An eventful week brings us 11 new teams breaking into the Top 10 across eight classifications.

There is significant movement near the top of Class 7A as No. 2 North Forsyth shoots up three spots, unable to be held back any longer. The Raiders now have four Top 10 wins, their latest a statement against Norcross (4-1) 59-40, dropping the Lady Blue from the poll. Anna Gliatta led the way with 16 points while Ali Jones and Meredith Franklin scored 11 apiece. No. 3 Brookwood slides a spot after a 44-43 loss at Class 6A No. 7 Rockdale County, splitting the season series. No. 4 Grayson took overtime to outlast Marietta 73-67. No. 5 Archer is down two places following a 49-38 loss to Class A-Private No. 3 Mt. Paran at the Sandy’s Spiel Showcase. Taniya McGowan had 14 points, 6 rebounds, 4 steals and 2 blocks in the defeat. No. 6 Cherokee beat Class 6A No. 9 Sequoyah for the second time this season, 57-50, riding Toni Warren to 18 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. No. 8 Woodstock holds tight following a 56-47 loss to Class A-Private No. 1 Holy Innocents’ while No. 9 West Forsyth moves up after wins over Gainesville (63-48) and Creekview (65-48). No. 10 Harrison debuts after a strong week. The Hoyas beat a pair of unbeatens in Calhoun (80-36) and Villa Rica (75-45) with a win over Preseason ranked Rome 49-42 sandwiched in between. Anna Gernatt led Harrison with 23 points against Calhoun and 26 vs. Villa Rica.

The race to the top of Class 6A remains tight. No. 1 Kell’s 64-53 win over Class A-Private No. 2 St. Francis at the Tournament of Champions affords them another week atop the poll. Crystal Henderson recorded 22 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. No. 2 River Ridge blasted a shorthanded Johns Creek 74-22 before racing past Newton 72-47 at the Sandy’s Spiel Showcase, Mataya Gayle tallying 17 points, 4 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals while Allie Sweet double-doubled again with 14 points and 14 rebounds. No. 4 Carrollton took overtime to withstand East Coweta, 76-70. No. 6 Langston Hughes escaped the Indians as well, 57-53. No. 8 Statesboro pounded Class 3A No. 6 Tattnall County 64-32 but were jumped by No. 7 Rockdale County following their 44-43 win over Class 7A No. 3 Brookwood as Danielle Carnegie piled in 20 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals. No. 9 Sequoyah lost to Class 7A No. 6 Cherokee again, 57-50. Grovetown (4-1) departs from the poll with a 52-43 loss at South Carolina powerhouse North Augusta. No. 10 Habersham Central sneaks in. After opening the season with a 61-49 loss to Class 2A No. 10 Union County, the Raiders have scored three wins against teams that have spent time in the Top 10 highlighted by a 46-38 win over Class 2A No. 4 Rabun County in the Piedmont Invitational Championship. 5-foot-10 sophomore Kyia Barrett leads Habersham Central in scoring at 11.3 points per game.

The Top 4 in Class 5A is untouched but below there is plenty of movement. No. 5 Union Grove lost 67-53 at Class 4A No. 1 Luella, but their road wins over Jones County (48-31) and Stockbridge (53-47) earlier in the week push the Wolverines up two spots. No. 6 Greenbrier is down a spot after losing 49-47 to Class 2A No. 2 Josey. No. 7 Northside-Columbus becomes the third team from Region 2 to crack the Top 10, bursting into the poll following a 68-57 win at No. 8 McIntosh, dropping the Chiefs two places. Mya Giles averaged 20 points over the weekend in Patriot wins over McIntosh and Starr’s Mill (71-57). No. 10 Hiram is back in the rankings. At full strength, the Hornets have only lost to Hillgrove in their season opener. Hiram earned impressive wins over North Paulding 41-34 and New Manchester (2-4) 40-31, dropping the Jaguars out of the rankings. Erial Owens scored 15 points while battling Auburn-signee Kharyssa Richardson. Owens is averaging 14.9 points, 7.1 rebounds, 1.6 steals and 1.3 blocks. Following New Manchester out is St. Pius X (2-4) a season-ending injury zapped the Golden Lions of their top post scorer which helped lead to a 44-43 loss at Decatur.

