With showcase season nearing its close, teams have just a few games left to make a statement in their non-region schedule.

Two new teams debut in the Class 7A Top 10 at the bottom of the poll. No. 3 Norcross fell 51-43 to Class 6A No. 1 River Ridge while No. 4 Carrollton defeated Class 4A No. 7 Trinity Christian 66-50 on the road. Cherokee (6-2) drops out of the poll with a 57-21 loss a Class 6A No. 5 Marist, failing to score a point in the fourth quarter. No. 7 Buford beat Class 4A No. 10 Starr’s Mill 70-36 at the Academy Sports Showcase. Campbell (4-4) is bounced after a 67-54 loss at Marietta. No. 9 Harrison jumps into the rankings after wins over Sprayberry 66-60 and Paulding County 60-30. The Lady Hoyas don’t have a signature win just yet but do hold victories over Class 5A preseason ranked opponents Cartersville (73-51) and Calhoun (51-35) along with a 47-38 decision over 7-2 North Cobb and a lone loss coming at No. 5 Buford 63-38. No. 10 Lowndes creeps into the poll an undefeated 9-0 with their best two wins coming against Brunswick, 69-37 and 50-36. Sophomore Kayla Jackson (11.8 ppg, 8.3 rpg) and juniors Kaci Demps (11.5 ppg) and Aryana Thomas (10.3 ppg) power the Vikettes.

There is only one slight change coming at the bottom of Class 6A, but at the top No. 1 River Ridge shook off sluggish second and third quarters to win at Class 7A No. 3 Norcross 51-43, freshman Finley Parker netting 20 points. After scoring 17 points against the Lady Blue, Kayla Cleaveland poured in 22 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 blocks in a rout of Hoover, AL 80-57. Makalya Roberson added 18 points and 11 assists. No. 5 Marist stonewalled last week’s Class 7A No. 7 Cherokee 57-21, holding them to under 10 points in the second half. No. 7 Veterans got 30 points from Gabby Minus in a 77-65 win over Class 2A No. 4 Central-Macon at Bear Brawl. No. 9 Tift County rises a spot with a 56-42 win over newly ranked Class 2A No. 10 Sumter County. No. 10 Lakeside-Evans drops a position, beaten by North Augusta, SC for the second time, 36-26.

Class 5A No. 2 Union Grove played Class 3A No. 1 Hebron Christian the closest anyone has all year, losing 64-37 on the road as Nadea Smith scored 12 points. No. 7 Bradwell Institute rises a spot following a 38-35 win against No. 8 Ware County who slips three places even with a 62-38 win against Class A D-II No. 4 Clinch County. The Tigers could have jumped even higher, but struggled in their subsequent games, beating 3-4 Coffee in overtime 57-55 and winning over 3-7 Glynn Academy 61-55. Harris County (8-2) slips from the Top 10 with a 64-48 loss at Class 4A No. 4 Hardaway. No. 10 Jones County breaks into the rankings riding a five-game winning streak. The Greyhounds’ three losses have come against Top 10 opponents, Class 6A No. 7 Veterans (44-33), No. 2 Union Grove (49-39) and No. 4 Warner Robins (43-38).

No. 1 Baldwin remains atop Class 4A following their 55-45 win at Class A D-I No. 7 Swainsboro, Mount St. Mary’s-signee Madison Ruff collecting 18 points and 6 assists. No. 4 Hardaway beat last week’s Class 5A No. 10 Harris County 64-48, Akilah Shelton and Mikayla Johnson scoring 20 points apiece. No. 6 Chestatee moves up a spot after a pair of road wins over formerly ranked region opponents, beating Walnut Grove 54-48 and East Forsyth 72-67, West Georgia-signee Riley Black scoring 39 points. No. 7 Trinity Christian continues to drop with Ivona Djikanovic and Elyse Norris sitting out. The Lions were beaten by Class 7A No. 4 Carrollton 66-50. No. 8 Cherokee Bluff climbs two spots with a 71-32 win at East Hall while No. 9 Fayette County beat McIntosh 51-41 and No. 10 Starr’s Mill lost at Class 7A No. 5 Buford 70-36 at the Academy Sports Showcase. Cherokee Bluff’s only loss has come against undefeated Class 7A No. 8 Mill Creek. The Bears have won by an average of 41.9 points per game.

