Some classifications are starting to narrow while others are beginning to widen. A strong weekend of basketball was headlined by the Tournament of Champions and the On The Radar Hoops North Georgia Showcase. Ineligibility and injury are helping shape the rankings heading into Week 5.
A potential future Final Four showdown with state title implications took place at the Tournament of Champions as Class 6A No. 1 Grayson won at No. 2 Wheeler 77-68 as UGA-signee Jacob Wilkins piled in 23 points, 11 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals and 6 blocks while Cal State Fullerton-signee Kiwane Garris scored 20 points and Caleb Holt racked up 15 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals and 1 block. No. 3 Newton inches up a spot with a 55-50 win at No. 8 South Gwinnett who slips one position. No. 4 Walton is on the climb, beating Mays 69-59 at the Sandy’s Spiel Showdown after holding nearly a 30-point second half lead as Wofford football and baseball-signee Kaeden Gilstrap collected 16 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 steal. No. 5 Norcross is down two spots after edging Peachtree Ridge 64-58 and splitting at the Marshall County HoopFest, losing 66-56 to Huntsville, AL. The playing status of All-State guard Connor Teasley is in question after missing the last few games. No. 6 McEachern had a big week, moving up two spots with signature wins at No. 9 Pebblebrook 55-49 and drilling Class 4A No. 2 Kell 84-59 at the Tournament of Champions. No. 10 Lambert defeated Class 3A No. 6 Cherokee Bluff 78-67 at the On The Radar Hoops North Georgia Showcase as Samford football-signee Cameron Bland dropped in 40 points and became the all-time leading scorer in school history. The Longhorns received bad news earlier in the week however, losing 6-foot-7 senior Taj McLeod for the season after severe self-inflicted injuries to both arms against Forsyth Central.
In Class 5A, No. 1 Milton topped newly ranked No. 9 Seckinger 74-52. The Jaguars climb into the rankings by ending the week with a 74-55 win over Dacula.
