A busy month of December showcases will and have already begun to help shape the rankings heading into 2024.

Big Class 7A games were played at the Tournament of Champions. No. 1 Grayson defeated No. 6 Osborne 72-58 behind Purdue-commit Gicarri Harris’ 19 points and UGA-commit Jacob Wilkins’ 17. No. 4 Wheeler lost to Class 6A No. 1 Alexander 71-59, dropping two spots. No. 2 McEachern toppled Class 4A No. 3 Holy Innocents’ 80-57 while No. 3 Berkmar beat Class A D-II No. 4 Greenforest 51-45 after handling Peachtree Ridge (3-4) 66-62. The Lions are out of the poll on a four-game losing streak, going 0-3 last week with losses to Class 5A No. 7 Decatur (55-46) and Class 6A No. 9 Lee County 56-48 at the Tournament of Championships. No. 5 Newton edged debutant No. 9 Buford 64-60 at TOC after the Wolves cruised against Harrison 64-44 earlier in the week.

Class 6A No. 1 Alexander scored a 71-59 win at Class 7A No. 4 Wheeler at the Tournament of Champions, Kennesaw State-commit Braedan Lue collecting 21 points and 12 rebounds followed by 16 points apiece from Allen Stoddard and Gregory Dunson. Dunson earned a Kennesaw State offer after the game. No. 2 Shiloh took down Kimball, TX 74-66 at TOC, Jullien Cole with 32 points and 8 rebounds while Tylis Jordan double-doubled with 26 points and 10 rebounds. No. 6 Langston Hughes leaps three spots with Top 10 wins over Class 5A’s No. 3 Dutchtown (65-50) and No. 7 Decatur (70-65). No. 10 South Paulding slips a pair of spots, outlasted by Class A D-II No. 1 Christian Heritage 68-59 at the Sandy’s Spiel Northwest Georgia Invitational as Andrew LaVigne scored 19 points and David Williams added 17. South Cobb (3-3) falls out after three consecutive losses, their worst a 57-46 defeat at the hands of 1-8 North Springs. No. 9 Lee County emerges in the poll with a 56-48 win over last week’s Class 7A No. 7 Peachtree Ridge at the Tournament of Champions.

There’s some movement among the top four of Class 5A as No. 3 Dutchtown’s opening salvo toward a Region 2 title saw the Bulldogs protect home floor in a 53-47 win over No. 4 Eagle’s Landing, dropping the Eagles two spots while Dutchtown rose one position. Prior to their key win, the Bulldogs lost 65-50 to Class 6A No. 6 Langston Hughes. No. 6 Chapel Hill destroyed Hiram, continuing the Hornets’ nightmare season, 85-50. No. 7 Decatur rises two spots with a 55-46 win over last week’s Class 7A No. 7 Peachtree Ridge, but a 70-65 loss at Class 6A No. 6 Langston Hughes. No. 8 Tucker falls two places after losing to Westlake 63-54. No. 9 Winder-Barrow barely hangs onto their spot after losing to previously unranked Monroe Area 68-61, but the Doggs were without star guard Jerrin Samuel. Tri-Cities (2-3) is out of the Top 10 following a 74-70 loss to Pebblebrook at the Tournament of Champions. No. 10 Jones County debuts after a 2-1 week saw the Greyhounds win at Union Grove 58-54.

Only two teams lost in Class 4A, meaning there is just one minute change near the bottom of the poll. Near the top, No. 2 McDonough crushed Woodland-Stockbridge 80-54 before beating Class 3A No. 3 Cedar Grove 50-41 at the Tournament of Champions, Keenan Gray leading the way with 27 points. No. 3 Holy Innocents’ suffered an 80-57 loss to Class 7A No. 2 McEachern at TOC. No. 6 Walnut Grove survived against East Hall 83-81 while No. 8 Fayette County faltered against county rival Class 3A No. 1 Sandy Creek 57-35, dropping a spot. No. 7 Central-Carrollton tore apart a wounded Adairsville team at the Sandy’s Spiel Northwest Georgia Invitational jumping out to a 30-6 lead before coasting 64-47 as Khaven Cochran poured in 20 points. No. 9 Seckinger has found a go-to guy early on in the season. The Jaguars netted wins over Clarke Central (68-54) and Cherokee Bluff (71-62), Carter Watkins scoring 25 and 22 points, respectively.

