ruff lead the way.

Once again, No. 1 GAC has gone out and challenged themselves in Class 3A. The Spartans won the state title with 12 losses as season ago and are off to an 0-2 start after battling Class 5A No. 1 Forest Park (59-36) and Class A-Private No. 3 Mt. Paran (58-42) at the Parkview Tip-Off Classic. No. 2 Johnson-Savannah and No. 3 Beach began their annual reign of terror over Chatham County with blowout wins. The bottom of the poll sees some unrest as Cedar Grove (0-0) and Sonoraville (0-1) drop out. We still await DeKalb County’s return to the hardwood and in a class so competitive, the Saints can’t clog up the rankings for too long with inactivity. Sonoraville lost 52-48 on the road at Dade County. No. 9 Westminster went to the Harvest Hoops Classic and beat Class A-Private No. 9 Trinity Christian 42-33 before losing to No. 8 ELCA 59-52. Quickly breaking into the rankings is No. 7 Lumpkin County.  The Indians went toe-to-toe with Class 6A No. 2 Buford at the Tabo’s Tip-Off Classic before falling 53-40. They followed up with a 57-20 win over Franklin County. Lumpkin County will either sink or swim as they battle Class 7A powers North Forsyth and No. 4 Cherokee this week. No. 10 Sandy Creek slides in after a 3-1 start. If you believe the stats, the Patriots have three players averaging over 13 rebounds per game including 5-foot-3 Jania Hodges, a heptathlete committed to Oklahoma. 6-foot-2 Coastal Carolina-commit Arielle Belinga averages 15 points and 15 rebounds, 6-foot-2 Janae Walker posts 12.8 points and 13.8 rebounds while Hodges averages 11.8 points, 13.3 rebounds and 4.5 assists.

Class 2A No. 4 Josey had a shaky trip to Metro Atlanta, losing 63-41 to Class 7A No. 9 Parkview and beating Washington 57-43 at the Parkview Tip-Off Classic. Senior Deajah Houck has been a bright spot averaging 13.3 points and 4.7 assists. No. 5 Vidalia suffered a 58-29 loss to Statesboro while Fannin County (2-1) drops completely out of the rankings after a 70-45 loss to Gilmer at the ETC Tip-Off Classic. Debuting at No. 8 is Woodville-Tompkins. They drilled Islands (57-22) and Groves (61-18) but really get to see where they stand as they visit Class 3A No. 3 Beach on Tuesday.

Though there is no movement, things are heating up in Class A-Private. No. 1 Hebron Christian survived a scare at the Parkview TOC, edging Newton 61-57. Freshman Sanaa Tripp poured in 25 points in the loss. Hebron was led by Rice-signee Maliah Fisher’s 18 points and 10 rebounds while Samford-bound wing Carly Heidger contributed 16 points and 8 rebounds. No. 2 St. Francis turned back No. 7 Greenforest 51-47 and beat Class 6A No. 5 Langston Hughes 46-41. No. 3 Mt. Paran took care of Class 3A No. 1 GAC 58-42 at Parkview behind Kara Dunn’s 22 points. No. 4 Holy Innocents’ dropped to Class 6A No. 4 Kell 70-58 but bounced back with a 76-69 win over Class 5A No. 2 Woodward Academy. No. 6 Wesleyan beat Johns Creek 53-33 behind Sade Ojanuga’s 15 points and 10 rebounds. No. 8 ELCA defeated Tallulah Falls 46-40 and Class 3A No. 9 Westminster 59-52 at No. 9 Trinity Christian’s Harvest Hoops Classic. The Lions lost 42-33 to Westminster but beat Tallulah Falls 38-35.

No changes occur in Class A-Public. No. 8 Lake Oconee Academy started their campaign with wins over Prince Avenue (59-50) and Oconee County (59-24). Chattanooga-signee Destiny McClendon is averaging 23 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 3 steals through her first two games.
