With summer ball winding down, here’s an early preview of some of the top players in the GHSA’s newly formed Class 5A.
2029 5-9 W Michelle Lloyd – Ola
Physically mature lefty has takeover ability with her three-level scoring. Shoots the ball with ease from well beyond the arc. Has a compact repeatable stroke which leads to consistent results. Lloyd has a growing offensive arsenal off the dribble with a nice handle. She is willing to post up smaller guards, using her strength to score around the rim. Can finish with power moves or finesse turnarounds. Routinely is a threat to put up 20+ points a game.

2027 6-2 C Lindsey Kopacek – Starr’s Mill
Habitual double-double producer averaged 19.5 points, 15.4 rebounds, 1.3 steals and 4 blocks per game during a dominant junior season. Boasts great size with grown woman strength, a punishing post that scores through contact with ease. While hitting the glass and scoring inside are her forte, Kopacek shows signs of a growing perimeter game with extending shooting range. Florida Atlantic, West Florida, Jacksonville State, East Tennessee State and Louisiana Tech all offered over the summer.

2030 5-10 G Melody Ashford – Northview
Expect the freshman to quickly establish herself as one of the top players in Georgia’s 2030 class and an immediate impact maker in Class 5A. Melody has a well-rounded game. A big guard, Ashford scores in a variety of ways. She’s a good shooter who can make things happen off the dribble, capable of finishing with either hand. Her activity is felt outside of just scoring the ball. Melody rebounds, facilitates and defends at a high level, consistently filling out the box score. Ashford is on her way to establishing herself as a D-I prospect.
2027 5-9 PG Sofia Pihera – St. Pius X
A four-year varsity starter, Sofia is an experienced veteran lead guard. Pihera is a skillful playmaker, an exceptional passer who likes to make plays downhill with her court vision. Sofia is comfortable leaping in the air to deliver cross court passes and has the touch to drop off pocket passes to teammates stepping in from the dunker spot. Where Pihera’s game has steadily improved is her outside shooting. Sofia fills it up off the catch from the three-point line and is continuing to become more elusive off the dribble when creating space to shoot.
2028 5-6 G Zoe McCurry – Cartersville
The steady play of Zoe McCurry helped guide Cartersville to a Class 4A Final Four appearance. Zoe upped her production across the board her sophomore season, averaging 11.9 points, 4.4 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2.9 steals. McCurry plays with great poise. She handles the ball, leads vocally and is a gritty defender. Offensively, Zoe’s three-point shooting is a major strength. She gets great rotation as she snaps her wrist on her follow through. McCurry shot 70-221 (32%) from beyond the arc. With her ability to play both the one and the two, Zoe can torch defenses either off the dribble or off the catch.
2027 5-7 G Aubriyana Camp – Dalton
Augusta, Young Harris, Liberty and North Georgia have all offered this summer as D-II and D-I programs jockey for the high-octane scorer. Camp is the most prolific scorer in Northwest Georgia. Aubriyana makes it look easy with her ability to get her shot off the bounce – a threat to pull-up from deep, score from the mid-range or craftily get all the way to the rim. Camp has numerous 40-point outbursts over the course of her career. Her polished offensive game should allow her to earn early playing time at the next level.

2028 5-5 G Mackenzie Setchel – North Oconee
Now in a feature role, Mackenzie will have ample opportunity to shine for the Lady Titans. Flagler and Furman offered in June. Setchel is quick and instinctual on the floor, a good defender that can guard the ball and shoot into passing lanes. Mackenzie is a potent offensive threat. She’s creative with the ball, quick to get to the rim with either hand. Setchel’s jump shot is a separator. She shoots the three very well. Listed at 5-foot-5, Mackenzie’s long arms coupled with her feel and effort allow her to play bigger than her size.
2028 5-11 W Leah Pollack – North Oconee
Leah possesses one of the best motors in Georgia. Pollack is consistently involved in plays, quickest on the floor to get to rebounds, loose balls and steals. The ball magnet is extremely effective in the full court press, a disruptive defender. Leah’s a three-level scorer. Her mid-range shot has been one of her strengths but her range has lengthened out to the three-point line more and more consistently. Pollack’s energy leads to robust stat lines as she influences games across the board.
