Hoops4Hunger got the holiday showcase season tipped off in style with terrific Top 10 matchups helping reshape the polls.

Class 7A No. 1 Grayson laid the hammer down, blasting Class 4A No. 3 Trinity Christian 79-46 before walloping No. 3 Carrollton 64-39 to drop the Trojans a spot in the poll after Georgia Tech-signee Danielle Carnegie tossed in 17 points at Hoops4Hunger. The Trojans lost earlier in the week to No. 2 McEachern 46-38, the Indians climbing two spots with a 44-39 win over Rabun Gap under their belt before losing to Class 5A No. 2 Union Grove 48-44 at Hoops4Hunger. Coach Gene Durden’s wish to drop from the Top 10 won’t be granted as No. 5 Buford bounced back at the Gladiator Showcase pulling away in the fourth quarter to knock off No. 6 North Paulding 62-49, Ohio State-signee Ava Grace Watson netting 31 points to push the Wolfpack down three spots in the poll. North Paulding also was defeated by Class 6A No. 1 River Ridge 63-42. No. 8 Milton split at the InsiderExposure Thanksgiving Classic, beating Gainesville, FL 55-33 but dropping to American Heritage, FL 62-45. No. 9 Hillgrove slides three spots, upset by Pope at the Raider Classic 53-49 behind Abbey Bensman’s 19 points and 13 rebounds, but securing strong wins over Class 3A No. 5 Dawson County (50-39) and Class 5A No. 4 Dalton (55-53). No. 10 Newton drops a pair of places with a 59-46 loss to Class 5A No. 1 Maynard Jackson at the Mustang Thanksgiving Classic.

In Class 6A, No. 1 River Ridge suffered a loss to Bradley Central, TN 67-57 before rebounding with a 63-42 win over last week’s Class 7A No. 3 North Paulding 63-42, Makalya Roberson dumping in 18 points and earning a Columbus State offer after the game. No. 2 New Manchester split at Hoops4Hunger, narrowly losing to Hoover, AL 66-64 but thumping last week’s Class 4A No. 3 Stockbridge 67-50 as Jocelyn Faison went for 21 points. No. 6 North Forsyth captured the Raider Classic Championship, surviving a shorthanded Class 3A No. 5 Dawson County in overtime 58-55 before racing past Pope in the title game 61-46 after falling behind 15-2. Gabbie Gliatta scored 22 points in the championship while London Weaver averaged 18.5 points over the final two rounds. No. 8 Veterans falls a spot with a pair of losses at Hoops4Hunger, beat by Class 5A No. 2 Union Grove 57-49 and Class 3A No. 3 Carver-Columbus 72-51. No. 10 Creekview slips in the rankings after pulling away from Denmark 58-38 but losing at Class 3A No. 4 Pickens 60-42.

The top two teams of Class 5A have cemented themselves as the teams to beat with strong non-region wins. No. 1 Maynard Jackson went 2-0 at the Mustang Thanksgiving Classic with wins over Sparkman, AL (51-43) and Class 7A No. 10 Newton (59-46). No. 2 Union Grove’s always brutal early season schedule has unfazed the veteran group, netting great wins at Hoops4Hunger against Class 6A No. 8 Veterans 57-49 and Class 7A No. 2 McEachern 48-44, Alexis Parson stepping up with 13 points against the Indians. No. 3 Midtown won the Roswell Rotary Veterans Appreciation Invitational Championship, beating Walton 56-51 in the semifinals and Riverwood 53-34 in the title game as Devin Bockman was named Tournament MVP. No. 4 Dalton holds tight to their position, drilling Darlington (56-24) and Adairsville (70-29) before losing 55-53 to Class 7A No. 9 Hillgrove at Hoops4Hunger. Calhoun (1-3) plunges out of the poll with losses at the Jackson EMC Thanksgiving Tournament to Class 4A No. 7 Chestatee 43-33 and George Walton Academy 46-27. No. 10 Jefferson debuts after winning the Jackson EMC Thanksgiving Tournament Championship on their home floor, erasing an early deficit to defeat George Walton Academy 55-48 before a white-knuckle win over Class 4A No. 7 Chestatee 55-52 in the title game, Emeri Billings scoring 20 points including the go-ahead jumper with :32 seconds left.

