With Week 2 in the books, there is already plenty of movement across multiple classifications. The Jared Cook Classic, OTR Invitational, Hypesouth Hardwood Invitational, Hard in the Paint and Holiday Hoopsgiving pitted ranked opponents against one another.

Eight out of last week’s Top 10 teams in Class 7A suffered a loss, but No. 1 Grayson and No. 2 Pebblebrook remain atop the poll. The Rams knocked off No. 9 North Gwinnett 68-65 and Class 3A No. 1 Sandy Creek 66-54 before splitting at Holiday Hoopsgiving. Grayson lost in overtime to nationally ranked Wasatch Academy, UT 75-72, forcing the extra period after leading for just 1:22 the entire game. Charleston Southern-signee 6-foot-8 Taje Kelly has been a revelation so far this season. He posted 25 points and 8 rebounds in the loss and followed up with 15 points and 6 rebounds in a 73-48 win over Solid Rock Academy at Hard in the Paint. Pebblebrook scored wins over last week’s No. 8 Newton 74-53 and Carmel Christian, NC 81-66 before dropping to Wasatch Academy 71-62 at Holiday Hoopsgiving. In their win over Carmel Christian, South Alabama-signee Tyler Shirley netted 21 points while Georgia State-bound guard Danny Stubbs had 20 points off the bench. Stubbs had an encore performance of 17 points against Wasatch before fouling out. No. 3 Milton is up two spots after handling their business in impressive fashion at Holiday Hoopsgiving. Ohio State-commit Bruce Thornton powered the Eagles to a 69-53 win over Class A-Private No. 2 Greenforest with 27 points and 9 rebounds before Kanaan Carlyle handled the load with 17 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals in a near wire-to-wire 62-54 victory over No. 4 Berkmar, who had beaten No. 8 Cherokee 73-60 at the Jared Cook Classic earlier in the week as Discovery transfer Jameel Rideout made an immediate impact with 24 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. No. 5 McEachern couldn’t keep their momentum from last week’s 1-point win over Milton, going 0-2 at Hoopsgiving losing 78-57 to Class 3A No. 1 Sandy Creek and 79-68 to Class 6A No. 1 Wheeler to fall two spots. No. 6 Norcross remains unblemished but doesn’t move up due to strength of schedule. They pounded a bad West Nassau, FL team 77-48 before dispatching of a rebuilding Westlake group 64-48 at Hoopsgiving. Newton (1-3) and Etowah (2-1) drop from the poll. The Rams have played a tough schedule, losing to No. 9 North Gwinnett 74-62 and to No. 2 Pebblebrook by 19. Etowah grinded out a tough 56-49 win over Centennial before flopping 59-56 against Marietta. Into the poll is No. 7 Denmark. The Danes squeezed out a 55-54 win over No. 8 Cherokee at the Jared Cook Classic behind Alabama-Huntsville-signee Sutton Smith’s 21 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists. Denmark would finish the week with wins over Duluth (70-51) and Paulding County (59-57). Also debuting is No. 10 Archer. The Tigers have picked up where they left off last season, albeit a very different cast. Coach Joel Lecoeuvre’s unselfish play stood out in an 80-62 win over Lambert at the Jared Cook Classic. The Tigers assisted on 24 of their 33 made baskets with Christian Drummer leading the way with 20 points and 7 rebounds.

