Region Brackets

Region tournaments are now among us…for some. As of February 8, here is who IS NOT holding a region tournament: 5-7A, 4-7A, 3-7A, 2-7A (only a 4/5 game), 4-6A, 3-6A, 3-5A, 5-5A, 6-5A, 5-4A, 4-4A, 4-2A, 3-2A, 1-2A, 4-1A Private and 7-1A Private. Some of these regions will begin their tournaments this week while others still have a week left of the regular season. The one thing we do know for sure is that the state tournament is scheduled to start on February 23rd and 24th. Remember, I will be here with you every step of the way to try and collect region brackets, scores and even All-Region teams as the information becomes available. Please help me help you by providing me region tournament brackets and scores on Twitter @KyleSandy355 and also by emailing me at [email protected]. Thank You!

There is movement in the middle of Class 7A as No. 5 Marietta climbs a spot after beating No. 7 North Paulding 57-47 to take over first-place in Region 3, dropping the Wolfpack three spots. North Paulding also suffered a 77-51 loss at Harrison. Brookwood (12-7) departs after an 81-75 loss to Grayson. Back in the poll is No. 10 Woodstock who has won five-straight. No. 8 Statesboro will try to polish off an undefeated regular season when they travel to 17-3 Brunswick on Tuesday. No. 10 Rockdale County is scary at the bottom of the poll and could be on the verge of jumping soon. The Bulldogs won 85-65 at Grovetown before demolishing Heritage-Conyers 77-24.

No. 4 Cass remained perfect in Class 5A as they swept No. 8 Hiram 50-46, Londaisha Smith recording 14 points and 10 rebounds while Claire Davis collected 13 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals. Aniyah Lee scored 16 points in No. 6 Southwest DeKalb’s 60-32 win over Decatur but the Panthers finished their week with losses to Class A-Private No. 4 St. Francis 75-44 and Class 6A No. 3 Buford 62-44. No. 9 New Manchester visits No. 3 Maynard Jackson on Tuesday.

Due to inactivity No. 6 Carver-Columbus drops three spots in Class 4A. Up four places is No. 3 Marist who avenged an earlier loss to No. 7 Arabia Mountain with a 52-24 statement win, sinking the Rams three positions. Courtney Kidd (18), Ellie Kinlaw (16), Allianne Clark (14), Deshona Gaither (11) and North Georgia-signee Livi Blackstock (10) led a deep overpowering attack in No. 4 Jefferson’s 77-39 win over East Hall. Debuting is No. 9 Mt. Zion-Jonesboro. The Bulldogs won at No. 10 McDonough 49-36.

Class 3A has lived up to the billing as being one of the most competitive classifications Georgia has to offer. Defending state champion GAC (7-6) is out of the Top 10 following losses to No. 6 Westminster 58-54 and Cedar Grove 49-48. The win moves Westminster up four spots as they also earned victories against Sandy Creek (63-47) and Cedar Grove (53-35).
