Class 7A

A wiry wing, Hasahnn Reynolds will try to replicate the success he saw in Florida at Immokalee, a school with over 1,800 students, the equivalent of a 6A school in Georgia. Reynolds averaged 17.3 points, 6.4 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.3 steals per game as a junior. Reynolds can knock down the open three, hitting 45-of-138 attempts (33%). Reynolds has the length to defend the perimeter and help out on the glass. Having a knack for scoring, as a sophomore Reynolds netted 19.2 points per game. He suites up with 17U AC Georgia.

With a potent 2018 class gone, Duluth will benefit from the addition of 6-foot point guard Jalyn Hickman. The senior ball handler broke out his junior season at Gaitlinburg-Pittman, TN where he averaged 22.5 points, 5.4 rebounds and 6.2 assists. Hickman should be a plug-and-play guard for Coach Cabral Huff, who now welcomes in a 1,000-point scorer.

6-foot-4 wing Elijah “Malik” Wilson and 6-foot-6 post Sean-Pierre Akers-Kennedy move into Mountain View. Wilson comes in from Collins Hill. He has nice length and a good looking jump shot. He can tend to fall in love with the three-ball while hunting his shot. Wilson brings over some perimeter defense to pair with his solid offensive game. Akers-Kennedy is a banger from Lindbergh, MO. At the very worst, he is a physical space eater. Akers-Kennedy has enough touch to knock down the 15-foot baseline jumper.

With the urge to play on the perimeter, 6-foot-6 Sam Hines transfers to Wheeler after helping St. Francis to the Class A-Private title game last season. As a sophomore, Hines averaged 12.1 points, 7.1 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.3 steals as the Knights’ top post option. Hines will try to find a new redefined role with a rebuilding Wheeler roster.

Norcross adds 6-foot-5 senior shooting guard Isaac Martin. A highly touted freshman that started at McEachern, Martin spent the past two seasons as a role player at Wheeler. He has enviable size and a nice shooting stroke, but Martin hasn’t blossomed into a star yet. He will be an important piece for Norcross on the perimeter as a floor spacer and a lengthy defender.

Stackhouse Elite has been very kind to Meadowcreek over the past few seasons and now another player finds their way into Mustang territory as 4-star guard Damian Dunn will try to help the reigning Class AAAAAAA champs repeat. A 6-foot-4 senior, Dunn averaged 17.5 points, 6 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.4 steals at Kinston, NC. Dunn will provide a scoring presence on the perimeter that can take the load off Jamir Chaplin.

After starting out at Rockdale County and subsequently moving to Richard Hardy Memorial School in Tennessee, 6-foot-7 senior Devin Evans is back in Georgia for his final season at Duluth. Evans posted 22 points, 15 rebounds, 4 assists and 1 block per game in Tennessee and has garnered interest from Georgia Southern and Georgia State. His versatility will play a key role in Duluth’s success this year as an inside-outside combo forward.

Andrew Thomas-Brown departs Whitefield Academy for Campbell where he has a chance to showcase his inside-out game. Thomas-Brown was a Second Team All-Region 6B-A selection as a sophomore after averaging 9.3 points and 6.5 rebounds. He picked up a North Florida offer in late June.

DeKalb County’s leading scorer, 6-foot-1 senior combo guard Jevon Tatum, is expected to attend Grayson according to family. Tatum averaged 18.3 points and 1.9 steals per game at Tucker as a savvy scoring-minded guard. Tatum excels at pushing the ball in transition but also is a talented scorer in the half court that shot 34% from deep. He will bring toughness, ball handling and the ability to get a bucket alongside athletic guards Deivon Smith and Reco Hallmon Jr.

Cal-commit Charles Smith IV joins his third school in 12 months after starting at La Lumiere in Indiana before gaining eligibility immediately at McEachern half way through the season. The Game Elite product departs Powder Springs for fellow Cobb County power Wheeler. At 6-foot-5, Smith is a jump shooter that works the three-point line and mid-range. He is athletic and quick enough to attack the rim as well. Smith provides a floor stretcher and a presumable go-to-guy after being a third option at McEachern.

Region 7-A West First Team selection Jaden Harris sets sails for Norcross after a successful freshman campaign at Stratford Academy. Rumors swirled about where Harris would attend his freshman season, but he ultimately stayed home. Harris is a big 6-foot-3 combo guard that should earn minutes right away as a part of a talented stable of backcourt members.

A big physical wing unable to break the starting rotation at McEachern, Devin Gordon transfers to Pebblebrook where he should see an opportunity for big minutes. Gordon is a good rebounder at 6-foot-5 that also possesses a skill set to score from the perimeter.

Sharpshooter Cam Rowland departs North Gwinnett for Mountain View to form one of the stronger backcourts in Gwinnett County with Nahiem Alleyne, Elijah Wilson and Jaws Razeq. Rowland, 6-foot-1, averaged a team-high 12.5 points per game last season and is known for his perimeter shooting.

6-foot-7 First Team All-State big man Malachi Rhodes marks the fourth transfer to Wheeler this offseason and the third from the Game Elite program. Rhodes averaged 14.5 points, 10.6 rebounds and 1.1 blocks as he helped lead Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy to their best record in school history and a Final 4 berth in Class A-Private. Rhodes will be forced to bounce from the block to the perimeter as he joins 6-foot-10 move-in Rodney Howard. On paper, Wheeler should have one of the best rosters in the entire state and an elite D-I frontcourt with Rhodes, Howard (Ole Miss) and McEachern Transfer Charles Smith IV (Cal).

