MLK Day Showcases, increasingly important region matchups and injuries have shifted the Top 10 of multiple classifications with a plethora of games going into overtime.Class 7A has a new Top 3 for the first time since Week 3. No. 3 Walton screams up five spots after toppling No. 4 Wheeler 75-63 in Wofford-signee Luke Flynn’s return to action. The game-changing guard netted 27 points apiece in his first two games back from an ankle injury, the Raiders also blasting North Cobb 80-55. No. 8 Berkmar sinks five places, beaten 71-42 by Jackson-Reed, DC at The Dream Classic and upended by returnee No. 9 Peachtree Ridge 68-51, Connor Teasley leading the Lions with 20 points, 8 rebounds, 8 assists, 4 steals and 1 block. No. 2 McEachern survived at Milton at the Georgia Nike Elite Classic 63-62, Rutgers-signee Ace Bailey with 31 points and 13 rebounds. No. 1 Grayson beat Bishop McNamara, MD at The Dream Classic 78-55. No. 7 Buford won at No. 10 Dacula 59-47 to drop the Falcons a spot. Out of the Top 10 is Camden County (16-4). The Wildcats lost in overtime to Raines, FL 62-60 before losing to Andrew Jackson, FL 66-45.

In Class 6A, No. 3 St. Pius X battled back from a 15-point third quarter deficit to take a fourth quarter lead at home against Class 3A No. 1 Sandy Creek, but fell short 57-52 as Harris Reynolds led the Golden Lions with 14 points. No. 6 Jonesboro rises four spots after completing a season sweep at No. 7 Woodward Academy 75-73 in overtime to bounce back after a 71-60 loss to Westlake at the J-4 Sports MLK Classic. The Cardinals have now won six of their last seven meetings with Woodward Academy; Cortez Redding compiled 22 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists while Montez Redding netted 19 points and Tyson Miller had a career night with 16 points stepping up in place of Chris Jones who hurt his ankle. No. 8 Lee County lost 60-46 to Valdosta but earned three subsequent victories over Houston County (65-49), Northside-Warner Robins (71-37) and Thomas County Central (68-45) while No. 9 Pope fell 54-46 in overtime at Sprayberry to drop two spots. South Paulding (12-7) slips out of the Top 10 and sees their classification leading eight-game winning streak come to an end, upset in overtime by Douglas County on a buzzer-beating shot 49-47. No. 10 Glynn Academy resurfaces following a 3-0 week highlighted by a 72-62 win against Lakeside-Evans.

Four new teams invade the Class 5A Top 10, the state’s most parity laden classification. No. 1 Kell crushed Centennial 91-54 while No. 2 Tucker held off a feisty ML King 57-56. Below the top two, everything has changed. No. 6 Tri-Cities sinks three spots after losing Malique Johnson for likely the season due to injury, falling to Class 3A No. 2 Cedar Grove 49-35 at The Dream Challenge, 70-67 at Banneker on a last-second shot and 82-74 at No. 4 Chapel Hill, moving the Panthers up a slot. No. 5 Maynard Jackson rises after burying Mays (11-5) in the Region 5 standings and dropping the Raiders from the rankings with an 82-59 victory, Yusef Bowyer dropping 27 points while Donaven Thomas added 18, the tandem combining for nine threes. The bottom four teams from last week’s Top 10 all drop out with Decatur (13-5), Jones County (16-4) and Eagle’s Landing (12-7) all casualties. Decatur was blown out at The Dream Challenge by returnee No. 9 GAC 91-59. Jones County is bounced after losing 68-58 to Union Grove while Eagle’s Landing defeated Wilson Academy 61-57 at The Dream Challenge, but lost at No. 10 Warner Robins 62-57, the Demons surging back into the rankings for the first time since Week 2. Warner Robins is the hottest offensive team in Georgia averaging 95.7 points per game over their last six wins. This past week the Demons won at Union Grove 78-67 before closing the weekend with a 99-91 win over Veterans, Jay Johnson scoring 24 points to lead six players in double digits. No. 7 Winder-Barrow appears in the rankings after a lengthy five-week hiatus, entering with road wins at Heritage-Conyers 59-48 and Clarke Central 71-55. No. 8 Cambridge breaks through to make their debut. The Bears beat Centennial (64-58) and Creekview (48-40) this past week and have key wins on their resume highlighted with road victories against GAC 72-50 and Chattahoochee 55-54, who just defeated GAC 72-53. An early season 66-65 loss to Class 6A No. 4 Riverwood also bodes well for Cambridge’s legitimacy.

