It is finally game week for the Sandy’s Spiel Showcase presented by Redline Girls Basketball Club, December 9 at Grayson High School. Georgia’s top girls event will feature eight games including an incredible 15 ranked teams which will surely shake up the polls as Christmas break nears.

Class 7A No. 1 Grayson steamrolled Class 3A No. 2 Wesleyan 69-49 behind Georgia Tech-signee Danielle Carnegie’s 25 points. No. 3 Norcross rises a spot following wins over Class 4A No. 4 Hardaway 39-34 and Class 4A No. 1 Baldwin 51-40 at the Corky Kell Classic, Mercer-signee Jania Akins breaking out with 29 points. No. 7 Cherokee topped Class 6A No. 8 Sequoyah 57-46 as Wofford-signee Toni Warren collected 16 points and 8 rebounds. No. 9 Hillgrove went 0-2 but maintains their position in the poll. The Hawks lost 61-59 to Class 4A No. 2 Holy Innocents’ and 55-51 to Class 6A No. 2 New Manchester. Through their first eight games of the season, Hillgrove is already 2-3 against ranked opponents.

Class 6A No. 2 New Manchester slipped by Class 7A No. 9 Hillgrove 55-51 behind Jocelyn Faison and freshman Devin Furgess’ 13 points apiece. No. 3 Langston Hughes held off Class 5A No. 7 Creekside 75-71 on the road. No. 5 Marist slips a spot after having to rally past Etowah 53-34 after trailing 23-18 at the half and leading just 34-32 heading into the fourth while No. 4 North Forsyth bounces up two spots with a 63-38 win against South Forsyth. No. 6 Woodward Academy was pounded at Class A D-I No. 2 Galloway 81-60 to sink a place. No. 8 Sequoyah is down following a 51-47 win over Class 4A No. 9 East Forsyth and a 57-46 loss at Class 7A No. 7 Cherokee. No. 10 Creekview outlasted a Grace Ridley-less Class 5A No. 5 Dalton in overtime 50-42 at the Sandy’s Spiel Northwest Georgia Invitational, Ashlynn Bleisath finishing with 13 points, 7 rebounds and 2 blocks while Marissa Mason netted 12 points and Amilya Taft dominated the paint with 5 points, 18 rebounds and 8 blocks.

The middle of Class 5A continues to shuffle around while the top stays cemented. No. 2 Union Grove remained perfect scoring two key Region 2 victories, beating Jones County 49-39 and shaking off a sluggish start at No. 4 Warner Robins to win 60-57 as Jordan Brooks scored 26 points to mark the Wolverines’ fourth win over a Top 10 opponent. Warner Robins actually moves up two spots with the strong showing and a 61-48 win against Peach County. No. 5 Dalton went 0-2 with North Georgia-signee Grace Ridley sidelined with an ankle injury, falling in double overtime at Heritage-Catoosa 72-63 and in the Sandy’s Spiel Northwest Georgia Invitational to Class 6A No. 10 Creekview 50-42 in overtime, Emma Hefner (12) and Jolie Wingfield (11) pacing the Catamounts in scoring. No. 7 Creekside holds tight after a pair of losses, defeated at Westlake 70-63 and losing to Class 6A No. 3 Langston Hughes 75-71, freshman phenom C’India Dennis pouring in 34 and 31 points, respectively. No. 8 Jefferson creeps up two spots with wins at North Hall (55-38) and Lambert (57-50). Cartersville (2-2) tumbles all the way from No. 5 to unranked after a 73-51 loss to Harrison, their second 20-plus point loss this season. Region 7 rival No. 10 Hiram replaces the Hurricanes after a 6-0 start to the year, their latest victory 58-47 over Paulding County.