Rising 6-foot-4 junior Josh Smith is on his third school in three years as he leaves Holy Innocents’ for Grayson. Smith averaged 13.1 points, 7.2 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.6 steals and 1.2 blocks for the Golden Bears en route to being named First Team All-Region 5-A.

Class 6A

Douglas County adds Class AAAAA Freshman of the Year and Best Shot Blocker Omarion Smith from Lithia Springs. The 6-foot-4 post has impeccable timing, swatting away 6.7 shots per game to go along with his 6.2 points and 5.9 rebounds. If he is able to grow 2-3 more inches, we might be talking about a Division I defensive presence. He moves to Douglas County to play with his brother Jeremiah.

Cornelius Hawkins brings length, versatility and upside to the Alexander perimeter as a swingman. He has been described as a smooth scorer with a high IQ and good court vision. He could provide a nice running mate alongside rising junior guard Jaylon Brown and a defensive and rebounding presence with senior center Brady Spence. He runs with 17U AC Georgia.

Chris Lango moves in from Roselle, New Jersey where he started and averaged 12.2 points per game. He will have an opportunity to help out in the backcourt right away.

Evans adds some length and paint presence in 6-foot-6 senior Dajuante Williams (Josey) and 6-foot-5 junior forward Chevez Trask (Greenbrier).  Williams has started to gain some steam over the spring with his play with 17U Carolina Pressure. The long athlete has rebounded well and protected the rim while showing an improving offensive skill set. He averaged 10.2 points, 6.9 rebounds, 2.1 steals and 2.8 blocks at Josey. Trask provides some football toughness to the interior. His physicality allows him to carve out space under the basket, making him a threat on the offensive glass. At the very least he will provide effort and toughness in the post.

Hailing from Jamestown, VA, Jarontez Garrett moves down south to a North Atlanta program which suddenly has a lot of momentum after clawing their way to the Elite Eight. The 5-foot-7 point guard will team up with 5-foot-9 All-State Second Team selection Messiah Thompson to form one of the quickest backcourts in the classification. Garrett has played with SBC this offseason, growing a connection with fellow Warriors Sam Jennings and Jalen Bates. Garrett averaged 16 points per game in Virginia. He has a quick first step to get past defenders with a floater in his arsenal to finish. The Warriors should be a tough team to rattle with the ball handling addition of Garrett to Thompson.

Alexander gets a shot in the arm with the addition of former region rival Malik Battle. A former Douglas County standout that was All-Region First Team and All-State Honorable Mention brings over his 15-point-per-game average across the city. Battle is an efficient scorer at 6-foot-2 that drilled 40% (41-of-103) from the three-point line. His ability to score at all three levels bolsters an already talented Alexander backcourt.

Mundy’s Mill acquires bruising 6-foot-4 senior post Demarcus Fannin. Fannin will be an immediate impact maker in the paint for the Tigers. The strong wide body knows how to score around the basket. He has good footwork with his back to the basket and likes to use various up-and-unders to free himself. Fannin is adept at rolling to the hoop on screens and has good hands to catch and finish on the move.

Tucker sees 6-foot-5 junior wing Jermontae Hill transfer in from Grady. Hill earned Region 6-AAAAA Second Team honors after averaging 12.2 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. Hill has garnered some major interest over the summer while playing with Team AJ Bouye and has picked up offers from Missouri, Kansas State and Texas Tech.

Ayden Watson leaves Holy Spirit Prep to return back to his home school Sequoyah. The 6-foot-4 sophomore will bring some much needed height and athleticism to the Chiefs front court. Watson can play multiple positions as a combo forward and provide energy.

6-foot-4 junior Demetrius Rives leaves Drew for Tri-Cities after being named Clayton County Underclassman of the Year, All-Clayton County First Team and Region 4-AAAAAA Third Team as a sophomore. The versatile wing averaged 15 points, 8.4 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game. With the graduation of Eli Lawrence, Rives will fit in alongside senior point guard DaMarcus Johnson and reigning Class 6A Freshman of the Year Peyton Daniels.

A true “OG” of the Sandy’s Spiel Transfer List, Koby Isaac completes the rare feat of playing for four different schools in four years. Norcross to Southwest Atlanta Christian to Westlake to Creekside. Isaac averaged 9 points per game for the Lions as a junior.

Isaiah Scott breaks up a nice stable of talent as he transfers from Bradwell Institute to Region 2-AAAAAA rival Richmond Hill. On his third school in three years, the 6-foot-4 wing is a smooth scorer that averaged 11 points and 4.2 rebounds in his first year in the GHSA.  Scott has a scoring touch from all three levels and some sneaky athleticism.

Class 5A

After failing to record a .500 record last season at King’s Ridge and tallying a 40-40 mark in his three seasons on varsity with the Tigers, 6-foot-6 Class A-Private Second Team All-State selection Eric Coleman Jr. moves into Buford. The Wolves have two of the most versatile forwards in the class with Marcus Watson already in place. Both of them can play positions 2-5 at the high school level with the ability to steal minutes at multiple positions at the next level. Coleman has improved each season, diversifying his game from being a three-point shooter, into a slasher and even rounding out his game with some physicality in the paint and an ability to score with his back to the basket.