Class 3A No. 1 Hebron Christian beat Class 5A No. 2 Union Grove 64-37 ahead of their trip to Phoenix for the Nike Tournament of Champions. No. 2 Wesleyan held off Class A D-I No. 1 St. Francis 73-66, Texas-signee Bryanna Preston piling in 22 points, 15 rebounds and 3 assists. No. 4 Pickens crushed No. 7 Dawson County 68-41 to push the Tigers down two spots in the poll. No. 6 Cross Creek won 48-46 at North Augusta, SC but lost at home to Class 2A No. 2 Thomson 58-47. Monroe (6-4) exits with a 63-46 loss at Class 2A No. 10 Sumter County. No. 10 Mary Persons reenters the rankings with a pair of wins.

In Class 2A, No. 2 Thomson made a statement in the CSRA winning at Class 3A No. 6 Cross Creek 58-47 behind Ty’Leishiah Latimore’s 21 points. No. 4 Central-Macon lost 77-65 to Class 6A No. 7 Veterans but beat No. 9 Dodge County 50-37 at Bear Brawl as Alaya Grane posted 21 points, 8 rebounds and 5 steals. Union County (4-5) drops out with a 68-50 loss at Fannin County. No. 10 Sumter County debuts after losing 56-42 at Class 6A No. 9 Tift County but beating last week’s Class 3A No. 10 Monroe 63-46.

Class A D-I sees some shuffling in the middle of the rankings. No. 1 St. Francis holds tight after losing 73-66 at Class 3A No. 2 Wesleyan, freshman Giaunni Rogers and seniors Nya Young and Austin Peay-signee Sa’Mya Wyatt all scoring 16 points apiece. No. 2 Galloway got trounced in Alabama with a pair of 30-point losses, beat by Hoover 60-30 and Bob Jones 70-40. No. 5 Oglethorpe County secured a 58-40 win over Class A D-II No. 8 Lake Oconee Academy as Denim Goddard netted 18 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists while surpassing the 1,000-point threshold in her career. No. 7 Swainsboro played Class 4A No. 1 Baldwin tough, losing 55-45 and beat Dublin (8-1) 55-44 to bounce the Irish out of the poll, but saw their week end on a sour note upset at East Laurens 45-44. No. 8 Mt. Pisgah sinks two spots with a surprising 54-50 loss to Kell. Trion (8-2) is out of the poll after being stunned at Bremen 48-29. No. 6 Lamar County comes screaming back into the Top 10 riding a five-game winning streak, their most recent win a 66-63 victory over 10-1 Arabia Mountain at the War Lodge Invitational, Shakiria Foster pouring in 27 points. No. 10 Heard County debuts after winning the SMI Christmas Classic Championship, scoring wins over Central-Carrollton (42-40), Villa Rica (67-54) and Cass (46-42) in the title game.

In Class A D-II, No. 3 Montgomery County won at East Laurens 49-47 while No. 4 Clinch County was beaten by Class 5A No. 8 Ware County 62-38 to drop a spot. No. 5 Terrell County won 46-43 at Seminole County (6-2) to drop the Indians from the Top 10, also beaten 50-47 by Bainbridge. No. 7 Towns County lost 53-25 at Commerce while No. 8 Lake Oconee Academy fell 58-40 at Class A D-I No. 5 Oglethorpe County, Ansleigh Padgett scoring 21 points while Georgia Bosart finished with 15 points, 14 rebounds and 6 assists. No. 10 Warren County becomes the third team from Region 8 in the poll following behind Towns County and Lake Oconee Academy. The dynamic sophomore duo of Courtney Bray (20.9 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 2 apg, 2.9 spg) and Jailee Allen (15.7 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 2 apg, 3.7 spg) ignites the Screaming Devils. Warren County’s only loss came against Class 2A No. 2 Thomson in the season opener 62-34.