No. 1 Wheeler opened up their title defense down in Class 6A with a 79-68 win over Class 7A No. 5 McEachern. Five players scored in double figures led by Max Harris’ 19 and Dayton-signee Kaleb Washington’s 15 points and 9 rebounds. There’s trouble a-brewing elsewhere in Marietta as No. 2 Kell’s Scoot Henderson has taken his game to the next level. He poured in 30 points in an embarrassing 106-44 thrashing of Alabama-bound guard JD Davison and overmatched Calhoun County, AL at Hoopsgiving before rallying from down 17 in the second half to stun Mikey Williams and former teammate Joyful Hawkins of Lake Norman Christian, NC, 88-77 as Henderson dumped in 36 points (15-25 FG), 2 rebounds, 7 assists, 2 steals and only 1 turnover. Just two games into the season, Henderson looks like an early front runner for Sandy’s Spiel Mr. Basketball. He gets enough support from Jaylen Harris, Najhae Colon, Aaron Harris, Ramir Chester and PJ Johnson to form a tenacious unit that gets after it defensively, making up for their lack of impactful size. Elsewhere, No. 3 Chattahoochee, the defending state champs in 6A, shoot up six spots following wins over No. 4 Lanier (78-75) and Class A-Private No. 3 Mt. Pisgah (60-54). Coming off an 80-76 win over Class A-Private No. 1 St. Francis behind Makai Vassell (22), Iajah Phillips (18) and Justin Birch (17) at the Jared Cook Classic, the Longhorns couldn’t keep pace with the Cougars as AJ White scored 22 points followed by 16 from Tomiwa Adetosoye and 15 from Cameron James. Chattahoochee then held off Mt. Pisgah at Hoopsgiving behind White’s 28 points. No. 5 Heritage-Conyers went 3-0, winning the GetMickey Raider Classic Championship 93-77 over South Gwinnett and then finishing the week with an 82-69 win over Class 5A No. 6 Warner Robins in overtime at the Hypesouth Hardwood Invitational. The Patriots outscored the Demons 13-0 in the extra frame as Ole Miss-signee James White piled in 35 points and Elon-signee RJ Noord tacked on 23 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals. The Patriots have a big test ahead at the CTC Classic on December 5 at Cass vs. Class 7A No. 8 Cherokee. Both Allatoona (1-1) and South Cobb (1-2) depart from the Top 10. The Buccaneers fell 47-46 to Centennial after beating Class 5A No. 8 Cass 59-50 at the Wolverine Thanksgiving Classic. South Cobb, who was without DaQuan Riggins, lost to Peachtree Ridge 61-58 at the Jared Cook Classic before falling to debutant No. 7 Shiloh 59-52 at Holiday Hoopsgiving. The Generals are now 3-0 without 6-foot-6 All-State forward Jordan Mitchell and have found ways to win close games behind Oklahoma transfer Devon Barnes. The 6-foot guard ate up South Cobb with 30 points (10-14 FG) and then spurred a comeback from down 18 points against Class 2A No. 5 Lovett, netting 22 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals in a 65-63 win at Hoopsgiving, withstanding Georgetown’s Ryan Mutombo’s 33 points and 9 rebounds. Also in the poll is No. 9 Winder-Barrow, the fourth team from Region 8, joining No. 4 Lanier, No. 7 Shiloh and No. 8 Buford who is down four spots after a 71-69 loss on their home floor at the North Georgia Showcase to newly ranked Class 2A No. 9 Banks County. The Bulldoggs topped Class A-Private No. 9 Hebron Christian 70-65 in the Tabo’s TOC Championship and later knocked off Peachtree Ridge 72-67 at the North Georgia Showcase behind 6-foot-9 Wyatt Fricks’ 22 points and 9 rebounds, Tim Loud’s 22 points and 8 rebounds and 6-foot-11 Isaiah Nelson-Ododa’s 9 points, 8 rebounds and 4 blocks. Ahmad Scott added 10 points and 6 assists. Between Fricks and Nelson-Ododa, Coach Travis McDaniel has an immensely long and skilled front court that can score inside and out. The emergence of 6-foot-1 junior Tim Loud in the backcourt has balanced the offense.

No. 1 Tri-Cities fell 84-77 to Class A-Private No. 2 Greenforest at the OTR Invitational, but the Bulldogs cling onto the top spot in Class 5A. No. 2 St. Pius X picked up a 70-60 win over Class 2A No. 5 Lovett behind Rollins-signee Brookes Kahlert’s 23 points and Trey Acklin’s 18. Ravaged by quarantine, with almost their entire roster gone, No. 5 Eagle’s Landing still managed to pound Meadowcreek 70-44 at Hoopsgiving. The Eagles held the Mustangs to 29.5% shooting and forced 19 turnovers. Sophomore David Thomas led the way with 20 points, 6 rebounds and 5 steals. Jordan Fordyze stepped up with 13 points and 8 rebounds while Jayden Jackson added 12 points and 6 rebounds. No. 6 Warner Robins ran out of gas in overtime against Class 6A No. 5 Heritage-Conyers falling 82-69 at the Hypesouth Hardwood Invitational. 6-foot-5 senior Greg Jones was a monster inside with 29 points and 9 rebounds. Freshman Camryn Perkins showed great poise with 10 points, 5 assists and 3 steals. No. 7 Woodland-Stockbridge climbs three spots after a 3-0 week highlighted by a 51-41 win over River Ridge. 6-foot junior Gregory Kearney leads the Wolfpack in scoring at 16.8 points per game. Chapel Hill (0-2) exits the Top 10 after two losses against Top 10 teams. They were beaten by Class 7A No. 2 Pebblebrook 82-66 on November 20 and then fell 72-50 at Class 6A No. 6 Douglas County. Young No. 10 Forest Park gets their first crack at the Top 10 after a 68-61 win over Maynard Jackson. Sophomore Jaquez Akins had 24 points while 6-foot-7 junior Daniel Pounds added 21.