Jonesboro sees All-Region 4-AAAAAA Third Team selection 6-foot-6 wing Brice Martin transfer over from Mt. Zion. Martin averaged 12.3 points per game to go with his 5.1 rebounds, 1.6 steals and 1.1 blocks. Martin joins a Cardinal roster that will undergo quite a bit of turnover with a large 2018 class out the door. He and senior guard Brandon Walker should be asked to provide a lion’s share of the offense and bring back the most experience.

Eagle’s Landing adds a versatile piece in 6-foot-3 junior Kirshon Thrash. Thrash posted 11.5 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal per game with his burly 210-pound frame. Thrash can play multiple positions in the backcourt and can keep defenses honest with his three-point shot. He should slot into a guard rotation that will be led by Christopher Hood.

Rising senior point guard Lance Franklin leaves Tattnall Square Academy for defending Class AAAAA state champs Warner Robins. Franklin was a First Team All-Region 7-A selection last season and will provide experience for a Warner Robins team that was hit hard by graduation.

After starting the summer with Greenforest, it looks like Avante Lederer will settle in at Walnut Grove. Lederer, a 6-foot-6 combo forward, heads to his third school for his senior season. Lederer started out at Heritage-Conyers before moving to Salem where he got hurt and missed all of last year. Lederer earned a D-I offer before getting hurt. He will try to resurface as a tweener forward that can handle the ball and score inside and out.

All-State 6-foot-5 junior forward Jamaine Mann leaves ELCA for Starr’s Mill, bolstering Coach Charlemagne Gibbons’ front court in his first year back in the GHSA. Mann was a powerhouse workhorse for the Chargers averaging 10.6 points, 7.8 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.9 steals and 1.5 blocks. Mann is a physical forward that does his best work from 15-feet and in. He can use his athleticism and quick burst to face up slower defenders and get to the basket. His addition will reshape the Region 3-AAAAA hierarchy.

Class 4A

Coming off of a season-ending injury at Father Lopez, FL, AJ Jackson looks ready to make an impact at Westover. The 6-foot-2 shooting guard is a freak athlete. Jackson should be in the discussion for one of the state’s bounciest players and best dunkers. Outside of his high-flying act, Jackson can play too. He averaged 13.2 points primarily as a downhill slasher. His rim-seeking mentality could mesh well with the outside shooting of Jordan Brown. Jackson will need to tighten up his handle and three-point shot to match his explosiveness and round out his offensive repertoire.

A crafty ball handler with advanced court vision, Sutton Smith departs King’s Ridge for first-year school Denmark. Smith has been praised for his feel for the game and his high IQ. He has a chance to be one of the founding fathers of Denmark basketball and give Coach Tyler Whitlock a reliable floor general.

Tray Mitchell makes the 26-minute move from Greenville to Troup County where he will provide an offensive spark in the backcourt. The 5-foot-8 speedster averaged 11.5 points, 2.4 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.8 steals per game.

6-foot-6 Eli Smith leaves the Freelance League at New Faith Christian Academy and joins Luella. Smith averaged 13.4 points and hit 26-of-76 threes.

Keith Williams III bolsters the Sandy Creek backcourt as he transfers in from Newnan. The talented junior averaged 16 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists per game last season.

Class 3A

Three integral pieces fall into Dawson County’s lap thanks to a multitude of circumstances. Jasper Gibson comes to Dawson County after a breakout sophomore season at Jefferson where he averaged 18.7 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.2 steals per game. Gibson drilled 82-of-210 threes at a 39% clip. He comes to Dawson County after his father accepted the Athletic Director position in Dawsonville. Football standout Ahmad Kamara and 6-foot-5 wing Luke Chism transfer in since Dawson Christian Academy is expected to close its doors on their athletics program. Kamara should bring toughness and athleticism while Chism has long been a highly regarded prospect viewed as one of the best Georgians not playing in the GHSA. Chism will get a chance to prove himself his senior season. The trio will join Region 7 Honorable Mention selection Campbell Reed, who played a key role in the Tigers finishing 19-10 and taking a trip to the Sweet 16.

After blowing up with offers from Georgia, Georgia Tech, Kansas State and a handful of others over the offseason, 6-foot-6 wing Brandon Harris leaves Beach for reloading Johnson-Savannah. Harris brings a versatile skill set and some scoring punch to an Atomsmasher team that returns just three players. The First Team All-Region 3-AAA standout will slot in next to All-State guard Shamar Jones and Emondre Bowles.

Johnson-Savannah picks up 6-foot-8 Lamont Sams from rival Jenkins after the Warriors saw Coach Bakari Bryant leave for Gwinnett County after a state championship loss. Sams marks the second huge in-city move for new head coach Rico Campbell. Sams averaged 6.2 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per game.

St. Francis loses their second key piece of their state runner-up team as 6-foot-3 sophomore point guard Madison Durr heads to Pace Academy. Durr made strides over the course of the season and started to come into his own over the summer as a sizable lead guard with a knack for playmaking. Durr has proven to be able to affect games with both his offense and defense and will give Coach Sharman White a long term solution at point guard, forming a dynamic 2021 inside-out duo with Cole Middleton.

Class 2A

Class 1A

Another talented young face is added to the mix at Holy Innocents’ as Chance Moore moves in from Chamblee. A 6-foot-4 wing that just picked up an offer from Rutgers, Moore is an active slasher that can pull-up from 15-feet. His energy makes him a quality defender that can guard both on the perimeter and pick up weak-side blocks. Moore will fit in nicely with fellow 2021 guard Garrison Powell and rising junior Josh Smith.