Class 4A No. 1 Luella defeated Class 5A No. 5 Union Grove 67-53. Ariana Dyson double-doubled with 20 points and 11 rebounds while Jacksonville State-signee Evelina Davlakou netted 20 points. No. 2 Jefferson pulled away from Loganville 55-42, Natalia Bolden pouring in 26 points. No. 5 Troup County secured their first win of the season, beating Harris County 57-45 on the road. No. 9 North Oconee survived an upset-minded Monroe Area 52-49 after losing Piedmont-signee Maddy Dickens early in the first quarter. Aiyanna Peavy finished with 19 points and 9 rebounds while Annika Bonds stepped up with 15 points and 5 rebounds. Out of the Top 10 is Pickens (3-2). The Dragonettes were dumped by Calhoun 61-46. Sliding into the final spot is No. 10 Chestatee, the third team from Region 8. The War Eagles have been idle since Thanksgiving week, but their season-opening drubbing of Class 3A No. 9 North Hall 70-47 is enough to get the nod. Sophomore Riley Black leads the young group in scoring at 16.5 points per game.

The General is back in Class 3A. David Dowse has returned to the sidelines to lead No. 1 Lumpkin County. The Indians didn’t miss a beat, smashing Class 2A No. 10 Union County 84-49 in his return. No. 2 GAC lost 46-33 at Class A-Private No. 6 Hebron Christian, but retain their ranking. No. 3 Pierce County continues to impress down in Blackshear. The Bears won 48-43 at Bradwell Institute and have now beaten one 7A school, two 6A schools and one 5A school. Natalie Herrin has scored 30 points twice already. No. 4 Cross Creek blew out last week’s Class 2A No. 9 Laney 60-40. No. 5 Redan held off Druid Hills 54-52. No. 6 Tattnall County suffered a 64-32 loss to Class 6A No. 8 Statesboro while No. 7 Beach was trounced by Class A-Private No. 7 Calvary Day 73-38, but both maintain their positions due to strength of schedule. Murray County (4-1) and Central-Macon (3-1) fall out after a week. The Indians were bounced by No. 10 Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe 60-55, the Warriors replacing them in the poll. Christina Collins scored 20 points, Angel Simmons had 17 and freshman Christen Collins netted 13 in the win. The Warriors are 5-0 after finishing 0-19 last season. Central-Macon lost 45-34 to Sumter County. No. 9 North Hall has hit their stride and enter the Top 10 after signature wins over Class 2A No. 10 Union County (78-49) and East Hall (47-45). Kristina Peach poured in 26 points against Union County while Rylee McCall added 18.

