2022 6-8 C Valdy Zephir – Aim High – Walnut Grove
At 6-foot-8, Valdy Zephir offers an interesting array of skills. In from Central Gwinnett, the imposing big man is an impactful piece both in the paint and on the perimeter. Zephir uses his strength inside to carve out space and collect rebounds, often able to finish through contact. Valdy scorers with a hook shot and can back down his man until he’s underneath the rim. What really gives Zephir some intriguing upside is his outside shot. He’s capable of knocking down threes when left open and has a good-looking release. Zephir hit two threes en route to 21 points, 11 rebounds and 1 assist in a 79-72 win over the Newnan Fire.
2022 6-3 SG Jordan Edun – Newnan Fire – East Coweta
Wired to score, Jordan Edun has poured in points his entire career. Moving from Northgate to East Coweta, now Edun will finally be able to see the wins stack up as well. Jordan is a wiry scorer. The skinny guard excels at slithering his way to the rim and drawing contact. He went 9-10 from the foul line and finished with 29 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals and 1 block vs. Aim High. Edun is good at creating separation on the perimeter which gives him space to hit shots from the mid-range and beyond. He is very tough to guard in the open floor and uses a quick stop-and-go move to get into the paint consistently.
2022 6-2 CG Jaylon Johnson – Rome Elite – Chattooga
A virtual unknown outside of Northwest Georgia, Jaylon Johnson will have another All-State caliber year in Class 2A after winning Most Improved Player a season ago, upping his average from 5.3 to 15.6 points per game. Johnson looked good in a 62-54 win over LOB Elite, using a quick first step to slash to the basket. Johnson has length at the guard position and can play either on or off ball. He’s a skillful finisher that can absorb contact at the rim and play physical when getting downhill. He scored 17 points in the win and is one of the better players in the area.
2022 6-10 C Damian Horton – Rome Elite – Rockmart
The wheels are starting to turn for Damian Horton. The long-armed athletic 6-foot-10 center can run the floor and finish above the rim. He’s a talented rim protector that can wipe away shots at their highest point. Horton didn’t get a ton of post up opportunities, but finishes lobs and scores on offensive putbacks. He had 8 points, 5 rebounds and 4 blocks. Playing against high level competition and getting as many reps as possible will help with his development. With his size and mobility, it wouldn’t come as a shock if someone rolls the dice with Horton at the D-II or even D-I level eventually.
2022 6-5 W Cameron Walker – TSF Mack – Milton
Overshadowed by the stars of Milton, Cam Walker has been able to standout this summer as a true scoring threat and prospect that is starting to trend in the right direction. An unsung hero to the Eagles’ success a season ago, Walker is emerging as a strong 3&D wing. He shot well off the dribble in a 59-56 loss to Alabama Fusion accruing 18 points, 1 rebound, 4 assists, 3 steals and 1 block while sinking a pair of threes. Walker is a physical player on both ends of the floor. He bumps ball handlers and uses his strength to make them uncomfortable and while on offense he can put his head down and get to the rim, drawing contact in the process. Walker won’t be asked to do a ton of scoring his senior season, but if he gets left off scouting reports or teams dare him to beat them, he is more than capable of making an offensive impact.
2022 6-7 F Jonathan Murray – TSF Mack – Milton
New to the Milton machine from Huffman, Alabama, Jonathan Murray is a versatile combo-forward that can attack from all over the floor. Murray is a talented athlete with a strong football body. He can score around the rim and is a mismatch on the perimeter with his outside shot and quickness off the dribble. Murray will provide Milton with another quality shot blocker. He finished with 11 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals and 3 blocks. It will be interesting to see where he fits in at on offense. He could be a wild card that brings the Eagles to another level when he’s clicking.
2021 6-3 G Davin Steers – Aim High – Central Gwinnett
The unsigned senor caught my eye with his motor. Steers was involved in almost every play. He was good off the dribble, able to get to the foul line but also distribute when getting downhill. He was an effective rebounder and had the size to guard multiple spots on the perimeter. He finished with 18 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals. He may be worth some JUCO looks.
