The separation between No. 1 Westlake and the rest of a talented Region 2-AAAAAAA was apparent as the Lions romped No. 7 Campbell 70-36 and No. 10 Pebblebrook 73-44.

It was a bad week for both teams as the Spartans fall three spots after also losing 55-48 to Class 6A No. 6 Langston Hughes while the Falcons sink two places following a shocking 57-45 loss at Newnan. Outside of Region 2, No. 3 Cherokee defeated No. 6 Woodstock 72-58. No. 4 North Forsyth drilled West Forsyth 51-31 and sent the Wolverines (17-3) out of the Top 10. Reappearing in the rankings is No. 9 North Cobb, who impressed at the Sandy’s Spiel Showcase beating Class A-Private No. 9 ELCA 55-42. The Warriors only play five players a night but they are tough and share the ball well. Alabama A&M-signee Azonya Austin finished with 23 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals while Sydney Thomas dumped in 16 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 steals en route to scoring her 1,000th point of her career.

It took overtime for No. 1 Lovejoy to remain unbeaten in Class 6A play, outlasting No. 10 Mt. Zion-Jonesboro 44-38 behind Kaziah Terrell’s 17 points. No. 2 Forest Park didn’t have as much trouble with the Bulldogs, scoring a 53-29 win. No. 5 Glynn Academy defeated Class 5A No. 7 Statesboro 53-39. Replacing Rome in the Top 10 is fellow Region 7’er No. 10 Carrollton who has now won six-straight including beating Cass 65-38. The Trojans have a potential season-defining week ahead of them, hosting Rome on Tuesday before visiting Kell on Friday.

In Class 4A, No. 1 Carver-Columbus won their rematch with No. 2 Americus-Sumter 54-46 to regain pole position. No. 5 Woodward Academy suffered its second loss of the season once again to Class A-Private No. 5 Greenforest 61-56. Even with top scorer Bre Taylor out for the season with a ruptured achilles, No. 9 Stephens County has refused to relent. The Indians had great wins on the road over North Oconee (61-58) and Madison County (81-79), surviving a 63-point barrage from reigning Miss Sandy’s Spiel Kayla McPherson. No. 5 Rabun County knocked off rival Banks County 67-56 on the road.  Outside of Region 8, Vidalia (16-4) is this week’s departure. The Indians were without leading scorer Josiah Jones (17 ppg) due to an ankle injury and Dresden Clark (11.5 ppg) due to strep throat in their 58-34 loss to Bacon County. No. 9 Bryan County slides in to replace them after a 3-0 week. The Redskins get their second crack at Vidalia on Friday after losing their first meeting 60-49.