Dougherty has been the measuring stick team in Class 4A. The Trojans lost 76-61 to No. 2 Spencer and 62-46 to No. 3 Westover opening week. At the Hypesouth Hardwood Invitational, No. 8 Westside-Macon got to see where they stand. The Seminoles led 29-11 and were about to blow past the Trojans before Bakari Bryant’s resilient group broke off a 20-2 run and eventually won 76-71 in overtime. Florida-signee Kowacie Reeves Jr.’s 27 points and 7 rebounds weren’t enough as decision making from a young backcourt hurt the Seminoles down the stretch. Dougherty received 20 points from Elijah West while Jadyn Shider posted 18 points and 8 rebounds before fouling out. In the loss, Shannon Fountain had 18 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 7 steals while Daveon Henderson added 12 points and 7 rebounds. Even with the loss, Westside-Macon holds firm at No. 8 after No. 9 Monroe fell 53-46 to Dutchtown, failing to jump the Seminoles. No. 2 Spencer led by 19 points heading into the fourth quarter before settling for a 67-58 win over Lovejoy. No. 3 Westover is up two spots after a 61-57 win over Northside-Warner Robins at Hypesouth. 6-foot-9 Isaac Abidde was terrific, hitting 3 threes and finishing with 26 points, 11 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal and 1 block. Bam Wingfield added 15 points. No. 5 Fayette County drops one spot after losses to Meadowcreek (65-58) and Class 3A No. 5 Salem (72-68). In the loss to Salem at Holiday Hoopsgiving, 6-foot-7 junior Kaleb Banks went off for 38 points (15-19 FG) and 10 rebounds. No. 7 Jenkins fell to Class 3A No. 3 Johnson-Savannah 62-51 while Mays (1-1) drops from the rankings after a 67-51 loss at Walnut Grove. Sneaking into the Top 10 is No. 10 Luella. Winners of just 10 games a season ago, the young Lions are already almost halfway there after beating Dacula in the Dacula TOC Championship 50-42. Sophomore Kory Mincy has been playing at a high level, leading the Lions in scoring.

No. 1 Sandy Creek bounced back from a 66-54 loss to Class 7A No. 1 Grayson, drilling Class 7A No. 5 McEachern 78-57 at Holiday Hoopsgiving to represent Class 3A. 6-foot-10 Auburn-signee Jabari Smith II was unstoppable with 26 points (10-16 FG), 9 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals, 1 block and only 1 turnover. Sophomore Victor Newsom scored 17 points and Washington State-signee Myles Rice had 14 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals. No. 3 Johnson-Savannah handled Class 4A No. 7 Jenkins 62-51. Emondre Bowles posted 20 points, 4 rebounds and 6 assists while Antonio Baker Jr. continued his hot play with 17 points. JaHeim Robinson made an impact inside with 16 points and 15 rebounds. No. 4 Hart County picked up wins over North Hall (77-30) and Collins Hill (82-62). Through three games, Emmanuel College-commit Shone Webb is averaging 28 points per game. No. 5 Salem beat Class 4A No. 5 Fayette County 72-68 at Hoopsgiving. Jarrod Taylor had 19 points, 8 rebounds and 4 steals while Avion Young double-doubled with 17 points and 10 rebounds and Javen Flowers-Smith netted 14 points. No. 6 Upson-Lee hangs onto their ranking but it might not be for long. The Knights advanced to the second round of the football state playoffs for the first time since 2005 meaning nearly their entire starting five and key bench players will miss at least another week of basketball. The Knights were drug by Northside-Warner Robins 58-33 and now play Class 6A No. 10 Richmond Hill at the CTC Classic on Saturday at Cass. While the Knights will likely sink in the rankings with another loss, don’t count them out in the long run. They can’t be judged until they get everyone off the football field including reigning Region Player of the Year Milique Smith. No. 10 Cross Creek is down two spots after beating Aiken, SC 65-49 and losing to River Bluff, SC 65-57. No. 8 GAC moves up thanks to a 62-52 win over Class A-Private No. 8 Trinity Christian. The Spartans struggled at Hoopsgiving, losing 61-46 to Class A-Private No. 1 St. Francis and 68-50 to Bishop Snyder, FL. No. 9 Monroe Area inches up one position, bouncing back from a season-opening 53-46 loss at Loganville to beat Walnut Grove (61-59) and Cedar Shoals (55-48).

