Top-ranked teams have already been tested heading into Week 3 as three number ones lost this past week. A busy week of Thanksgiving Break basketball should lead to more mayhem in the polls.
Class 6A No. 1 Carrollton secured their first win of the season on the road defeating Cartersville 45-31. No. 4 North Paulding toppled last week’s Class 4A No. 1 Marist at the Hawks-Naismith Holiday Classic, leading for nearly 25 minutes and holding 15-point lead in the fourth quarter before settling with a 59-56 victory. Delaware-signee Ava Andrews posted 15 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, 5 steals and 2 blocks while freshman Kenzie Hinkson scored 13 points and Morgan Landrum double-doubled with 12 points and 12 rebounds. No. 5 Cherokee lost a shootout at Class 5A No. 1 River Ridge 83-71 before blasting last week’s Class 5A No. 7 Creekview 65-35 as Madison Moody poured in 20 points while South Florida lacrosse-signee Alex Whitecliffe collected 15 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. No. 7 Grayson rises three spots, beating last week’s Class 4A No. 9 Southwest DeKalb 60-36. Lowndes (2-1) and Hillgrove (0-3) tumble out of the rankings. The Vikettes lost 46-44 at Rickards, FL while the Hawks have played a juggernaut schedule, their most recent Top 5 losses coming against Class 3A-1A Private’s No. 4 Holy Innocents’ 65-37 and No. 1 Hebron Christian 69-40. No. 9 Archer resurfaces with a 4-0 week, highlighted by a 53-41 win against Mill Creek. No. 10 Etowah breaks into the Top 10 after beating last week’s Class 5A No. 10 Sequoyah 40-33 and rival Woodstock 60-44, sophomore Savannah Aparicio averaging 14.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists during the span.

The status of Abbey Bensman is in question however after hurting her hip against the Tigers.
There is a new number one in Class 4A after No. 3 Marist couldn’t rally from down 15 in the fourth quarter against Class 6A No. 4 North Paulding at the Hawks-Naismith Holiday Classic, losing 59-56 as Kate Harpring totaled 28 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals and 2 blocks. No. 3 White County narrowly holds onto their spot as a shorthanded No. 4 Oconee County outplayed the Warriors in Cleveland for three quarters until Piedmont-commit Kylie Watkins sparked a comeback, helping outscore Oconee County 16-4 in the fourth to win 41-38. Oconee County played without leading scorer Emmanuel-signee Julie Azeltine (17 ppg, 5 apg, 5 spg) who is still in a boot and saw Jill Daniel (13.3 ppg) unable to finish the game with a lower body injury. The Warriors climb two spots even with the loss, battling adversity earning a 38-34 win against last week’s Class 2A No. 7 Morgan County prior to their tilt against White County. No. 3 Dodge County lost 55-48 to Class 4A No. 9 Ware County at the Hugh McBride Tip-Off Classic. No. 5 Rabun County shoots up three spots after winning 52-51 at Lassiter, Emmanuel softball-signee Jacie McCall hitting a three with two seconds left to win it.