A new number one has emerged in Class 4A. No. 1 McDonough rises two spots with a 63-59 win at No. 2 Pace Academy, Keenan Gray recording 18 points and 8 assists followed by Zion Greene’s 17 points and Thad Fambro’s 11 points and 8 rebounds. No. 3 North Oconee rises a spot with a 64-55 win over Lambert and an 86-54 dissection of No. 7 Seckinger, securing revenge for their lone in-state loss at Seckinger back in December and dropping the Jaguars two spots in the poll, also losing to last week’s Class 6A No. 5 Woodward Academy at the MLK Day Classic 71-63. No. 4 Baldwin climbs two positions after a 4-0 week highlighted by a 76-67 win against North Augusta, SC at the Battle of the Border MLK Invitational Classic. No. 5 Holy Innocents’ slips three places following a 70-63 loss at Westminster. The magical season of No. 6 New Hampstead continues, the Phoenix rising up the rankings another spot after beating Coach Jeffrey Williams’ old program Lakeside-Evans 72-68 at the Battle of the Border before stunning Benedictine (8-4) on the road, rallying from down 13 points with 2:30 left to see the Phoenix steal an inbound pass and have Rashawn Truell drill a corner three at the buzzer to win 59-58 to take sole possession of first-place in Region 3. Replacing the Cadets in the poll is No. 10 Cherokee Bluff, the Bears beating Walnut Grove 58-56 behind Boston Kersh’ 30 points and 15 rebounds.

Class 3A No. 1 Sandy Creek survived a furious comeback attempt from Class 6A No. 3 St. Pius X at Mark Kelly Gymnasium 57-52, James Madison-signee Micah Smith pouring in 26 points, 14 rebounds and 7 blocks while Amari Brown collected 18 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals. No. 2 Cedar Grove beat last week’s Class 5A No. 3 Tri-Cities at The Dream Challenge 49-35 before securing a crucial 57-50 win at No. 5 Douglass as Manny Green posted 20 points and 12 rebounds to outduel Jacob Mickell’s 17 points and 6 rebounds. No. 3 Monroe moves up a spot, beating Class A D-II No. 3 Calhoun County in overtime 51-46 before losing at Westover 57-48 but bouncing back with a statement win at No. 10 Carver-Columbus 90-71 to push the Tigers down three places. No. 4 Hebron Christian won at No. 8 Monroe Area 67-63 but Blake Wilson’s 38 points, 11 rebounds and late game heroics to send the game to overtime weren’t enough for the Lions to avoid their first loss, upset at St. Andrew’s 72-69. No. 7 Cross Creek is down a spot with a 46-43 loss at Salem. No. 9 Richmond Academy helped themselves a ton in Region 4, scoring wins over Hephzibah 61-56 and Salem 56-54 to move into second-place at 3-2, trailing 4-1 Cross Creek.

No. 1 Thomson held serve in Class 2A, defeating No. 5 Butler 64-50. No. 3 Columbia falls a spot after a 63-57 loss to No. 4 ELCA, splitting the season series. No. 7 Toombs County climbs two places with a 78-54 win over Vidalia as Jesus Quintero exploded for 36 points on nine threes. No. 8 Spencer loses ground with a 78-77 loss at Cairo while South Atlanta (14-5) drops out completely after a 75-67 loss to Washington. No. 10 Banks County makes their debut riding an eight-game winning streak. The Leopards pummeled Providence Christian 80-47 behind Kolby Watson’s 25 points and have taken control of Region 8 at 5-0 heading into their showdown with No. 9 Union County who was inactive this past week. The Leopards have key wins over Class 4A No. 8 Madison County 59-58 in overtime and recently won at previously ranked Athens Academy 68-66.

Class A D-I saw No. 1 Mt. Vernon lose to Class A D-II No. 1 Greenforest at The Dream Challenge. No. 4 Woodville-Tompkins avenged an earlier loss to No. 5 Savannah, beating the Blue Jackets 62-61 on the road. No. 7 Mt. Bethel edged No. 8 St. Francis 61-47 to sink the Knights two positions. Bleckley County (14-5) exits the poll, defeated by No. 10 East Laurens 74-71 in double overtime, lifting the Falcons back into the rankings after three weeks out. Kenyon Williams recorded 21 points and 10 rebounds while Tylan and Kyan Snead scored 16 points apiece and Rashund Washington piled in 15 points, 14 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 blocks.

Class A D-II sees some movement with two new additions. No. 1 Greenforest defeated Class A D-I No. 1 Mt. Vernon 61-54 at The Dream Challenge, then left no doubt at No. 6 Christian Heritage winning 76-64 to drop the Lions three spots. No. 2 Portal held off No. 10 Jenkins County on the road 59-56. The War Eagles sink two spots, also losing to Burke County 48-46. No. 3 Calhoun County rises after a 51-46 overtime loss at Class 3A No. 3 Monroe, but three other easy wins. No. 5 Macon County holds tight to their position after losing 72-71 at Manchester. Clinch County (10-2) and Hawkinsville (8-6) are out of the rankings. The Panthers lost to Charlton County 65-60 while the Red Devils went 0-3, unable to survive a week in the poll, losing to Telfair County 70-64, No. 9 Treutlen 58-55 and Wilcox County 50-39. Treutlen closed their week with a 60-59 loss at Dooly County but maintain their position. No. 7 Lanier County debuts after a 46-39 win at Turner County, the Bulldogs riding a six-game winning streak. No. 8 Seminole County is back after missing a week in the Top 10, beating Randolph-Clay in overtime 60-59.