Everyone in the Class 4A Top 10 was defeated this past week leading to some movement but not any seismic changes as no one was really able to capitalize. No. 1 Baldwin overpowered last week’s Class 2A No. 2 Central-Macon 61-41 and Class A D-II No. 2 Greenforest 63-34 before falling to Class A D-I No. 1 St. Francis 65-60 at Hoops4Hunger. Over the three-game span, Mount St. Mary’s-signee Madison Ruff averaged 16.7 points per game to pace the Bravettes. No. 2 Holy Innocents’ went 0-2 at the InsiderExposure Thanksgiving Classic, losing to Blanche Ely, FL 60-45 and Bolles, FL 54-50. No. 3 Trinity Christian rises a spot with a 69-53 win over Collins Hill but a 79-46 loss to Class 7A No. 1 Grayson at the Parkview Tip-Off Classic. No. 4 Hardaway sneaks up a slot with a 62-55 win against Campbell before losing 63-56 to Class 3A No. 7 Cross Creek at Hoops4Hunger. No. 5 Stockbridge slips two places after a 0-2 week at H4H, losing 49-38 to Bob Jones, AL before falling to Class 6A No. 2 New Manchester 67-50. No. 6 Southwest DeKalb went 1-2 at the Sparks and Sharks Thanksgiving Classic in California while No. 7 Chestatee finished runner-up in the Jackson EMC Thanksgiving Tournament, beating last week’s Class 5A No. 8 Calhoun 43-33 and losing to Class 5A No. 10 Jefferson 55-52 in the championship, West Georgia-signee Riley Black with 19 points and 8 rebounds while battling foul trouble. No. 9 Fayette County barely hangs onto their position in the Top 10 and actually moves up a spot due to their tough scheduling, losing 61-57 to Archer and 55-32 to Bob Jones, AL at Hoops4Hunger. Walnut Grove (1-2) and Northwest Whitfield (2-1) are casualties this week. The Warriors went 0-2 at the Billy Wade Classic, defeated by Class A D-I No. 4 Athens Christian 68-45 and Jones County 44-43. The Bruins were outpaced by Signal Mountain, TN 59-44. No. 8 North Oconee breaks into the poll for the first time. While their earlier 45-43 win over Calhoun doesn’t look quite as impressive as it did on opening weekend, the Titans are still dangerous especially if Laura Frances Willis is able to return this season from a foot injury to join explosive scorer Aiyanna Peavy in the backcourt. North Oconee avoided a pair of pitfalls at the Andy Landers Classic, scoring wins over Oconee County 43-42 and Elbert County 50-35, Oklahoma softball-commit Kendall Wells recording 18 points and 9 rebounds in the win against the crosstown rival Warriors. No. 10 East Forsyth debuts behind first-year head coach Reed Tipton. The Broncos pushed Class A D-I No. 3 Rabun County for a half before falling 64-47 and then crushed Habersham Central 75-28 as freshman Hollyn Hicks collected 17 points and 13 rebounds at the Piedmont University Hardwood Classic.

