2027 6-5 W Lorenzo McCorvey – Walker
A breakout season could be on the horizon for Lorenzo McCorvey as he had college coaches, members of media and even referees talking throughout camp. Coming off a sophomore season in which he Swiss Army Knifed his way to 8.7 points, 6.2 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 steal per game, McCorvey built on his versatility and led the Wolverines to the Blue Bracket Championship, a perfect 4-0 weekend capped by a 66-59 win over East Forsyth. In the title game, McCorvey racked up 20 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals and 1 block. Lorenzo is versatile 1-5, showcasing his value as he defended the center position against East Forsyth. Long, athletic and active, McCorvey’s quick instincts lead to deflections and possession ending rebounds. Consistently throughout the weekend Lorenzo served as point guard, initiating sets as a smooth passer. When he wasn’t getting others involved, he was attacking the paint and drawing fouls as he went 4-7 from the line. Developing a reliable three-point jumper will be the next area of growth for his offensive game. With his strong character make-up, physical attributes and overall skill, McCorvey has a chance to explode up recruiting boards over his final two seasons, making a mark with D-I and D-II programs alike.
2027 6-4 F Gavin Lesch – East Forsyth
Gavin is a bit sturdier than younger brother Tyler and an inch taller. He can be utilized in the pick-and-pop game as a stretch-four but can also serve time as a straight-up wing. Quickening his footspeed laterally will raise his potential as a full-time perimeter player. Lesch shoots the ball well from distance and can use his strength to finish through contact on short drives. Against Walker in the Blue Bracket Championship, Lesch drilled four three-pointers en route to 18 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal and 1 block.
2027 6-6 W Conrad Ogden – Westminster
Expect Conrad to improve by leaps and bounds over his next two seasons. Ogden is an emerging talent. The younger brother of former McDonald’s All-American Courtney Ogden, Conrad has great bloodlines and a rapidly improving game. At 6-foot-6, Ogden creates mismatches inside and out. His offensive versatility boasts a smooth jump shot with three-point range, able to score off the dribble and off the catch. Conrad is comfortable playing on the block, utilizing his pivot to find angles to score up close. His fluid athleticism and multi-level scoring capabilities give him a high ceiling to stride toward.
2027 6-6 C Keaton Watkins – Fannin County
A physical wide-body with an old school game, Keaton knows his strengths and sticks to them. Watkins is a back-to-the-basket big man. He implements ball fakes and counter moves to score inside. Keaton uses a strong drop-step to get to his hook shot and is adept at backing down his man. He finishes with both hands and is a problem on the offensive glass. An underrated aspect of Keaton’s game is his post defense. He does a good job walling up to block shots. Watkins posted 16 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal in a 52-50 loss to Cedar Shoals. Keaton will be an attractive prospect for non-D-I programs come senior season.
2027 6-7 W Kolton Kaylor – Fannin County
The secret got out at GBCA Live as Kolton Kaylor was the talk of camp, his play parlayed into a Chattanooga offer. Kaylor made waves as a sophomore leading Fannin County to a surprise trip to the Class A D-I Elite Eight for the first time in school history. At 6-foot-7, Kolton is a highly-skilled southpaw. The lefty attacks inside and out in a variety of ways. Kaylor can create in isolation settings on the perimeter, able to crossover defenders to rise into his difficult to contest jump shot or get all the way to the rim where he finishes with poster slams. The bouncy swingman is crafty on the low block, posting up before making a quick move to finish. Kaylor uses his jab step when facing up. When defenses decide to run multiple people at him, Kolton can pick them apart with his passing. In a narrow loss to Cedar Shoals, Kaylor didn’t have his best game but was still a gamechanger with 14 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals and 1 block. College programs will have limited opportunities to watch the sleeper prospect due to his elected absence from travel ball.
2027 6-2 G Ty Shine – Harlem
The Augusta Christian transfer filed away 18 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists in a 62-38 win over Upson-Lee. When Shine had his feet set he was automatic from deep nailing three threes. When he had to make moves off the dribble, Ty had no issue getting to his spots as his pull-up was a major weapon. Shine got downhill to finish with both hands. Tulane offered just prior to GBCA Live.
2027 6-2 G Marlon Knight – Calvary Day
I’ve long been a fan of MJ Knight. The lefty is a big guard that brings his football toughness to the hardwood. Knight blends speed and strength when getting to the basket. He maintains his line and plays through contact. His outside shot is becoming a bigger part of his offensive arsenal and should see his three-point numbers uptick over his final two seasons play under Coach Bob Martin. Marlon sank a three in a 61-31 win over Archer, finishing with 9 points, 4 rebounds and 1 assist. The wide receiver holds offers from Appalachian State and Georgia State in football, both coming this spring.
2027 5-11 PG Nigel Broome – Christian Heritage
One of the breakout stars from GBCA Live, Nigel proved he is ready to the be the bell cow for Christian Heritage as he led the Lions to the Olive Bracket Championship while averaging close to 30 points per game. In a challenging matchup against a big athletic KIPP Atlanta team, Broome swept the Warriors away with 32 points, 13 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 steals. Nigel’s speed allows him to burst out of the pack in transition and his strength helps him finish exceptionally well in traffic. Broome has the neon green light to hunt his shot from all levels. He liked pull-up jumpers in transition and showcased his much improved three-point range as he sank four threes in the 51-39 win. Nigel’s activity on defense leads to easy hoops in the open floor as he excels at shooting gaps for steals. Broome has a grab-and-go mentality as a rebounder, looking to push the pace immediately upon clearing boards. Nigel will draw serious attention over his final two seasons with the spotlight on him. Don’t be surprised if schools from all levels show interest in the high-motor playmaker.
2027 6-6 G Jarvis Hayes Jr. – Woodward Academy
In a 63-62 loss to rival Jonesboro, Jarvis Hayes Jr. had the performance of the weekend, an unstoppable 36 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals and 1 block. Everything was working for Hayes during his smooth scoring clinic, finding points from all levels. He made a living with his jump shot, getting to his spots and elevating over contests to knock down tough shots. When he attacked the rim, he showed bounce and a quick second leap to clean up any misses. Jarvis hit three mid-range jumpers and three three-pointers. He was elusive with the ball, slithering his way to floaters and slams. Defensively, his length helped eliminate easy passing lanes and cut off straight line drives. His wingspan made the Woodward Academy 3-2 zone tough to penetrate and his sideline-to-sideline coverage forced some turnovers in the 1-2-2 press. Jarvis’ explosive weekend has led to offers from Auburn, Ole Miss, Cincinnati, Florida State, Georgia Tech and Clemson, further cementing him as a rising blue-chip prospect.
2027 6-5 W Quint McGrath – Mt. Vernon
The big guard hit shots in a 61-58 win over Peachtree Ridge. Quint bagged six threes, five coming from the corners on catch-and-shoot attempts to finish with 18 points and 4 rebounds. McGrath played within himself and took what the defense gave him. His shot making and size is enviable at the next level. His ascent is just beginning.