Mt. Bethel’s first season in the GHSA could end with a bang. Adding onto an already talented roster is 2021 point guard Jayce Harrison, who moves in from Fellowship Christian. Listed at 5-foot-9, Harrison made an immediate impact at the varsity level as a freshman, averaging 14.9 points, 2.7 rebounds, 2 assists and 2.2 steals per game on his way to earning All-Region 6B Second Team honors. Harrison will provide outside shooting (47-of-129; 36% 3PT) along with another steady ball handler to pair with Coleman Boyd.

The revolving door known as Greenforest will have a completely new roster for the second consecutive season. This time, its 6-foot-6 First Team All-State 2020 shooting guard Lamar Oden who leads the plethora of transfers. Oden averaged 20.9 points and 7.3 rebounds at Southwest Atlanta Christian as one of the state’s brightest young talents. Following him is highly touted 2021 combo guard RJ Noord. Packed with athleticism and effort, Noord will bring energy and high upside after spending his freshman season at Columbia. The front court gets a face lift in the form of well traveled big Christian Fussell. Fussell, a 6-foot-10 junior, is already on his third school after Stockbridge and Holy Spirit Prep didn’t pan out.

Out-of-GHSA

Therrell goes from being a state title contender in Class AA to taking a step back with the loss of 6-foot-2 rising junior scoring guard Deandre Brown. The Second Team All-State selection led Therrell to the No. 1 ranking in the final regular season poll before the Panthers fell at home to Glenn Hill in the Elite Eight. Brown was one of the state’s biggest breakout stars, averaging 18.3 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.8 steals per game with a 36-point season-high outburst against Morgan County as his feather in the cap. The development of 2020 lead guard Roman Son now becomes crucial as to how far Therrell’s young cast will go in 2019.

Re-class Khalil Shaheed leaves Kennesaw Mountain for Superior Collegiate Academy in Florida and moves into the 2020 class. The physical 6-foot-3 off guard is a bull when attacking the basket. Shaheed is explosive and strong enough to shake off most defenders. The loss hurts Kennesaw Mountain and their fire power around All-State forward Jalyn McCreary.

Holy Spirit Prep’s “superteam” moniker gets more and more justifiable by the day as 6-foot-8 Ahmir Langlais heads to the GISA. Langlais, one of Georgia’s most skilled 2019 big men if he chooses not to reclassify, was a Class 7A All-State Honorable Mention selection after averaging 15.5 points, 9.9 rebounds and 2 blocks per game.

Coming off an Elite Eight appearance in Class AAAAAAA with everyone set to return, Campbell instead loses second-leading scorer Donovan Grant to The-Skill-Factory where he plans to reclass into 2020. Grant averaged 16.4 points and 5.9 rebounds per game as one of the county’s premier three-point shooters, hitting 74-of-213 attempts. The Spartans still have Terrell Burden and Brandon Deravine in place which will keep Campbell in the hunt for another state playoff run.

Holy Spirit Prep snatches another GHSA standout in Greenforest’s 6-foot-8 senior Ibrahima Jarjou. Jarjou made strides with the Atlanta Xpress program this summer and joins Anthony Edwards, Deandre Brown and Ahmir Langlais who all played with the Xpress; the latter two transferring to Holy Spirit Prep this summer as well. Jarjou averaged 8.7 points and 1 block per game as a junior at Greenforest.

All-State 2020 PG Christian Wright elects to forgo his final two years of high school at Milton to play prep ball at The-Skill-Factory. Wright was the face of a young Milton team on the verge of making noise at the statewide level. Wright was named Region 5-AAAAAAA Player of the Year after averaging 22.3 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 1.7 steals per game.

Columbia has been a revolving door since Dr. Phil McCrary returned to the sidelines. While the Doc has won games, the Eagles have lost a handful of players, this time star 2020 forward Josh Taylor, who transfers to Greensboro Day, NC. The Eagles will be hard-pressed to replace Taylor’s 12 points, DeKalb County-best 12.9 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game.

Westlake picks up a pair of All-State Second Teamers in Shekinah Howard and Simone Lett. Howard comes in from Hapeville Charter where her play as a versatile wing garnered ACC interest. She averaged 15.7 points, 10.2 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game. Lett, a former Region 2 foe at Pebblebrook, averaged 15.8 points, 7.7 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 2.8 blocks as a 6-foot-1 forward.  The twosome joins a now loaded Westlake roster which is ready to come of age after graduating just two seniors.  With Taylor Hosendove expected to return, the Lions will flaunt three All-State selections.

Wheeler combats Westlake’s moves with the addition of Yazz Wazeerud-din. The athletic 6-foot forward was a First Team All Region 7-AAAAAA pick while at Pope.

Sisters Laren and Logan VanArsdale transfer from Whitefield Academy to Hillgrove. Laren was a First Team All-Region selection while Logan was an Honorable Mention pick in the loaded Region 6A. Laren is a playmaker that will make her teammates better with her ability to create off the bounce.

Catherine Shope adds major fire power to the North Forsyth backcourt, a team which already returns all five starters. Shope was a GICAA All-State selection after pouring in 21.1 points, 6.2 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 4.4 steals per game at The King’s Academy in Woodstock. She is a high-volume scorer that will have help in place at North Forsyth, easing her offensive burden.

