With region tournaments nearing, three classifications feature no changes to their respective polls. Across the eight different Top 10s, only five new teams break into the rankings with just one being a debutant.
There were some big results in Class 6A as No. 1 North Paulding lost at No. 6 Marietta 50-48, the Blue Devils climbing two spots as Leah DeWitt scored 24 points in the win. North Paulding rebounded with a 56-36 win at Etowah to close the week. In the hotly contested Region 4, No. 2 Newton won at South Gwinnett 53-47 while No. 7 Archer swept Grayson (15-5) 54-46 to force the Rams out of the Top 10. Entering the rankings for the first time this season is No. 10 Lowndes. The Vikettes made a statement in Region 1, crushing Colquitt County 54-24 before going on the road to drill rival Valdosta 72-34 as Laila Foster posted 26 points and 12 rebounds.
Class 5A sees some shuffling around but at the top No. 1 River Ridge maintains their position with a 55-46 win against Pope, Samford-signee Makayla Roberson netting 24 points. No. 2 Milton defeated Lanier 59-43 while No. 5 Creekview topped No. 7 Sequoyah 53-41 but drops two spots with a 51-43 loss at Sprayberry. No. 8 Morrow is back in the rankings for the first time since Week 5 as the Mustangs defeated No. 9 Langston Hughes 54-47. Making way for Morrow is Coffee (20-2) who drops out albeit on a 17-game winning streak. No. 10 Brunswick survives the number crunch after beating Glynn Academy 66-55. The Lady Pirates also hold wins over the two teams that beat Coffee this year, Lowndes 59-42 and sweeping Camden County 54-53 and 58-46 opposed to Coffee losing 44-42 to Lowndes and 50-48 to Camden County.
There are no changes in Class 4A. No. 4 Creekside squeaked out a 65-61 win at Pace Academy behind Maliha Harris’ 21 points. No. 1 Marist won at rival St. Pius X 58-40 while No. 7 Starr’s Mill completed a season sweep of their lone competition in Region 3, winning at Harris County 55-40 as Lindsey Kopacek recorded 18 points, 17 rebounds and 3 blocks.
Class 3A holds firm with no movement. No. 2 Sandy Creek smashed Private No. 9 Trinity Christian 73-29. No. 3 Oconee County defeated Jefferson 58-42. No. 7 Heritage-Catoosa beat LaFayette 41-32 while No. 9 Gilmer crushed the Ramblers 67-28.
In Class 2A, No. 1 Josey walloped No. 9 Laney on the road 83-57. No. 4 Murray County is up a spot with a 49-43 win over No. 6 Union County as Blaklee Ledford scored 18 points. The Lady Panthers also lost to Ringgold 51-45. No. 5 Westside-Macon climbs four spots after completing a season sweep of No. 8 Morgan County who tumbles four spaces with a 59-41 loss in Macon.
The competitive Class A D-I saw No. 1 Putnam County back up their ranking, defeating No. 4 Lamar County 70-56 to knock the Trojans down a peg as freshman Jaydah Baker dumped in 24 points. No. 3 Bremen survived Temple 35-32 while No. 5 Heard County did the same, winning 50-44 at Temple. No. 6 Bacon County escaped Fitzgerald with a 52-51 win. No. 7 Rabun County led wire-to-wire at Banks County (13-8) to score a 63-48 win, dropping the Leopards from the poll in the process. Freshman Millie Southards went for 19 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Armuchee (12-7) exits the Top 10 riding a three-game losing streak, falling at Private No. 10 Christian Heritage 57-54 and at returnee No. 9 Model 58-42. No. 10 East Laurens is also back in the rankings after a three-week hiatus, scoring a signature 53-45 win at Washington County.
Class A D-II is shifting below No. 1 Wilcox County who continues to score blowout wins but faces a rematch with No. 4 Macon County this Tuesday after opening the season with a 48-42 win in Montezuma. The Bulldogs are down two spots heading into the signature showdown however, suffering just their second loss of the season beat by No. 9 Taylor County 60-43, the Vikings back in the Top 10 since last appearing in Week 8. Idle Warren County (12-5) drops out to make room for Taylor County in the poll.
Class 3A-1A Private is rock solid with no movement and no signs of any outsiders cracking the Top 10 anytime soon. No. 4 Galloway won at No. 5 Whitefield Academy 75-69 before the Wolfpack bounced back with a 71-50 win over No. 8 Mt. Paran. No. 7 Athens Academy edged Commerce 52-47. No. 9 Trinity Christian was hammered by Class 3A No. 2 Sandy Creek 73-29. No. 10 Christian Heritage picked up a 57-54 win over last week’s Class A D-I No. 10 Armuchee, Olivia Perry unleashing 22 points.
