Week 1 of the GHSA season is in the books, gifting us a handful of Top 10 showdowns across multiple classifications and already affording us a new number one team in Class 7A. Georgia’s Elite 8 Tip-Off Classic, SWD Showdown IX, Hoops 4 Hunger, Double Trouble Invitational and North Georgia Showcase highlighted the opening weekend. One take away from the first two days of the season is this: You better practice your free throws. With the elimination of the one-and-one bonus and the implementation of an automatic two free throws on the fifth team foul, games have quickly turned into free throw shooting contests and have lengthened the duration of each game by slowing the pace. So far, the experimentation of the new foul rules have not earned rave reviews from coaches or those in the stands. Continue reading Week 1 GHSA Boys Basketball State Rankings

The end of the seven-classification era is nearly upon us, which means it will be even harder to win a state title next year but in the present day, there are still banners to be hung. This season is a little hazier than others as a plethora of top players across the state are committed as big time football prospects leaving uncertainty as to who will suit up on the hardwood for their final season and who will be early enrolling, leaving massive voids for their respective schools to fill.