The rematch of last year’s Elite Eight showdown between Class 2A No. 1 Elbert County and No. 2 Josey did not disappoint. It went down to the wire again, this time the Blue Devils coming away with a 48-45 victory after losing 46-45 last season. Elbert County got 19 points from Niya Moon and 12 from Aaniyah Allen while Josey saw Aqoyas Cody score 14. Prior to their loss, Josey went on the road to beat Class 5A No. 6 Greenbrier 49-47 with Cody and Arieonna Booker scoring 11 apiece. No. 3 Fannin County suffered a 58-48 loss at perennial power Murphy, NC while No. 4 Rabun County breezed by Franklin, NC 72-31 and Stephens County 66-20. No. 5 Heard County jumps idle No. 6 Washington County after wins over Handley, AL (56-49) and Starr’s Mill (45-42). Sophomore Jayden Boykin dumped in 28 points against Starr’s Mill. No. 7 Lamar County returned to action with wins over Greenville (73-44), Social Circle (66-47) and Upson-Lee (71-35). No. 10 Union County had a rough week, dropping three spots after getting drilled by Class 3A No. 9 North Hall (78-49) and Class 3A No. 1 Lumpkin County (84-49). The Panthers did rebound however with a 75-66 win at White County to stay in the rankings. Out of the poll are Laney (0-3) and Woodville-Tompkins (3-4). The Wildcats are off to their worst start in decades, blown out twice by Class 3A No. 4 Cross Creek 60-40 and North Augusta, SC 54-28. Woodville-Tompkins’ tough schedule has caught up to them, a 72-30 loss to Brunswick knocking the Wolverines out. No. 8 Banks County cracks the Top 10 for the first time. The Leopards earned wins over Cherokee Bluff (56-48), last week’s Class A-Public No. 8 Commerce (58-23) and Madison County (65-46). Banks County opened the season with a 47-45 win in overtime over East Hall and their only losses have come against ranked opponents in Class 6A No. 10 Habersham Central (46-44) and Class 7A No. 9 West Forsyth (59-46). 6-foot junior Kamryn Grier is a monster inside averaging 18.4 points and 14.6 rebounds. No. 9 Callaway resurfaces after getting their season started with wins over Columbus 79-23 and Spencer 62-48. Sophomore Jazmin Thornton recorded 18 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists, 5 steals and 2 blocks against Columbus.

No. 1 Holy Innocents’ continues to separate themselves from the rest of Class A-Private. The Golden Bears drilled Hillgrove 75-33 behind Ciara Alexander’s 18 points, 8 rebounds and 4 blocks before winning at Class 7A No. 8 Woodstock 56-47. No. 2 St. Francis climbs a spot after beating No. 3 Mt. Paran 57-54 in overtime. The Knights closed the week with a loss to Class 6A No. 1 Kell 64-53 at Tournament of Champions while the Eagles bounced back at the Sandy’s Spiel Showcase beating last week’s Class 7A No. 3 Archer 49-38 as Georgia Tech-signee Kara Dunn totaled 18 points, 12 rebounds, 3 assists, 5 steals and 1 block. No. 6 Hebron Christian is threatening to crack the Top 5 after scoring wins over Class 3A No. 2 GAC (46-33) and Woodland-Stockbridge (78-31). No. 7 Calvary Day is nearing their ceiling after crushing Class 3A No. 7 Beach 73-38, the second public school power the Cavaliers have drilled, cementing themselves currently as the best team in Savannah. Mahkayla Premo finished with 28 points and 11 steals while Hannah Cail scored 17 points and Destini Gooddine netted 12. The Cavaliers face a terrific test this Saturday at the CTC Classic against Class 2A No. 1 Elbert County at Grayson High School.

There’s some shifting in Class A-Public near the bottom of the poll. Sophomore Marley Bell posted 22 points, 12 rebounds, 3 assists, 9 steals and 2 blocks as No. 1 Montgomery County handled Vidalia 64-50 while No. 2 Mt. Zion-Carrollton fell 60-59 to Handley, AL squandering a 28-point outburst from Zoey Holland. No. 4 Pelham opened the season with a 45-24 over Cairo. No. 5 Central-Talbotton is up a spot with a 64-23 win over Marion County while No. 6 Lake Oconee Academy slides following a 42-34 rematch loss at Stratford Academy. No. 7 Trion got 9 points from Aubree Weaver to survive Dade County 38-37. No. 9 Dublin lost 39-29 to West Laurens after beating East Laurens 56-31. Commerce (0-3) and Telfair County (0-2) exit. Commerce was beat 58-23 by Class 2A No. 8 Banks County while Telfair County lost to Bleckley County (46-43) and Dodge County (69-30). No. 8 Screven County debuts following wins against Bryan County 42-34 and Portal 49-20. No. 10 Taylor County claims the final spot after dispatching of Macon County 51-20.
