With winter storms now hopefully behind us, rankings across all classifications are starting to see some change following MLK events and region showdowns.In Class 7A, No. 3 Milton challenged the No. 11 ranked team in the nation Camden, NJ at the Hoophall Invitational and fell short 63-55. No. 4 Berkmar went 2-0 at the Quincy Shootout while No. 7 McEachern struggled back home in Georgia, slipping two spots after losing 82-79 at No. 9 East Coweta and falling at the River City Basketball Classic to North Broward Prep, FL 72-35. East Coweta fails to move up a spot however due to a 74-49 loss to Class 5A No. 1 Eagle’s Landing earlier in the week. No. 8 Grayson defeated South Gwinnett 53-46 after taking a 66-63 loss to Archbishop Carroll, DC at the St. James MLK Classic. No. 10 Archer also beat South Gwinnett, 60-46 at the Josh Okogie MLK Classic.

The top of Class 6A tightens by the week. No. 1 Wheeler lost their third game of the season to out-of-state competition, 91-88 to Marshall, VA at the St. James MLK Classic. The Wildcats rebounded with a trio of wins back home, highlighted by victories over Allatoona (76-69) and Pope (74-54). No. 2 Shiloh remained perfect, beating No. 4 Buford 53-43 albeit the Wolves were without top scorer Alahn Sumler. The Generals also scored wins over Winder-Barrow (63-44) and Meadowcreek at the Josh Okogie MLK Classic, 70-63. Buford bounced back with a 74-71 win at Lanier, Sumler returning after missing four-straight games, finishing with 28 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals. No. 3 Osborne suffered their first loss of the season to No. 6 Kell 78-69 but stays put thanks to a win over Class A-Private No. 3 Galloway 66-64. No. 5 Westlake knocked off No. 8 Tucker 68-59 to sink the Tigers a pair of spots. No. 7 River Ridge is in firm control of Region 7 after completing a sweep of Sequoyah with a 71-57 win. Centennial (15-3) slips out following a 69-61 loss to Sequoyah. No. 10 Alexander resurfaces with wins over Class 5A No. 4 Chapel Hill (62-44), South Paulding (66-54) and East Paulding (75-37).

No. 1 Eagle’s Landing is still ahead of the pack in Class 5A, beating Class 7A No. 9 East Coweta 74-49 at the MLK Dream Challenge before dropping Jones County (13-8) from the poll with a 65-39 blowout.  No. 2 Jonesboro topped Mundy’s Mill 72-50 behind Yannis Woods’ triple-double of 19 points, 15 rebounds and 10 blocks. No. 3 St. Pius X loses a spot with a 56-54 overtime loss to Decatur. No. 4 Chapel Hill had a 3-1 week, losing to Class 6A No. 10 Alexander 62-44 at the J4 Sports MLK Holiday Classic but closing strong with a 71-70 win at Langston Hughes. No. 6 Tri-Cities is reeling, losing 74-70 to Class 4A No. 1 McDonough at the MLK Dream Challenge but more surprisingly, 64-62 at Woodward Academy to tumble two places making them losers of three of their last four games. No. 8 Southwest DeKalb was topped by returnee No. 10 Lithonia 44-32.

There’s shake up in Class 4A below No. 1 McDonough who beat last week’s Class 5A No. 4 Tri-Cities 74-70 at the MLK Dream Challenge. No. 5 Jefferson plummets three places with a 67-48 loss at debutant No. 10 Madison County before rebounding with a wild 58-56 win over Cedar Shoals. Madison County could have potentially opened higher in the poll but they were upended at North Oconee 45-41. No. 2 Monroe is in the driver’s seat in Region 1 after earning wins over Dougherty 60-47 and Bainbridge (16-4) 63-54 dropping the Bearcats out of the Top 10. No. 7 Druid Hills avenged an earlier loss to Miller Grove 49-39 on the road behind Nicholas Majors’ 20 points to move into a tie for second-place in Region 6 behind No. 8 Marist who lost 67-46 at Baylor, TN before netting a pair of region wins over Hapeville Charter (58-49) and Stephenson (57-43).

Class 3A saw No. 2 Sandy Creek win at No. 4 Salem 66-56 led by Vic Newsom’s 17 points and Micah Smith’s 16. No. 3 Cross Creek rises two spots thanks to a 54-48 win at Burke County and more importantly No. 5 Sumter County losing 63-54 at Peach County to fall two slots. No. 8 GAC is the latest program to add firepower in the middle of the season, getting Athan Pohlman to transfer in from Brentwood Academy, TN. The 6-foot-1 junior is averaging 13 points per game over his first three games.

Class 2A No. 2 Pace Academy won at Class A-Private No. 3 Galloway 67-60 behind Cincinnati-signee Josh Reed’s 33 points and 11 rebounds. No. 3 Westside-Augusta is red-hot rolling into their rematch against No. 5 Butler, their only loss of the year. The Patriots beat Peach County 75-62 at the Battle of the Boarders while Butler won their fifth-straight by beating Putnam County 60-40. No. 7 Thomasville hangs tight after a 49-47 loss to Lowndes. No. 8 Rabun County survived Elbert County 67-66 on Cooper Welch’s game-winning layup with 4.2 seconds left. Lander-signee Connor McKay poured in 30 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the way. Northeast-Macon (12-8) drops out after losing 75-58 to No. 4 Washington County and 76-74 in overtime to Westside-Macon. For the first time this season, No. 10 Model gets the nod for the rankings. The Blue Devils pounded Gordon Central 57-30.

In Class A-Private, No. 1 Greenforest blew past ELCA (79-59) and WD Mohammed (68-39). No. 2 Christian Heritage is up a spot after beating No. 9 Walker 68-65. The Wolverines also lost 65-45 at No. 7 Darlington before bouncing back with a 56-44 win at St. Francis. No. 3 Galloway took hard-fought losses to Class 6A No. 3 Osborne (66-64) and Class 2A No. 2 Pace Academy (67-60). No. 4 Mt. Pisgah climbs two spots with a 62-61 win over No. 5 King’s Ridge, dropping the Tigers three spots. MJ Winter scored 30 points followed by freshman Micah Tucker’s 21. No. 8 Providence Christian beat Mill Creek 76-71 while No. 10 First Presbyterian Day gained control of Region 1 with a 56-45 win over Deerfield-Windsor.

Outside of the Top 3, it’s starting to become a complete jumble in Class A-Public. No. 1 Drew Charter beat Langston Hughes 65-63 and boat-raced Bowdon 104-61. No. 2 Social Circle clobbered Commerce 107-44. No. 3 Dublin crushed Dooly County 79-45. Now the fun starts. No. 5 Manchester is down a spot after losing to a now healthy Chattahoochee County 53-50 on the road as Dex Holloman scored 13 points to lead the Panthers. No. 4 Calhoun County is up a slot with a 62-58 win against Pelham. No. 6 Lanier County holds tight after beating No. 10 Turner County 75-73, but laying an egg against Charlton County 63-45. No. 7 Mitchell County rises three spots riding a seven-game winning streak. No. 8 Warren County was upset at Aquinas 65-58 as was No. 9 Portal, losing 85-78 in overtime at Metter.
