Just when it appeared as if the Top 3 in Class 7A had separated themselves from the pack, it looks like the third position isn’t as distant from the rest of the field as first perceived.

No. 3 Cherokee maintains their ranking, but the Lady Warriors were defeated in the GetMickey Raider Classic Championship by host No. 4 North Forsyth, who jumps three spots. Cherokee demolished Class 3A No. 4 Dawson County 61-26 in the semifinals while the Raiders edged Brookwood 60-51. A rematch from last year’s 31-27 Cherokee win, Caroline Martin exploded with 28 points on 7 threes to carry the Raiders past the Warriors. No. 6 McEachern shocked the state in a 66-61 win over Class 4A No. 1 Carver-Columbus, boosting the Indians up four spots. North Paulding (4-2) exits the Top 10 after a nail-biting 60-58 loss to newly ranked Class 6A No. 9 South Cobb. The Wolfpack are replaced by No. 10 Woodstock. The Wolverines are led by a young backcourt which features All-State sophomore Bridget Utberg (22 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 3.3 apg, 5 spg) and freshman Karson Martin (11.5 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 2 apg, 2.7 spg). The addition of 6-foot-3 Savannah Casey from Mt. Paran has paid dividends as the junior has averaged 7.7 points, 7.3 rebounds and 2.8 blocks. Sophia Singer, a 6-foot Western Carolina-signee, averaged 8 points and 5.7 rebounds before injuring her leg. Her potential return will help dictate Woodstock’s ceiling this season.

Class 6A has some shuffling in the Top 5 as No. 3 Glynn Academy moves up two spots after beating Savannah’s best programs, Class 3A No. 1 Johnson-Savannah (52-44) and Class 3A No. 3 Beach (52-35). UGA-signee Zoesha Smith is averaging 21.6 points and 12.6 rebounds thus far. No. 4 Dacula claws up one spot after scoring a 43-40 win over No. 5 Valdosta, who drops two spots. The Falcons lost to Class A-Private No. 4 Wesleyan 57-46 at the Dacula Tip-Off Classic while the Wildcats lost 66-37 to Class 5A No. 1 Buford before blowing a 17-0 lead against Dacula. No. 8 Stephenson suffered a bad 57-37 loss at Parkview but remain in the rankings after Douglas County (2-2) and Harrison (3-2) both depart. Douglas County was blown out against Class A-Private No. 5 Mt. Paran (58-25) and Class 5A No. 6 Southwest DeKalb (44-25). Harrison fell short to Class 4A No. 4 Americus-Sumter 64-39 and to Newton 61-53.  Debuting are No. 9 South Cobb and No. 10 Richmond Hills. South Cobb upset last week’s Class 7A No. 9 North Paulding 60-58. Kennesaw State-signee Jodi Mullins has averaged 20.5 points per game. Richmond Hill scored a 63-27 win at Liberty County in their latest result.

Class 5A No. 1 Buford won the Dacula Tip-Off Classic by beating Class 6A No. 5 Valdosta 66-37 before Furman-signee Tate Walters scored a game-winning layup to sneak past Class A-Private No. 4 Wesleyan 50-49 in the title game. Walters finished with 13 points while Blair Wallis and Sarah Viti scored 12 apiece. No. 6 Southwest DeKalb rises three spots after wins against three teams who have spent time in the Top 10 in their respective classification: Woodland-Stockbridge (51-46), Douglas County (44-25) and Class 2A No. 5 Douglass (61-38). Eagle’s Landing (1-2) is out of the poll following a 50-40 loss at Class 4A No. 2 Spalding. Into the rankings is No. 10 Griffin. The Bears have received major contributions from freshmen Leah Turner and Aaliyah Duranham.

No. 1 Carver-Columbus remains atop the heap in Class 4A, but it looks like their stranglehold over the classification might be loosening just a bit following a 66-61 loss to Class 7A No. 6 McEachern. Over in Region 1, No. 4 Americus-Sumter is the talk of the town as they burst into the rankings. Preseason All-State guard Trinity Jones has moved in from Fitzgerald to team up with Jelissa Reese, a 5-foot-10 Troy-signee, to give the Panthers a potent attack. They drilled Harrison 64-39. No. 10 Flowery Branch is down four spots after losses to Norcross 56-41 and Grayson 51-39, who No. 3 Luella beat 52-49 and 57-52, respectively. No. 7 Troup County beat last week’s Class A-Public No. 1 Greenville 67-62 in double overtime. Sandy Creek (0-3) is unranked after an 0-2 showing at the InsiderExposure Thanksgiving Classic. No. 9 Marist replaces the Patriots. The War Eagles bear Oconee County 56-23 and Marietta 48-41.

