The 2022-22 GHSA season tipped-off this week as a handful of Top 10 teams were in action across a multitude of showcase events. This week’s summary will be abbreviated due to the flu, but here’s a look at some notable results.

Seven Preseason Top 10 teams in Class 7A opened their season this week with two being bounced from the poll. At the top, No. 2 McEachern defeated Class A D-II No. 1 Greenforest 69-66. No. 4 Norcross pulled away from Class 3A No. 1 Sandy Creek 67-55. No. 5 Pebblebrook is up a spot after a 66-45 win over a Saulamon Evans-less Class 5A No. 6 Mays. No. 7 Berkmar rises one position following a 70-61 victory against Class A D-I No. 8 Mt. Pisgah. No. 8 Carrollton edged Shiloh 47-41. Out of the poll is Osborne (0-1) and Buford (0-1). The Cardinals fell to Class 5A No. 4 Hiram 63-53 while the Wolves were beat by Class 4A No. 3 Lovett 58-55. No. 9 South Gwinnett and No. 10 Parkview become the third and fourth teams out of Region 8 to grace the poll. The Comets crushed a shorthanded Mill Creek 61-26 while the Panthers won at Discovery 56-39 before outlasting Walnut Grove in triple overtime 74-72, doing so without Mike Matthews.

There are no changes in Class 6A. No. 1 Grovetown squeezed past Class 2A No. 1 Westside-Augusta 79-73 while No. 5 Jonesboro knocked off Preseason Class 5A No. 10 Creekside 72-60 and No. 8 Marist clawed past Campbell 51-45.

Class 5A was busy with eight teams in action. No. 1 Kell trounced No. 10 Dutchtown 76-58. No. 3 Eagle’s Landing scored 52 points in the second half to storm past Class 2A No. 1 Westside-Augusta 85-72. No. 4 Hiram defeated Preseason Class 7A No. 7 Osborne 63-53. No. 5 Tucker topped Southwest-Macon 66-46 while No. 6 Mays fell to Class 7A No. 5 Pebblebrook 66-45. No. 8 Chapel Hill is down a slot with a 44-42 loss to Westlake. Creekside (0-1) drops out after their 72-60 loss to Class 6A No. 5 Jonesboro. No. 7 Jones County debuts after wins over Laney (78-65) and Class 2A No. 7 Drew Charter (63-58).

In Class 4A, No. 6 Westover tumbles three spots with a 68-60 overtime loss at Class 3A No. 5 Monroe. No. 3 Lovett climbs two places after beating Preseason Class 7A No. 10 Buford 58-55. No. 5 Miller Grove moves up a spot following a 65-60 win over Duluth. Woodland-Stockbridge (0-1) is out after a 59-55 loss to Decatur. No. 8 Fayette County replaces the Wolfpack, coming off an 88-69 win against St. Francis.

No. 1 Sandy Creek suffered a 67-55 loss to Class 7A No. 4 Norcross but maintains their position atop Class 3A. No. 5 Monroe is up a position after a 68-60 overtime win against Class 4A Preseason No. 3 Westover. No. 7 Dougherty lost 61-54 to Lee County while No. 10 Salem, who is down a spot, fell 58-44 to New Manchester.

Class 2A remains the same even after No. 1 Westside-Augusta lost to Class 6A No. 1 Grovetown (79-73) and Class 5A No. 3 Eagle’s Landing (85-72). No. 7 Drew Charter was upended by Class 5A No. 7 Jones County 63-58. No. 10 Butler lost 80-78 to Augusta Christian.

The Top 3 in Class A D-I all secured victories. No. 1 King’s Ridge pulled out a 68-64 win against Jacksonville, AL, No. 2 Mt. Vernon Presbyterian crushed North Springs 89-45 and No. 3 Mt. Bethel held off Woodward Academy 57-45. No. 9 Woodville-Tompkins slips two spots with a 49-44 loss to GAC. No. 8 Mt. Pisgah becomes the fifth team from Region 6 to enter the Top 10, replacing Chattooga (0-0).

Only No. 1 Greenforest played in Week 1 out of Class A D-II. The Eagles fell 69-66 to Class 7A No. 2 McEachern.
