Class AAAAAA

No. 3 North Forsyth 59, No. 7 Hillgrove 56: Chattanooga-commit London Weaver netted 19 points to lead the Raiders past Hillgrove at the Forever 14 Showcase. Gabbie Gliatta and freshman Leah Bryan scored 9 points each while Emma Rose and freshman Ana Anzola provided 7 points apiece.

No. 5 Cherokee 68, Grayson 62: South Florida lacrosse-commit Alex Whitecliffe scored 18 points while Madison Moody had 17 and freshman Ansley Dunn netted 10. Tatum Brown dumped in 29 points in the loss, followed by Zoie Lofton’s 18 and Tamera Rudolph’s 7.

No. 10 Lambert 58, Collins Hill 42: Kenzie Weyer erupted for 26 points and 5 rebounds. West Florida-commit Annarose Tyre posted 17 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists.

Campbell 71, Alexander 36: Saniya Binion hit four threes on her way to 29 points. Kennedy Lee had 16 points, 4 assists and 4 steals. New Manchester transfer Gabrielle Parish had 10 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals in her high school debut. Oglethorpe-commit Marlie Battle tallied 6 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. Alexander was powered by Nimah Ibidunni’s 23 points, 12 rebounds and 2 steals.

The 2024-25 GHSA Boys Basketball season is upon us. With the crunch of seven classifications into six, expect winning a state title to become even harder, unless you are a smaller public school. With private schools from Class 3A to 1A all vying for just one championship, tiny county schools have an opportunity to make history. Tracking the power ratings system will be interesting in Year 1 of implementation as gamesmanship as far as scheduling goes will come back into play for the smaller classifications over the next few years. Welcome to the 2024-25 GHSA Basketball season. The landscape across Georgia has changed as we are now consolidated down into six classifications and the long-awaited split of public and private schools is here for classes 3A-1A come playoff time now giving way for more deep state playoff runs to be had by small public schools, but with that also comes the algebraic equation of deciphering power rankings, a revamped version of the system brought back by the GHSA after straying from it years ago.
