2024 is here and along with the new year are some important changes across multiple classifications. The She Got Game Classic provided Georgia with some tough competition from across borders.
In Class 7A, No. 1 Grayson continued to roll, taking down Blanche Ely, FL 62-55 at the She Got Game Classic. No. 2 Carrollton defeated Class 6A No. 5 New Manchester 57-46. No. 3 Buford rises a spot with an 84-70 win over Class 3A No. 4 Carver-Columbus. No. 4 North Paulding jumps two places with wins at Cartersville (60-50) and Cherokee (63-57). No. 5 Norcross slides two places as Mercer-signee Jania Akins is rumored to have sustained a serious knee injury that may cost her the rest of the season, sapping away from a defensive-minded group their best perimeter scorer. No. 6 Campbell fell to Palm Bay, FL 73-66 at She Got Game while No. 7 McEachern suffered a pair of losses, beat by Hazel Green, AL 50-40 and Winter Haven, FL 59-45. Milton (12-2) tumbles all the way out of the Top 5 to unranked after a shocking 78-45 loss at home to Lambert. No. 8 Mill Creek resurfaces in the poll with a pair of nice victories, winning at Central Gwinnett 43-34 and then toppling Hewitt-Trussville, AL 46-45 at She Got Game, Bella Ragone recording 23 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals while Kayla Harper netted the game-winning basket.
While there were plenty of substantial results, Class 6A only sees one change at the very bottom of the poll. At the top however, No. 1 River Ridge won 62-55 at Cherokee as Sophia Pearl posted 24 points. No. 2 Langston Hughes picked up a 67-42 win over Paulding County and has reportedly landed Cornelia Ellington from New Manchester, a high-scoring guard who has been working her way back from injury after starring at Decatur last season.