Class 3A continues to fluctuate below No. 1 Sandy Creek who earned a 57-35 win at rival Class 4A No. 8 Fayette County, James Madison-signee Micah Smith netting 16 points. No. 2 Douglass balloons up two spots highlighted by a 58-56 win at Norcross in the Corky Kell Classic. No. 3 Cedar Grove lost to Class 4A No. 2 McDonough 50-41 at the Tournament of Champions but holds onto their spot and sees No. 4 Cross Creek fall below them, dropping two spots after beating Class 2A No. 3 Butler 57-49, but boat raced at Class 2A No. 2 Westside-Augusta 95-62. No. 5 Hebron Christian is up a spot with a 67-54 win over Trinity Christian while No. 6 Richmond Academy moves up two places with a pair of wins over Silver Bluff, SC. No. 7 Dougherty is down two spaces with a 53-45 loss to Toombs County at the Cam Sports Classic. No. 9 Groves inches up following a 1-1 week, losing 48-44 at Class A D-I No. 4 Savannah before topping No. 10 Long County 65-61, pulling down the Blue Tide three spots. Johnson-Savannah (2-4) departs from the rankings with narrow losses at Class A D-II No. 2 Portal 55-50 and in the Sun Bash Classic to Episcopal School, FL 52-46 as the Atomsmashers wait to get healthy. No. 8 Monroe Area debuts after a 68-61 win at Class 5A No. 9 Winder-Barrow and a 50-45 survival against Social Circle, Trip Griffith double-doubling in both games with 22 points and 12 rebounds followed by 16 points and 16 rebounds.

Class 2A sees no changes, but there were some interesting results. No. 2 Westside-Augusta ran over Class 3A No. 4 Cross Creek 95-62. No. 3 Butler lost 57-49 at Cross Creek but bounced back with a 52-44 win at Grovetown. No. 4 Dodge County snuck past Bleckley County 64-62 as Will Jordan scored 28 points on five three-pointers. No. 7 North Cobb Christian saw Gabe Bolden bury eight threes en route to 34 points in a 70-52 win at Mt. Paran.

In Class A D-I, No. 1 Mt. Vernon lost 67-65 to Calvary Christian, FL at the Marshall County Hoopfest. No. 2 Darlington locked down Oxford, AL 47-41 before cutting down River Ridge 70-61 at the Sandy’s Spiel Northwest Georgia Invitational, Joe Womack netting a game-high 22 points. No. 3 King’s Ridge is up a spot after a marathon win at No. 9 Mt. Pisgah, outlasting the Patriots 91-82 in triple overtime as Jaydon Cole erupted for 36 points. No. 4 Savannah saw Jermaine Edwards score his 1,000th point in a 48-44 win over Class 3A No. 9 Groves before losing at Class A D-II No. 3 Calhoun County at the Cam Sports Classic 80-66. No. 5 St. Francis was hammered by Class A D-II No. 1 Christian Heritage 79-51 but beat No. 6 Paideia 65-54 after the Pythons beat South Gwinnett 43-41 and lost at Druid Hills 65-64. No. 8 Oglethorpe County falls a spot with a 50-43 loss at Athens Christian. No. 10 Temple holds tight after a pair of losses in Rome. The Tigers lost 67-50 at Model before nearly digging themselves out of a 15-point hole against Calvary Day at the Sandy’s Spiel Northwest Georgia Invitational, losing a wild game in overtime 78-71 as Tavarea Williams led the comeback effort with 22 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 6 steals, hitting six threes.

No. 1 Christian Heritage is off to a strong start in Class A D-II. The favorites crushed Class A D-I No. 5 St. Francis 79-51 and held off Class 6A No. 10 South Paulding 68-59 at the Sandy’s Spiel Northwest Georgia Invitational, Trevecca Nazarene-signee Jax Abernathy netting the 2,000th point of his career, finishing with 29 against the Spartans. No. 2 Portal took down last week’s Class 2A No. 9 Johnson-Savannah 55-50 while No. 3 Calhoun County raced past Class A D-I No. 4 Savannah 80-66 at the Cam Sports Classic. No. 4 Greenforest fell 51-45 to Class 7A No. 3 Berkmar at the Tournament of Champions. No. 5 Mitchell County knocked off No. 8 Randolph-Clay 55-47. No. 6 Macon County was upset by Cairo 59-52 at the Cam Sports Classic. Charlton County (1-1) exits following a 42-39 loss at Brantley County and is replaced by No. 10 Turner County who won at Dooly County 59-52.
