Week 1 has come and gone, resulting in four classifications seeing changes in the Top 10. Already two new number one teams have usurped the throne in their respective class.

No. 2 Norcross slips out of the top spot in Class 6A. The Lady Blue were beat up by Private No. 4 St. Francis at the Double Trouble Invitational 65-47 and although it isn’t a strike against them in the rankings or regular season, Norcross also lost to 4A No. 2 Creekside in a scrimmage. No. 3 North Forsyth edged No. 7 Hillgrove 59-56 at the Hawks’ Forever 14 Showcase as Chattanooga-commit London Weaver scored 19 points. No. 5 Cherokee beat Grayson 68-62 at the Forever 14 Showcase as South Florida lacrosse-commit Alex Whitecliffe scored 18 points and Madison Moody netted 17. No. 10 Lambert received 26 points from Kenzie Weyer in a 58-42 victory against Collins Hill.

Class 5A saw some big Top 10 clashes in Week 1. No. 2 Langston Hughes steamrolled Class 2A No. 2 Hardaway 81-47 at Hoops4Hunger. No. 3 Woodward Academy swaps spots with No. 4 Morrow, holding off the Mustangs 61-57 at Hoops4Hunger after maintaining a double-digit lead for a portion of the game. Lauryn Cooper collected 16 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals in the win. No. 7 Creekview defeated North Gwinnett 57-33 at the Roger Slaton Tip-Off Classic, Anderson-commit Amilya Taft finishing with 13 points, 12 rebounds and 3 blocks. No. 8 Tri-Cities rises two spots with a 57-46 win over Marietta at Hoops4Hunger.

Class 4A No. 3 Maynard Jackson suffered a 54-48 loss to Private No. 3 Mt. Paran at the Blockbuster Classic but played without All-State guard Kennedie Cooper. No. 4 Midtown handled Carver-Atlanta 60-37 as Sinclair Richman led with 21 points. No. 6 North Oconee won at Stephenson in the Battle on the Mountain 57-41, Laura Frances Willis piling in 23 points, 3 rebounds, 8 assists and 5 steals. No. 8 Kell rises a position with a 76-45 romp of Wheeler at Hoops4Hunger, Kennedy Deese posting 22 points, 7 rebounds, 3 steals and 3 blocks.

In Class 3A, No. 1 Baldwin pummeled No. 2 Fayette County at Hoops4Hunger 63-42 to take over the top spot in the state. Kassidy Neal dominated with 25 points, 15 rebounds and 3 steals while Janaye Walker hung 17 points, 21 rebounds and 2 assists. Journy Scott was a bright spot for the Tigers with 16 points, 4 rebounds and 4 steals. No. 9 Monroe defeated Dougherty 61-50 getting a career-high from Kie’Aundria Acree as she exploded for 38 points, 15 rebounds, 7 assists and 6 blocks.

There are no changes in Class 2A although No. 2 Hardaway was blitzed by Class 5A No. 2 Langston Hughes 81-47 at Hoops4Hunger. No. 7 Morgan County blew out Habersham Central 66-36 at The Opener behind Cydney Burke’s 19 points. No. 9 Columbia lost in overtime at Hoops4Hunger to Woodland-Stockbridge 56-55.

Only No. 7 Banks County was in action in Class A D-I, beating Winder-Barrow 62-32 at The Opener as Reese Murphy provided 15 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists.

No one in Class A D-II played in Week 1.

Class 3A-1A Private remains the same as all four teams that played won. No. 3 Mt. Paran defeated Class 4A No. 3 Maynard Jackson 54-48 at the Blockbuster Classic as Michigan-commit Jessica Fields posted 17 points, 15 rebounds and 3 blocks. No. 4 St. Francis thumped Preseason Class 6A No. 1 Norcross 65-47 at the Double Trouble Invitational, Giaunni Rogers scoring 27 points while Camryn Golston racked up 11 points, 7 assists and 8 steals. No. 6 Greenforest rolled past Spalding at Hoops4Hunger while No. 9 Whitefield Academy scored a 59-39 win at Coretta Scott King, Emahni Chambliss with 20 points, 5 rebounds and 4 steals, freshman Amelia Newman corralling 19 points, 10 rebounds, 9 assists and 7 steals and freshman Hailey Houlder chipping in 12 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 6 steals.