Class 3A saw No. 2 Wesleyan top Blackman, TN 48-43 and Providence Christian, TN 63-20. No. 3 Carver-Columbus went 2-0 at Hoops4Hunger receiving 28 points from Jazmin Thornton in a 76-57 win over No. 7 Cross Creek and later beating Class 6A No. 8 Veterans 72-51. The Razorbacks rebounded after their loss to the Tigers, edging Class 4A No. 4 Hardaway 63-56 to crawl up one space. No. 4 Pickens went undefeated at the Pickens Thanksgiving Invitational, knocking off Class 6A No. 10 Creekview 60-42 to close the week, UVA-Wise-signee Caroline Mullins winning Tournament MVP. No. 5 Dawson County settled for fourth-place at the Raider Classic with Morgan Chester and Ava Roberson sidelined. The Tigers pushed host Class 6A No. 6 North Forsyth to the brink, falling in overtime 58-55 as Abby Slaton netted six threes en route to a game-high 28 points. The Tigers lost the following day to Class 7A No. 9 Hillgrove 50-39. No. 8 Monroe lost 57-50 to Class A D-I No. 4 Athens Christian at Hoops4Hunger, freshman phenom Kie’Aundria Acree finishing with 30 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 2 steals. Mary Persons (2-1) exits after a 61-41 loss to Thomas County Central at the Charles Cooper Invitational. No. 10 Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe moves into the rankings behind dynamic cousins Christen and Christal Collins. Christen dropped 32 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 4 steals in a season-opening 67-54 win over Class A D-I No. 8 Lamar County at the Sandy’s Spiel Tip-Off Classic on November 18.

Class 2A is evolving below No. 1 Mt. Paran who went 2-0 at the InsiderExposure Thanksgiving Classic beating Palm Bay, FL 48-44 and Blanche Ely, FL 68-41 before edging Rabun Gap 52-48 at Hoops4Hunger as Campbell-signee Ciara Alexander posted 17 points and 13 rebounds. No. 4 Central-Macon falls two spots with a 61-41 loss at Class 4A No. 1 Baldwin while No. 8 Banks County plummets three more spots after losing 51-34 to Starr’s Mill at the Jackson EMC Thanksgiving Tournament, failing to click with North Georgia-signee Addison Hoard still injured. No. 5 Josey picked up wins over defending state champs Kell (64-26) and Brookwood (48-40) – albeit completely different rosters from a season ago. No. 9 Model held on at the Lady Tigers Thanksgiving Classic winning against host Adairsville 48-40 and Trion 51-48. No. 10 Union County hangs tight yet again. At the Piedmont University Hardwood Classic the Panthers breezed by Habersham Central 65-25 before building a 19-point lead against Class A D-I No. 3 Rabun County in the championship, but melting in the second half against the press and squandering a 66-52 lead after three quarters to lose 82-80. Paula Robertson (23), Ariel McCarter (20) and Kamryn Mull (17) powered the upset-minded Panthers and further proved they are a threat at the bottom of the poll.

There is no movement in the Class A D-I poll but No. 1 St. Francis looks like one of the best teams in the entire state right now – bad news for the rest of the competition. The Knights beat up Rabun Gap 75-45 and Rickards, FL 68-25 before toppling Class 4A No. 1 Baldwin 65-60 at Hoops4Hunger. No. 2 Galloway split at the InsiderExposure Thanksgiving Classic, losing 49-40 to Colonial, FL before seeing Georgia Tech-signee Tianna Thompson erupt for 42 points in a 78-49 victory against Bishop Moore, FL. No. 3 Rabun County knocked off Class 4A No. 10 East Forsyth 64-47 before rallying in stunning fashion to shock Class 2A No. 10 Union County 82-80 for the Piedmont University Hardwood Classic Championship, erasing a 19-point deficit and 14-point hole to start the fourth quarter as Western Carolina-signee Lucy Hood poured in a career-high 41 points while Presbyterian-signee Ellie Southards fought foul trouble and collected 24 points and 8 rebounds. No. 4 Athens Christian continued their warpath with wins over last week’s Class 4A No. 8 Walnut Grove (68-45), Monroe Area (79-4), Rockdale County (59-35) and Class 3A No. 8 Monroe (57-50).

Class A-II sees no changes but there is still a lot to be figured out with the status of No. 1 SACA after having to pull out of tournaments due to their investigation. No. 2 Greenforest scored wins over Centennial (62-25) and Duluth before losing at the Mustang Thanksgiving Classic to Class 4A No. 1 Baldwin 63-34 and Sparkman, AL 60-43. No. 3 Taylor County opened their season with four crisp wins, topping Stratford Academy 48-37, Tattnall Square 48-41, Crawford County 68-7 and Upson-Lee 68-30.