Even after a 52-44 loss to Class 6A No. 3 Glynn Academy, No. 1 Johnson-Savannah still stakes claim to the throne in Class 3A. No. 2 Jefferson survived some more scares, outlasting Class 4A No. 5 Druid Hills 43-39 and romping last week’s Class A-Private No. 6 Lakeview Academy 60-37. No. 9 Ringgold plummets four spots after losing 51-50 to Signal Mountain, TN and 48-45 to Northwest Whitfield. Hart County (0-1) completely exits following a 54-46 loss at rival Elbert County. They are replaced by No. 7 Fannin County. The Rebels edged Pickens 80-73 and Gilmer 40-39 at the ETC Classic. 5-foot-8 junior Abby Ledford averaged 17 points throughout the three-game tournament and was named All-Tournament team along with 5-foot-10 senior Morgan Holt and 5-foot-10 senior Saidee Collins. They will face their toughest test yet when they travel to No. 4 Dawson County on Tuesday. The Tigers lost to Class 7A Cherokee 61-26 before bouncing back to beat Brookwood 69-60.

No. 3 Putnam County rises another spot in Class 2A after a 59-27 win at Greene County. All-State 5-foot-6 senior Jashanti Simmons is pouring in 26.8 points, 8.3 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 4 steals per game. All eyes will be on Augusta for another year as No. 9 Josey breaks into the Top 10 after a 60-22 win over Landmark Christian and the departure of Rockmart (1-2) who lost 54-40 to Rome and is without sharpshooter Megan Little who has an ACL sprain and will be out a few more weeks. Josey, led by Amani Jones (13.7 ppg), will play No. 2 Laney on Tuesday. Judging by past history, Josey’s stay in the Top 10 might be short thanks to the Wildcats. Laney has owned Josey, winning 31-straight against the Eagles dating back to 2006-07. For Josey to ever be taken seriously as a title contender, they will need to prove they can beat Laney first. Fitzgerald (0-1) is out of the rankings after a 69-23 loss at Class 6A No. 5 Valdosta. Into the poll is No. 10 Union County. 6-foot-1 sophomore Ava Hunter is averaging 22.5 points and 12 rebounds. The Panthers are the third team from Region 8 in the poll. No. 3 Putnam County and No. 4 Rabun County are currently the teams to beat. Rabun County knocked Lakeview Academy from the Class A-Private rankings with a 60-53 win.

No. 1 St. Francis went 0-2 at the BallNPrep Thanksgiving Bash, losing to Hoover, AL (84-67) and Hazel Green, AL (62-56), but remain No. 1 in Class A-Private. No. 3 Holy Innocents’ held off Greenforest 40-35 at Holiday Hoopsgiving. Sitting at 3-4, Greenforest might be the most dangerous team not in the Top 10 that no higher seed will want to face come tournament time. All four losses have come against ranked opponents and once they get into region play, expect the Eagles to take flight. No. 4 Wesleyan defeated Class 6A No. 4 Dacula 57-46 before losing in the final seconds to Class 5A No. 1 Buford 50-49. No. 5 Mt. Paran wrecked Douglas County 58-25 and pulled away from Woodland-Stockbridge 59-44.  Lakeview Academy (4-3) drops from the rankings after losses to Class 2A No. 4 Rabun County (60-53) and Class 3A No. 2 Jefferson (60-37). No. 10 Trinity Christian debuts for the first time in school history. Undefeated at 6-0, junior Anna Dénes has been the catalyst for the offense. She went for 33 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals in a 63-50 win over Westminster while freshman Madison Morge collected 22 points and 4 steals in a 51-41 win over Heard County.

There is a new No. 1 in Class A-Public as No. 1 Wheeler County takes over. The Bulldogs blew past Claxton 72-43 and Savannah Country Day 63-28 while No. 2 Greenville lost in overtime to Shaw 73-66 and in double overtime to Class 4A No. 7 Troup County 67-62. No. 5 Calhoun County, No. 6 Bowdon and No. 9 Wilcox County all suffered losses to bigger schools.