In Class 4A, No. 1 Baldwin fell at the Corky Kell Classic at Class 7A No. 3 Norcross 51-40 while No. 2 Holy Innocents’ won at Class 7A No. 9 Hillgrove 61-59. No. 3 Trinity Christian was overpowered at Class 3A No. 1 Hebron Christian 98-52. No. 4 Hardaway lost to Norcross 39-34 while No. 9 East Forsyth fell at Class 6A No. 8 Sequoyah 51-47.  North Oconee (3-1) couldn’t survive a week in the Top 10, bounced out after losing 56-41 at North Hall. No. 10 Starr’s Mill sneaks into the rankings to make their debut after racing past last week’s Class 3A No. 10 Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe at the Sandy’s Spiel Northwest Georgia Invitational 57-43, Brooke Godown netting 17 points while Sunny McQuade double-doubled with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

There’s only one change in Class 3A this week coming at the bottom of the poll. At the top however, No. 1 Hebron Christian crushed Class 4A No. 3 Trinity Christian 98-52. No. 2 Wesleyan couldn’t keep pace with Class 7A No. 1 Grayson, downed 69-49 in Loganville. No. 4 Pickens cracked Fannin County 56-29 while No. 5 Dawson County had an impressive win at home at the Route 400 Classic, outlasting Class A D-I No. 4 Athens Christian in overtime 63-54 as Abby Slaton poured in 23 points. No. 6 White County rolled past Class 2A No. 10 Union County 62-36 as Emma Lightsey netted 21 points and Kylie Watkins recorded a triple-double. No. 7 Cross Creek secured a 59-55 overtime victory against Class 2A No. 3 Butler. Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe (2-2) falls out after losses to Heritage-Catoosa (58-40) and newly ranked Class 4A No. 10 Starr’s Mill 57-43 at the Sandy’s Spiel Northwest Georgia Invitational, Christen Collins finishing with 21 points and 12 rebounds against the Panthers. No. 10 Mary Persons resurfaces with a pair of blowout wins.

The landscape of Class 2A has changed a bit with last year’s state runner-up Banks County (3-3) sinking out of the rankings after a 50-42 loss to Commerce. No. 3 Butler holds onto their spot after losing 59-55 to Class 3A No. 7 Cross Creek in overtime. No. 8 Dodge County slips two places with a close 45-41 win over Bleckley County. No. 7 Model climbs two places with victories over North Murray (54-33) and Temple (48-40). No. 10 Union County split this past week and once again maintains their spot in the rankings due to their strength of schedule. At 2-4, the Panthers have already played five games against ranked opponents. Union County notched a 59-46 win over Class A D-II No. 6 Towns County before falling to Class 3A No. 6 White County 62-36. Cracking into the poll is No. 9 Murray County fresh off a 55-41 win at Northwest Whitfield.

In Class A D-I, No. 1 St. Francis defeated Class A D-II No. 1 Greenforest 57-49. No. 2 Galloway rode Georgia Tech-signee Tianna Thompson to 39 points in an 81-60 win over Class 6A No. 6 Woodward Academy. No. 4 Athens Christian fell in overtime at Class 3A No. 5 Dawson County in the Route 400 Classic, 63-54. Lamar County (1-3) sinks from the poll following a pair of losses at the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic, defeated by Weddington, NC 61-58 and TL Hanna, SC 43-32 after beating Class A D-II No. 8 Lake Oconee Academy 65-46. No. 8 Trion pops into the Top 10 off to a 4-1 start with recent wins on the road at Ridgeland (52-39) and Coosa (55-41).

The shoe has dropped in Class A D-II, previously No. 1 ranked SACA seeing their team ruled ineligible after vacuuming up an entire roster via the transfer market, making way for No. 1 Greenforest to become the top team in the classification, coming off a competitive 57-49 loss to Class A D-I No. 1 St. Francis. No. 2 Taylor County suffered a 65-32 loss at Peach County. No. 5 Early County topped No. 7 Randolph-Clay 60-43. No. 6 Towns County lost 59-46 at Class 2A No. 10 Union County before bouncing back wit ha 48-45 win at Tallulah Falls. No. 8 Lake Oconee Academy fell to last week’s Class A D-I No. 8 Lamar County 65-46. No. 10 Hawkinsville is back in the poll with a 71-15 win over Twiggs County.