In Class 2A, No. 1 Pace Academy got their first win in ho-hum fashion, beating Marist 58-38. No. 4 Thomasville trades places with No. 5 Lovett after the Bulldogs earned wins over Class A-Public No. 7 Lanier County (89-78) and Lowndes (61-53) at the Charles Cooper Invitational. Lovett blew an 18-point lead at Hoopsgiving to Class 6A No. 7 Shiloh, losing 65-63 as 22 turnovers plagued the Lions. Shiloh shot just 3-5 from the field in the fourth quarter but 12-15 from the line. No. 6 Butler handled McDonough 56-47 while No. 10 Vidalia loses ground after a 50-46 loss to Coffee at the STC Tip-Off Classic. Jeff Davis (1-1) exits after losing 69-60 to Fitzgerald and beating Citizens Christian Academy 49-34. Breaking into the poll is No. 9 Banks County who stunned last week’s Class 6A No. 4 Buford 71-69 at the Buford City Arena at the North Georgia Showcase. Pierce Martin went 6-11 from deep to finish with a game-high 25 points. Garrett Pressley recorded a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds while Clay Gosnell tallied 11 points and 12 assists in a program building win.

No. 1 St. Francis, No. 2 Greenforest and No. 3 Mt. Pisgah all suffered losses in Class A-Private but no one loses their position in the poll. The Knights lost 80-76 to Class 6A No. 4 Lanier at the Jared Cook Classic before beating Class 3A No. 8 GAC 61-46 at Hoopsgiving behind Alabama-signee Jusaun Holt’s 23 points, 12 rebounds, 3 assists, 5 steals and 3 blocks. Greenforest beat Class 5A No. 1 Tri-Cities 84-77 at the OTR Invitational but faltered at Hoopsgiving losing to Class 7A No. 3 Milton 69-53 and Carmel Christian, NC 72-54. Chase Tucker netted 19 points while IPFW-signee JoJo Peterson and MJ Winter scored 14 apiece in Mt. Pisgah’s 75-57 win over South Forsyth at the Jared Cook Classic before losing 60-54 to Class 6A No. 3 Chattahoochee at Hoopsgiving. No. 4 Providence Christian bounced back with a 68-63 win over Alexander getting a career day from 6-foot-8 junior Tony Carpio, who had 35 points, 11 rebounds and 2 blocks. COVID quarantine hit No. 10 Mt. Vernon Presbyterian hard in an ugly 94-64 loss to Calhoun County, AL, dropping the Mustangs two spots. First Presbyterian Day (0-0) drops out due to inactivity and the emergence of No. 9 Hebron Christian. The addition of 6-foot-9 freshman Jayden Williams changes the complexion of the Lions. He posted 26 points in a 64-62 win over TL Hanna, SC in the Tabo’s TOC semifinals. Hebron fell to Class 6A No. 9 Winder-Barrow 70-65 in the championship, getting strong play from Scott Gabel (22 points, 10 rebounds) and Sam Hutto (15 points, 7 rebounds).

Class A-Public should pick up over the next two weeks, but there were still some results in the Top 10. No. 3 Drew Charter hammered North Clayton 99-51. No. 4 Manchester beat Twiggs County. No. 7 Lanier County had a busy week going 2-2. They lost to Class 2A No. 4 Thomasville 89-78 and Class 7A Tift County 82-73 before beating Berrien 71-64 and Cook 59-32.  Wilkinson County (0-1) exits the poll following a 71-61 loss at newly ranked No. 10 Dublin. The Irish opened their season with an 80-43 beat down of East Laurens.