Rockdale County’s leading scorer, Diamond Swift, transfers over to neighboring Newton to join Lexii Chatman in the backcourt. Swift averaged 11.8 points as a sophomore and now bolsters the Rams’ guard rotation.

South Gwinnett gets a scoring punch in the form of Providence Christian Academy transfer Tamia Francis. Francis averaged 14.1 points, 8.5 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 3 steals and 3.4 blocks per game for the Storm.

Class AAAAAA

Melany Jackson provides a reloading Grovetown team with some toughness inside. At 5-foot-10 from Jefferson County, Jackson rebounds the ball well and can put it on the floor from 15-feet in to get to the hoop. She averaged 8.1 points as a sophomore.

Class AAAAA
Class AAAA

In an effort to make sure Auburn-commit Brooke Moore goes out with a bang her senior year at Henry County, junior Janiyah Jones has moved in to strengthen the backcourt and take some of the scoring burden off Moore. Jones averaged 11.3 points and 5.4 rebounds as a sophomore at Whitewater.

Hardaway’s rebuilding process takes a monumental hit as Class AAAA All-State Second Teamer Olivia Cochran transfers to Carver-Columbus after posting 17.2 points, 10.9 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per game as a 6-foot-1 freshman. She joins a Tiger team that finished as state runner-ups; their only weakness their lack of dominant size which Cochran more than makes up for now. Mariah Igus, Alycia Reese and Ja’nya Love-Hill will circle Cochran on the perimeter.

A part of Cross Creek’s twin tower success with Memphis-signee Alana Davis, Kianni Westbrook is ready to anchor her own team at Burke County. The 6-foot-1 lanky shot-blocker averaged 7.6 points, 8.8 rebounds and 2 blocks as a sophomore.

Class AAA

The rich get richer as reigning Class AAA state champion Beach sees Preseason All-Coastal Georgia honoree NaTeari Chaney transfer in from Savannah High. Chaney averaged 20.5 points, 8.8 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game en route to being named an All-State Honorable Mention selection last season. Beach enters the season as a strong favorite to defend their title.

Class A

With two All-Americans off to college, St. Francis lands Jordan Isaacs to pick up where they left off. The 6-foot-2 forward was an All-Region 3 First Team selection at North Paulding. She excels at rebounding and catches opponents off guard with her left-handed offensive arsenal.

Chandler Davis joins St. Francis after averaging over 11 points and 2 steals per game at Alpharetta as a freshman.

Class AAAAAAA

Jared Jones follows the A.O.T. pipeline and will bring his post presence to McEachern to pair up with shot-blocking specialist Babatunde Akingbola to form the most formidable frontcourt in the state with Isaac Okoro starring at small forward.

DJ Williams transferred to Grayson during the school year’s second semester. He adds an athletic lead guard that can push the tempo in transition and has the body to become a plus-defender his senior season.

The mass exodus has begun at Parkview as Shiloh pilfers the Panthers for brothers Justin and Truitt Spencer along with Class AAAAAAA Freshman of the Year, Toneari Lane. The Spencers give coach Kim Rivers interchangeable pieces in the backcourt which provide depth and replace TJ Stargell while Lane is a cornerstone player over his final three seasons. Lane’s versatility on the wing and high ceiling will help a Shiloh team which lost it’s direction last year with a disappointing 16-13 finish. For Parkview, it is a tough pill to swallow for a young group that looked prime to breakthrough over the next two seasons.

Known for landing good guards, Pebblebrook attempts to reload and replace Collin Sexton with Alexander combo guard Grant Howard. Howard, 6-foot-3, possesses good size and scoring touch. He averaged over 17 points per game with the Cougars. Howard is a popular name among Low Major and Mid-Major programs. In Pebblebrook’s free flowing offense, Howard may be a fine fit to flourish his senior season.

Ian Hardy brings versatility and athleticism to the Discovery backcourt. Hardy began his career at Berkmar and now will be asked to play a big role with the Titans.

Mandarius Dickerson leaves Southwest DeKalb for Collins Hill after leading the Panthers in scoring at 14 points per game while adding on 4.2 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.8 steals. Mandarius is part of a four-man group of 2018 seniors who have decided to leave Southwest before their final season. Dickerson has been on a tear with Heat Check over the summer months. Dickerson is a good shooter from deep and has worked on slashing to and finishing around the basket.

With a chance to take over at Southwest Atlanta Christian after a large 2017 graduating class including DeAundrae Ballard departing, Koby Isaac is now on the move to his third school in three seasons. Isaac has shown flashes of promise over his career and averaged 6.3 points per game at SACA as a sophomore.

Coming off their best season in school history which included a Region 6 championship, Mountain View looks to carry their momentum by returning their starting backcourt and adding Nahiem Alleyne. The former South Gwinnett guard provides a versatile high-upside piece to relieve the scoring load placed on Spencer Rodgers and Miles Long. The Bear backcourt bolsters one of the state’s best cohesive groups flaunted experience and chemistry. A true sizable post presence is the one element Mountain View currently lacks.

Terence Porter has all the intangibles to have a breakthrough senior season at Grayson. At 6-foot-7, the athletically built Porter is a combo forward. He can rebound the ball but must improve on his ability to finish through contact at the rim. He has spent the summer with Team Power where he primarily worked the high post on offense. Porter provides Coach Geoffrey Pierce more length to pair with junior Kenyon Jackson inside after graduating Gerald Buncum. If Porter can buy into his role and continue to improve, the Rams once again could have one of Gwinnett’s best one-two combos on the glass.

