Competitive regions are figuring out seeding for the region playoffs while influencing the current day Top 10.No. 2 North Forsyth is rolling in Class 7A, in full control of Region 6 after beating No. 10 West Forsyth 58-40. The Wolverines are down five spots after also blowing a double-digit lead and turning the ball over for a game-winning layup at the buzzer to Lambert 44-42, missing Tennessee Tech-signee Cayla Cowart who is still out with a sprained ankle. No. 5 Harrison earned a pair of wins over Marietta (56-42) and Hillgrove (50-47). Tift County (14-5) lasted just one week in the poll, bounced after losses at Lee County 55-54 and at Class 3A No. 5 Sumter County in overtime 57-52. No. 9 Woodstock is back in following a 69-58 win over Roswell.

Class 6A No. 2 Lovejoy recorded a strong 70-46 win at Class 5A No. 4 Griffin. No. 3 Buford struggled without Ava Grace Watson, scratching out wins over Dacula (60-56) and Habersham Central (33-24). No. 9 Brunswick tumbles four spots with a 59-54 loss at Bradwell Institute. No. 5 Langston Hughes took down Class 5A No. 3 Forest Park 57-47. No. 7 Sprayberry picked up a 75-65 win at Keenan, SC. No. 10 Rome won 46-36 at Dalton.

Does anyone want to rise into the Top 3 in Class 5A? The glass ceiling has been the four-spot before in-region cannibalization sets in. No. 1 Woodward Academy got 29 points from UGA-signee Sydney Bowles in their 70-64 win at No. 3 Forest Park. The Panthers also lost 57-47 at Class 6A No. 5 Langston Hughes. No. 2 Maynard Jackson stays put with a 54-47 loss at New Manchester. Below Woodward Academy, six ranked teams suffered losses. No. 4 Griffin is up a spot and was in prime position to crack the Top 3 after beating No. 10 McIntosh 53-35 on the road, but were blown away by Class 6A No. 2 Lovejoy 70-46. McIntosh, who is down three spots, started their week with a promising 58-48 win over No. 5 Union Grove, but were upset in overtime at Whitewater 67-58 to start their slide. No. 7 Northside-Columbus was on the verge of a big climb, but they were upset by Harris County 52-51, further complicating Region 2. The Patriots only slip one spot however thanks to a 52-49 win over Central, AL to close the week. No. 6 Warner Robins is up two spots above the wreckage, winning at Veterans 57-47. No. 8 Greenbrier gains ground by completing a sweep of Loganville, 46-39 at the Inferno. No. 9 Stockbridge avoided a pitfall against Woodland-Stockbridge, beating their rival 43-38.

The Top 4 in Class 4A has housed the same teams for the majority of the season but has seen movement here and there with the two and three spot. No. 3 Jefferson slides one spot after pulling away from Chestatee (15-7) 58-41, but failing to close out Class 2A No. 2 Elbert County, falling in overtime at the Inferno 64-56. Chestatee beat East Hall 53-49 on the road earlier in the week but slides out ahead of a crucial week against former Top 10 ranked North Oconee and Madison County, both on the road. No. 5 Marist is patiently waiting in the five-hole, a spot they have called home for eight consecutive weeks. The War Eagles won 38-31 at Druid Hills while No. 6 Arabia Mountain won at Stephenson 52-47 setting up a rematch this Friday for a potential share of first-place heading into the region tournament. No. 7 Pickens defeated Heritage-Catoosa 46-35. Westover (13-8) got caught in the Region 1 blender, losing 43-40 to Dougherty and 36-32 to returnee No. 9 Bainbridge. Heading into the final week of the regular season, Region 1 is a complete logjam with Bainbridge, Dougherty, Monroe and Westover all tied for first-place at 5-3 with Thomas County Central sitting at 4-4.  Debuting in the poll is No. 10 Hardaway. The Hawks have no signature wins but are young, long and talented. They beat Spencer 48-36 and have an opportunity to shake the state this Saturday at home as they welcome No. 2 Carver-Columbus in for a rematch of their prior 80-71 defeat.

Class 3A is reforming itself in the middle of the poll, but at the top No. 1 Lumpkin County still looks untouchable in region play, drilling No. 10 North Hall 68-42, Averie Jones scoring 25 points and Mary Mullinax dumping in 21. The Trojans survive the week with a 47-45 win over Dawson County. No. 3 Cross Creek has a clear path to a perfect region record after winning at Thomson 61-40.  No. 5 Sumter County is up a spot after toppling last week’s Class 7A No. 10 Tift County 57-52 in overtime. No. 6 East Jackson won at Oconee County (14-5) 48-38 to knock the Warriors from the Top 10. No. 7 Tattnall County is on the verge of seizing control of Region 1 after sweeping No. 8 Pierce County 53-52. Returning to the Top 10 since dropping out in Week 7 is No. 9 Murray County. The Indians blew out Rockmart 84-34 behind Mattie Nuckolls’ 20 points and Ella Dotson’s 17.

No. 1 Rabun County shored up their interior defense in Region 8-2A, scoring wins against two of the best bigs in the classification beating Banks County 73-39 and Union County 60-41. Emmanuel-signee Gracie Deetz posted 19 points and 7 rebounds against Union County while Carley Haban averaged 16 points per game on the week. No. 2 Elbert County avenged an earlier loss to last week’s Class 4A No. 3 Jefferson 64-56 in overtime as Terrace Hester poured in a career-high 37 points. No. 3 Fannin County won 62-51 at Union County. If at all possible, Region 3 got that much more interesting this past week. No. 4 Northeast-Macon hangs onto their spot but did lose 52-50 at No. 6 Dodge County, the Squaws shooting up two spots after securing three nice wins, also winning on the road at Lamar County 54-52 and at last week’s Class A-Public No. 8 Telfair County 67-62. No. 5 Washington County rises two spots after drilling Laney (10-5) 88-67, quickly dropping the Wildcats from the Top 10. Returning to the poll is No. 10 Heard County who hammered Haralson County 47-20 and hosts No. 9 Callaway on Friday with a chance to draw even atop the Region 5 standings after losing 45-40 in their first meeting.

There were some big Top 10 matchups in Class A-Private. No. 1 Holy Innocents’ defeated No. 5 Hebron Christian 75-58. No. 4 Wesleyan won at Hebron Christian 57-50, Desiree Davis returning to action with 15 points. No. 3 Mt. Paran pounded No. 10 Darlington 66-37 but the Tigers bounced back with a 42-39 win over Calhoun as Emmaline Ratledge scored 15 points. No. 8 Calvary Day holds onto their spot following a 75-49 loss at Bulloch Academy, the Cavaliers waiting for the return of Mahkayla Premo who is out with a bone bruise.

Class A-Public refuses to settle down with region play. Region 3 once again sets the stage as No. 3 Bryan County lost 46-40 at No. 6 Claxton, who climbs four spots and is now in second-place behind No. 4 Screven County. Elsewhere, No. 7 Taylor County plummets four spots with a 54-42 loss to No. 8 Schley County, who could have rose higher than one spot if they weren’t upset by Manchester 45-40 to end the week. No. 2 Lake Oconee Academy moves up two spots, trouncing a weak Region 8. The Titans dismantled top competition Commerce 47-24 on the road. Out of the poll is Preseason No. 1 Mt. Zion-Carrollton (17-6). The Eagles lost 46-41 at Trion and are replaced by returnee No. 10 Dublin, back in the rankings for the first time since Week 9.