Currently ranked a three-star point guard by 247Sports and the No. 5 prospect in Alabama by HoopSeen, Tony Johnson is heading to Berkmar after starring at Eufaula, AL. Johnson played this offseason with the Southern Stampede, coached by recent Patriot graduate and current Indiana Hoosier, Al Durham’s father. Johnson is an aggressive scorer that will have an opportunity to take the reigns at Berkmar, who seeks a new leader after a large graduating class.

After spending a year away at Huntington Prep, Elias King returns to his home school of Shiloh for his junior season. Currently ranked as a four-star recruit by 247Sports, King is a 6-foot-7 guard that thrives in transition when making decisions with the ball in his hands. Already a skilled passer, King can also fill it up from all three levels. He instantly becomes one of Georgia’s top 2019 prospects and returns to a talented Shiloh roster which already has added 2016-17 Class AAAAAAA Freshman of the Year Toneari Lane along with Parkview teammates Justin and Truitt Spencer.

Norcross has replaced the outgoing duo of Rayshaun Hammonds and Lance Thomas with Issa Muhammad. Muhammad, 6-foot-9 with an interesting skill-set, is tabbed as a three-star recruit by Rivals. With a Georgia Tech offer already in hand heading into his junior season, as a sophomore Muhammad appeared on the scene at Lakeside-DeKalb and averaged 11.2 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.5 blocks. He parlayed his play into a spot on the powerful Game Elite 2019 team which played up on the Adidas Uprising circuit. With Game Elite, his playing time and production fluctuated. Now heading into 2017-18, Muhammad will have an opportunity to continue to grow his game and find his niche with one of Georgia’s most consistent programs.

One of the best shooters in the 2020 class, Kevon Eskridge, is heading to Norcross after spending his freshman season at Columbia. In Year 1, Eskridge wasted no time making an impact, ranking third in DeKalb County in three-point shooting, nailing 63-of-141 attempts for a 45% mark. Eskridge is a fearless shooter that can take over games when hot. He will join fellow sophomore Brandon Boston in the Blue Devils backcourt, possibly the best 2020 guard duo in the state.

Dunwoody loses its leading scorer, 6-foot senior Ty Lilly, to South Gwinnett. Lilly led the Wildcats at 11.6 points per game, while adding on 5.2 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2 steals a night. He was instrumental in upsetting Alpharetta in the Region 7-AAAAAA semifinals, scoring 22 points, collecting 7 rebounds and dishing out 5 assists. Lilly should provide Coach Ty Anderson with an experienced ball-handler to pair with South Gwinnett’s improving backcourt.

Pebblebrook adds Region 3-AAAAA First Teamer Josh Graham to the mix. The wing averaged over 15 points per game at Whitewater.

Class AAAAAA

Habersham Central gets a shot in the arm in new head coach Jeremy York along with three transfers who will make most of their impact on the football field, but still will add value on the hardwood. Brothers AJ and Donnie Curry come over from Stephens County. At 6-foot-6, AJ is a wiry athlete that can protect the paint and chip in on offense thanks to his ability to get out and run. Jim Barnett joins from Gainesville and brings a new dimension of toughness to the 1-23 Raiders.

Joshua Archer heads to Heritage-Conyers after the Patriots graduate a handful of college guards. Archer has big game experience from his time at Southwest DeKalb and should see plenty of opportunities to flourish his senior season under coach Vernon Denmark.

South Paulding receives a boost in the scoring department as Region 5 rival Cameron Armstrong moves in from Alexander. The 6-foot-2 combo guard can put the ball in the basket. He has put up big numbers over the past two summers with Team Forrest and started to show flashes of his capabilities this year with the Cougars. With a large 2017 class filing out of South Paulding, Armstrong could slide in and become one of coach Gil Davis’ leading scorers right away. Armstrong is a streaky three-point shooter that can carry a team at times, but he will have to lock in defensively over his final two seasons to reach his full potential.

6-foot-11 center Richard Rivers is rumored to be on the move to Dunwoody. Rivers lacks varsity experience, but he is a big body that can clog up the lane. He played for BCB last year before joining the Atlanta Xpress this season.

After winning a state title with First Presbyterian Christian Academy in the GISA in 2015-16, All-State wing Isaiah Scott and point guard Simon Steele move over to try their hand at the GHSA with Bradwell Institute. The Tigers won 6 games in 2015-16 and flashed major signs of improvement early on last year with a 5-1 start, but ultimately finished the season missing out on the Class AAAAAA playoffs with an 11-12 mark. Scott is a wiry scorer that should be among the Tigers’ leading scorers from Day 1 while Steele adds ball handling and team chemistry. The two will join Coastal Crew Rebels teammate Javonte LeCounte who averaged 12.1 points as a sophomore.

First Presbyterian Christian Academy is officially drained as Khalyn Weekley becomes the third player to move to the GHSA at Bradwell Institute. Weekley exploded onto the scene with his play at the Norman Parker Showcase. He is an aggressive point guard with college size. Weekley attacks the basket going downhill while still maintaining a respectable three-point shot and also the ability to get his teammates involved. Weekley’s will to win coupled with some familiar faces could help him cement himself as a D1 player and one of the best 2018 guards in Georgia all while thrusting the Tigers into the postseason picture.

In a potential state altering move in Class AAAAAA, 6-foot-6 sophomore Quincy Ademokoya is off to Dacula after spending his freshman season at Normal West High School in Chicago.  Scouts from the area love his potential and say his motor runs hot. He projects to be an advanced defender and already holds an offer from DePaul. He is visiting both Illinois and Southern Illinois in June. His versatile size added to an already strong returning backcourt makes Dacula interesting contender for 2017-18.

Lakeside-Evans bolsters its backcourt firepower with the addition of Tyshun Briscoe. Briscoe comes in from Richmond Academy with a similar scoring mindset to that of lead dog Kalen Williams. Briscoe is a microwave from beyond the arc that can score in bunches. He will start alongside Williams his sophomore season.

Messiah Thompson returns to North Atlanta after seeing limited time at Pebblebrook. Thompson instantly becomes the number one option. He is the engine for the Warriors and will have everything run through him. Thompson has good court vision and can create his own shot. His size will hurt his recruitment, but Thompson has an advanced feel for the game.

Brenden Tucker makes an in-county move from Archer to Dacula for his junior season and in the process bolsters the Falcons’ backcourt, making it possibly the strongest on paper in Class AAAAAA. Tucker used an electric first-step to average a team-best 14.2 points per game with the Tigers while adding 3.2 assists and 1.7 steals a night. Tucker will fit in alongside point guard Mekhail Bethea, Class 6A 2016-17 Most Improved Player Arusha Hunter and Reggie Horton.

After losing Malachi Rhodes back to ELCA, Langston Hughes instead gets the second scoring option they’ll need to repeat as state champs in the form of Team Wall forward Tyler Smith. Smith comes in from Panther Creek, NC where he averaged 13.1 points and 5.4 rebounds as a bruising 6-foot-6, 225-pound junior forward. Smith spent his final summer traveling the nation with Team Wall where he showcased his physicality and nimble footwork along the baseline. His jump shot is still improving as he currently butters his bread in the paint and attacking the rim from the mid-range and in, with the ability to knock down the open shot. Smith enters one of Georgia’s more competitive regions where toughness will win games.

Class AAAAA

After taking a trip to the Sweet 16 in Class AAAAA, Starr’s Mill will look to replace Zach Pina who makes the 6.5 mile move to play at neighboring rival McIntosh. Pina won Freshman of the Year his first season with the Panthers and followed up by averaging 15.9 points as a sophomore and 12.3 as a junior. He brings experience and a knack for scoring the ball to a McIntosh team which should be much improved after undergoing a rebuilding season.

For the second season in a row, a Mountain View Bear transfers to Buford. This time it is Brandon Green. The 6-foot-5 forward has yet to make a major impact on the varsity level and will try to put his versatile skill set to use in coach Eddie Martin’s system. Green averaged 3.1 points and 2.3 rebounds as a part of Mountain View’s Region 6-AAAAAAA championship team.

Jalen Jackson brings over size and plenty growth to Cedar Shoals after seeing quality minutes as a freshman at Lincoln County. Jackson, who is expected to grow upwards of 6-foot-6 when all is said and done, is a tough rebounder who averaged 7 points and 6 rebounds in Region 7-A.

Miller Grove adds veteran lead guard TJ Stargell to handle the point guard duties. The Wolverines went through some growing pains at times last year with a young backcourt and should be better for it this season. Stargell brings a true pass-first mentality to the roster with plenty of big game experience already under his belt from his days at Shiloh.

Athens Christian will try to survive a devastating blow as Quincy Canty departs for Cedar Shoals. At 6-foot-5, Canty was an All-Region performer and the Eagles’ leading scorer as a freshman forward. Athens Christian was set to open the season as one of Class A-Private’s top programs, but with the bouncy and physical forward gone, they will now seek a new No. 1 option. For Cedar Shoals, they get an impact player to build around after graduating an important senior class which included Charleston Southern-signee Phlan Fleming.

Tyler Johnson has followed Quincy Canty to Cedar Shoals after initially the duo looked like the long term answer for Athens Christian and seemingly had the ability to thrust the Eagles deep into the state playoff picture. Instead, they will suit up for the Jaguars. Johnson is a talented guard who plays much larger than his size, often leading to stuffed stat sheets. He can get red-hot from beyond the arc, but also can do damage in the paint. The sophomore is a very good rebounder for his size and is a pest on defense.

Jalen Mason returns home to Woodland-Henry and has a chance to immediately make the team his and truly cement himself as a Division I point guard. At 6-foot-3, Mason is an explosive athlete who has played against elite level competition while at Miller Grove and with the Georgia Stars. Mason averaged 6.3 points per game with the Wolverines while sharing time in a crowded backcourt. Now at Woodland, Mason should see his production skyrocket heading into his upperclassman seasons.  Mason possesses quick lateral movements and can get into the lane. He has a quality three-point shot and has the intangibles to become a high-caliber perimeter defender.

The No. 12 ranked small forward in Georgia, Terrance Boykin, will suit up for Maynard Jackson his final season after starring at Columbia. At 6-foot-7, Boykin has shown the ability to play point-forward. The versatile D-I prospect averaged 5.3 rebounds and 3.8 assists (second in DeKalb County). At Maynard Jackson, Boykin will be expected to showcase his scoring more consistently in Coach Travis Williams’ system.

After winning just 2 games at Ola last season, scoring guard Terrynce Jackson has transferred from the outhouse to the penthouse by joining Stockbridge. Jackson garnered Region 4-AAAAA Second Team honors as he led the Mustangs in scoring at 18.9 points per game. The lefty will provide Stockbridge with more scoring around D-I recruit Kavonte Ivery.

Class AAAA

Salem lands a physical piece to the puzzle in former Southwest DeKalb Panther Tabias Long. The 6-foot-5 forward has an athletic build that he uses to bully opponents or rise over them for clean looks. He averaged 4.4 points and 4.4 rebounds in Southwest’s balanced offense. While at Salem, he may be asked to score the ball more and stuff the stat sheet.

Baldwin plucks away two of Milledgeville’s better players in Georgia Military College’s Justin Webb and Zae SimpsonWebb is a 6-foot-6 combo forward entering his junior season. Last year with the Bulldogs he averaged 11 points and 5.2 rebounds. Webb is a sleeper in the 2019 class, but with Buck Harris coaching him up, Harris may be able to pull out his potential. Webb will need to get tougher as he has had a tendency to shy away from physicality. Simpson saw limited minutes at GMC, but could provide good rotational minutes for the Braves.

The future of Class AAAA potentially has changed if not this year but for the long-term as Landmark Christian legacy Walker Kessler has transferred to Woodward Academy, who already has reigning Class AAAA Freshman of the Year, dual-sport standout 6-foot-5 Jacorrei Turner, in place. While at Landmark Christian, the 6-foot-10 rising sophomore averaged 15.1 points, 10.7 rebounds and 3 blocks per game on his way to earning All-State Honorable Mention. Kessler is widely regarded as the most skilled 2020 big man the state has to offer. Kessler’s father, uncle and older brother all played for the Georgia Bulldogs, his dad drafted by the Los Angeles Clippers. Kessler spent the summer with the 15U Atlanta Celtics where he showcased his soft touch which extends to beyond the three-point line and his ability to alter shots and rebound at a high clip.  The Woodward Academy Eagles now have an accumulation of young talent that could be ready to come to fruition in a classification which is wide open behind reigning state champion Upson-Lee and runner-up St. Pius. A frontline of Kessler, Turner and 6-foot-8 2019 forward Kevin Powell is the best the class has to offer.

Class AAA

Tay Howard makes the move from Madison County to East Jackson to help out on the perimeter. Howard was an All-Area Honorable Mention selection last year. His 6-foot-4 length on defense causes problems for smaller guards, leading to steals and transition opportunities. He will have two seasons to continue to grow his game as East Jackson takes the next step during their rebuild.

Cedar Grove gets help at point guard in the form of rising senior Keshun Byrd. Byrd averaged 10.1 points and 3.4 assists at Maynard Jackson. He will share the ball handling duties with junior Devon Barnes.

Savannah-power Jenkins adds senior guard Matt Sams from Savannah High and 6-foot-7 junior Lamont Sams from Johnson-Savannah. Matt led the Bluejackets in scoring at 14.9 points per game while Lamont averaged 3.1 points backing up Amanze Ngumezi. Lamont is still raw but he has length and confidence to shoot from three in the corners. Both Sams will have an immediate opportunity to contribute for the Warriors.

Class AA

The addition of Isaiah Bauman strengthens a Glenn Hills backcourt that takes a hit with graduation. Bauman moves 9.7 miles to join a Spartans group that saw a 13-game win increase this past season. Bauman is an aggressive scorer with a dog mentality. Bauman has had a strong summer with Sports Academy South as the team’s leading scorer and consistent All-Tournament performer at HoopSeen events. He and Eric Farmer could compose of one of Augusta’s better backcourts which still has 6-foot-8 Timmy Sellers anchoring the paint.

Class A

Daniel Parrish brings confidence and versatility to the Aquinas frontcourt with the ability to play positions 3 thru 5. Though he has an unorthodox left-handed stroke, Parrish can knock down threes when left open, hitting a a 35% clip while averaging 13.6 points and 8 rebounds.

Zy Wright heads to rival Aquinas after spending his freshman season at Lincoln County. Wright came on strong when his team needed him the most, averaging 24 points per game in the postseason, dropping in 26 points in a Sweet 16 loss at Treutlen. Wright comes from good bloodlines, his mother the leading scorer in Lincoln County history and a D-I player herself.

Trevon Reddish moves from Carrollton to ELCA. The rising junior is a talented guard that plays above the rim and can hunt his own shot. He can score from all three levels and likes to use his size to his advantage on the block against smaller defenders. Reddish has seen major minutes over his early career and brings experience into his final two seasons. The Chargers are on the rise in Class A-Private after winning 20 games with a young team.

With their roster in flux, the two-time defending Class A-Private state champs Greenforest have added Parkview sharpshooter Cam Chavers. The 5-foot-11 senior averaged 8 points per game as a junior after leading the Panthers as a sophomore at 10.3. Chavers provides an off-ball floor stretcher that can open up the interior for Greenforest’s bigs down low.

Out-of-GHSA

Trinity Christian over in the GISA gets a good one in Brady Burnett. The 6-foot-4 forward comes over from neighboring East Coweta and brings with him a diverse skill set at the stretch position. With the ability to put the ball on the deck and finish with both hands, Burnett also possesses a soft touch which can extend out to the three-point line in time.

Lovett’s Ryan Greer heads up north to Massachusetts to Northfield Mount Hermon. Greer was possibly the state’s most underappreciated guard, a scorer and leader of the Lions.
